two seasons. >> reporter: that's right, an emotional ceremony in nashville, tennessee as family, relatives, and friends said good-bye to mcnair. much of that love came from right here in baltimore, where he finished his career. ♪ don't give up, stay in the fight ♪ >> reporter: shed tears and shared love of a man credit weed a fighting spirit and big heart. an amotional memorial service for former nfl quarterback steve mcnair in nashville, tennessee. >> michelle, hold on to god. be strong, be of good courage. steve was a beautiful person. >> reporter: many spoke about mcnair's off the fieldwork. he donated thousands to children in need. in one case, children's who didn't have christmas presents. >> within 30 minutes, gift cards from wal-mart and target just started flowing throughout our gym for those 70 kids.

you should have saw those fourth quarter heroics come to life again, thanks to stee. >> reporter: ravens receiver derrick mason traveled to nashville to honor his friend who he played with in tennessee and baltimore. >> on behalf of the ravens organization, love and prayers to you. >> reporter: an investigation determine ad his 20-year-old girlfriend, sahel kazemi, killed mcnair, then shot and killed herself is. she was pulled over two days earlier and given a sobriety test. those who spoke focused not on how mcnair died but how he lived and touched the lives of others. >> steve was an amazing friend to all of us. he cared. he knew what friendship was. and he touched lives beyond our own imagination. >> reporter: steve mcnair is survived by his wife michelle

and his sons trenton and tyler. steve mcnair was 36 years old. back to you. >> thank you, kai. sports director mark viviano will have more in sports. a youth soccer coach in baltimore county is facing serious charges. police say he tried to have sex with a 14-year-old girl. 32-year-old charles friedel was arrested. the girl's father was alerted when he found inappropriate text messages on his daughter's phone. a major change in policy for the maryland transit administration. it's a no tolerance policy for drivers caught using cell phones. >> reporter: vic, during all of the recent incidents involving a metro or a light rail, the first question always is it was driver distracted by a cell phone, and starting tonight the

mta is starting a new policy regarding that technology. >> why couldn't the conductor have seen him. >> reporter: it's a question being asked by many have two teens were hit by a light rail train in lutherville. they were walking on a curve in the track sunday afternoon. the train operator never reported the accident. the family wants to know why. >> i want closures, i really do. these were my babies. >> reporter: area mass transportation is going through a lot of criticism. on june 22nd, nine people were killed when a d.c. metro train crashed into the back of another near the maryland border. the two teenage boys died sunday, july 5th in baltimore county. and most recently, video captured on a cell phone shows d.c. metro drivers sleeping or texting at the controls. even though the investigations have so far not linked the deaths to distractions like

texting, the mta is getting strict about technology. >> everybody needs to know if they step on a public transit vehicle that they're safe at all-time. >> reporter: under the new policy, all it takes is one time getting caught using a phone, ipodp or even ear buds, and the operator gets fired. the mta says this new policy is not in response to the lutherville crash on sunday. it will apply to train operators, but it also applies to mta bus drivers. >> i think it's a great idea, because i think they need to be very safe when they're driving them things. >> i disagree with using a cell phone, but i think they should have been given a warning before they are fired. >> reporter: and the lutherville case is still being investigated, and that driver has not been linked to techsing. if you see a driver texting or calling on their cell phone, you are asked to call mta. live from north baltimore, kelly mcpherson, eyewitness news. >> in baltimore county police still are investigating the

lutherville crash. that includes checking the driver's cell phone records. a drug suspect is under arrest tonight but only after hundreds of students were forced to evacuate a city elementary school. the suspect ran into the school and it took police six hours to find him. jessica kartalija and eyewitness news followed this story all day long from peca elementary. >> reporter: hours after running into william paca elementary school city please nabbed the suspect, identified at 26-year-old keon earl. >> the cameras picked him up coming into the building but obviously didn't see him coming out, so we knew he was in the building. it was just a matter of waiting it out and buttoning down the hatches and finding him. >> reporter: parents looked on as the s.w.a.t. team entered the school. >> the doors should be open. i was always afraid of this. >> reporter: a frantic mother

