hello again, i'm don scott. >> i'm mary bubala. >> we begin with breaking news out of glen burnie where a man has been shot outside an apartment complex. now several area schools are on lockdown. good afternoon, wee. >> reporter: good afternoon don and everyone. even though school is out for the summer there are still a lot of summer programs, and with a potential murder on the loose police are not taking any chances. a qung man in his 20s shot and killed. the scene, a glen burnie apartment complex nothing less than chaotic. now surrounding neighborhoods are filled with anxiety. police say the person who pulled the trigger is at large. >> you haven't had that much of it going on in the neighborhood so it's kind of scary. >> as it stands we don't have a motive. we're continuing to interview witnesses to determine if there's possibly more than one suspect involved in this. >> reporter: at this time police don't even have a description of the suspect. he is most likely still armed, but they have taken serious

afternoon of drinking on a boat. it could be their last hope. parents and alumni are trying to keep towson catholic high school open by taking their fight to the court. >> reporter: good afternoon, don and everybody. the alumni association is seeking an injunction from a judge which would force the school to remain open. they say the parrish broke its contract with students because the parents had already paid tuition. that money will be returned but parents and teachers are strongly protesting the decision to close the school. don, back to you. >> thank you very much, sally. the school has been facing dwindling enrollment and increasing operating costs. >> a top corrections officer is in washington pressing for authority to jam cell phone signals in prison. this issue is front and center in the state since an inmate

arranged the murder of a federal witness behind bars. under federal law, jamming cell signals is illegal. among the maryland officials speaking today the man charged with running the state's correctional facilities and u.s. senator barbara mikulski. troubling news about the metro in washington, d.c. federal investigators say the signaling system continues to fail periodically. that problem has been linked to last month's deadly crash in which nine passengers died. the system is supposed to automatically prevent crashes by detecting passing trains, then transmitting speed and stop information. a passenger plane has crashed in iran killing everyone on board. the plane had just taken off from the aren't tehran and was heading to armenia. witnesses say they saw the tail section catch on fire, then shortly after the plane

>> troubling details released about the men accused of killing a florida couple. investigators now say the men trained for a month to prepare for the robbery. part of that training may have been in marshal arts. byrd and melanie billings were shot in their home last week.

so this is how we started out the day. cool once again, 58 degrees in baltimore, very close to the record, but the record this morning was 57. you see across the board it was a cool morning. but things are starting to change this afternoon. we are warming into the low 80s already. we're going to top out in the upper 80s. the dew points are starting to come up a bit out there. still somewhat comfortable, because we're in the 50s. that's not too bad for july. that is going to continue to climb tonight and tomorrow. tomorrow is going to be a warm and muggy day. the winds are turning around to the south ahead of a front that's moving our way. this is the front right here. it's going to move in tonight, and tomorrow we're going see the chance for a couple of thunderstorms with it. what happens after that we're going to show you on this map here that it generally stalls out in our area for friday. so later friday into saturday there's another chance for showers and storms as this next

low moves our way. it looks like right now on sunday that we'll try to get out of here at least temporarily. the warm air is going to stick around for the short term, but after this low finally gets out of here it will cool down. so the forecast looks like this today. we are looking at a nice one but a warmer one, up to 89 degrees fore a high. humidity starting to creep up. that's going to keep our temperatures from dropping overnight, 68 for the low. tomorrow 88 degrees is what we're thinking for the high. the chance for a couple of showers or thunderstorms. more humid and warm out there tomorrow, and then we'll see some more changes as we head toward the weekend. since they are giving me off for your anniversary tomorrow, i wanted to say happy anniversary. >> thank you very much. >> e-mail him tomorrow. >> your vote counts. >> still to come, a new report is out on drinking and driving. coming up in healthwatch, why more americans are putting down their keys. >> here are the top stories right now on wjz.com.