fears the worst. just before 10:00 this morning, police pulled a man aside for questioning on north lakewood street. >> it at some point the guy became spooked, and we later learned that it might possibly be a warrant out for his arrest. at that time that suspect then got up and ran towards this elementary school, which is behind me. >> they chased the young man, and he ran right into the building, and the police chased after him. all of a sudden there was like police from everywhere, then they started evacuating the building. >> more than 200 children attending summer school and summer camp were evacuated to a library nearby. >> this is really alarming, you know. i'm glad that she's safe and they exited the building safely. >> reporter: that suspect we're told was wand for violating his parole. police swat teams found him hiding out in a school cabinet. jessica kartalija, wjz, eyewitness news. >> and city schools say all summer learning activities will resume as scheduled tomorrow

morning. there are more problems tonight for the financially strapped republican party in maryland and former lieutenant governor michael steele. the baltimore sun is reporting that steele illegally transferred money from his campaign to the party. now the maryland board of elections wants the party to give $77,500 back to steel's 2002 campaign. if the money is not returned in two weeks, state prosecutors could file charges. now, these possible violations come amidst other problems for the gop including allegations that steele mishandled campaign funds. ghoulish. that is the word police are using to describe a crime uncovered in which i cage go. workers are charged with digging up hundreds of corpses so they could resell the gravesites. >> reporter: distraught family

members learned their loved ones may have been dug up and their cemetery plots he resold. >> i have 23 family members out here. this is ridiculous. >> reporter: investigators say four workers at that time chem terry outside chicago displaced about 300 bodies, dumping the remains in a mass grave, then they allegedly pocketed cash from unsuspecting customers. in some cases the bodies were simply pounded down and another person buried on top. >> there should be a special place in hell for these grave yard thieves. they've done so much thowrt these families. >> reporter: several prominent african americans are buried at the cemetery, including lynching victim emmitt hill. >> this crime, it's a whole new dimension that shows what you say lengths people would go to

for financial gain. >> reporter: investigators say the workers targeted older, unmarked and overgrown grave sites. many of the headstones were smashed and the remains scattered. >> this was not done in a very delicate way, folks. this was not replacing graves. it was not moving graves. this was dumping of them. >> other cemetery workers suspected something was going on. they alerted the cemetery owners who then called police. the suspects are charged with dismembering a human body, a charge that could carry up to 30 years in prison. kathryn brown, wjz, eyewitness news. >> the cemetery covers 150 acres and held as many as 1,000 burials a year. preparing now to avoid a crisis. that's the government's plan to tackle the upcoming flu season this fall two flu shots will likely be offered. one for the regular flu, the other for the h1n1 virus. health officials believe the virus could spread this winter to. help the government, it is freeing up $350 to -- $350,000 to states to pay for vaccines

the swimming privileges for a group of minority children. they were from a day camp that had a contract with the club to swim there. the director of the day camp said some of the children overheard club members asking, quote, what are black kids doing here. on its website the valley club said they realized after the first day they could not accommodate that many children, so they returned the money to that camp along with several others. even though formal charges were dropped, marion barry says the stalking allegations against him have caused great pain. marion was arrested after his ex-girlfriend issued a complaint. the u.s. attorney's office did not proceed because of a lack of evidence. now the former mayor is angry that he had to endure several days of speculation about his behavior. >> if this arrest had not occurred, we wouldn't be going through this pain. we have people did he buying in this city whether or not i'm a stalker or not a stalker. if the inappropriate arrest had not happened that would not

the record this morning. some neighborhoods got to 50 and 51. right around the baltimore area. so we had some cold temperatures in the 40s, now it's 72 out there, and around the baltimore region, mid to upper 60s, to around 70. the east flow will continue for another day before the winds shift to the west-southwest, it will bring more moisture, more humidity. you're going to definitely feel that by saturday night. and by saturday night with additional humidity, first chance of some scattered thundershowers in awhile. we could use the rain. saturday night late, not during the afternoon expected, at night and into sunday, we'll talk about a front that's going to be going through the area. that front will bring some humidity ahead of it. as the front goes through saturday night and sunday, that's when we get a chance of showers. it looks like by sunday afternoon it's south of us. less humid air moves in by sunday afternoon looks like it's going to be pretty nice.
