and injured two officers. one has been released from shock trauma. another is still there. eyewitness news stays on the story live from the hospital. mike hellgren has the latest on their conditions and the's condition. >> reporter: officer jerome shaurette went for another surgery. the accused shooter had several domestic violence in the past and was under a peace order to stay away from an ex- girlfriend. police say 34-year-old shawn sinclair fired directly into the patrol car of officer jerome shaurette hitting him three times. officer shaurette responded after fellow officer curtis mcmillion called for backup. sinclair has an extensive record including several drug convictions and faced allegations of domestic

violence. eyewitnesses says the gun battle was frightening. >> it was really a shootout. we never experienced this. >> something like out of "law and order" a movie, walk up to the police driver and let loose. >> reporter: the violent incident happened when sinclair assaulted two women at separate location. one may have filed this protective order that was dismissed last year. >> to assault women is cowardess. to run around the street of baltimore established shim as a menace and backed it up with events on the scene. >> reporter: video taken minutes after the incident showing sinclair on the ground. police shot him twice. >> i have very few apologies to make about his condition or the outcome of this incident. >> reporter: both officers were wearing their protective vests. reporting live at shock trauma, mike hellgren, wjz eyewitness news. >> sinclair used a .09-

millimeter semiautomatic handgun. a shooting left a city teenager dead in the 800 block of kenwood avenue. a 16-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. a second teenager was shot in the leg. this noon police are searching for a suspect. in west baltimore, one man was killed in a house fire late last night. ron matz is live in the newsroom with more on the fire. good afternoon, ron. >> hi, mary. two men were pulled from that burning home and one of them was pronounced dead on south carey street. one of the men was not breathing, the other in cardiac arrest, the one who was in cardiac arrest died later, the other is still hospitalized. during the rescue, one firefighter was burned and the injured city firefighter was taken to john hopkins bayview hospital where he was treated and release. >> live in the newsroom. the cause of that fire is under investigation. a frederick county man is in custody charged in a car crash that killed a 15-year-old

girl. 42-year-old kevin smith is charged with multiple criminal charges including negligent manslaughter by automobile. police say he was driving drunk when he hit 15-year-old girl near westminster. he is scheduled for a bond hearing later today. a car crash in anne arundel county injuries nine people including many children. police say an officer had pulled over a car in self vern for a traffic violation when that driver suddenly pulled back into traffic causing a crash. five adults were transported to various hospitals with serious or critical injuries. four children suffered nonlife- threatening injuries. vandals break into three baltimore county churches over the weekend 24 hours before sunday services. one of those churches was united methodist on warren road in cockeysville. two offices were vandalized and a safe was stolen. it had about $40 inside. the minister of the church talked about it during her sermon yesterday. >> we don't know who these persons were who came and were so desperate that they had to

come into your home, but obviously they are searching for something that cash can't ultimately fulfill. >> the poplar grove methodist church and cockeysville baptist churches were also broken into. police are trying to find out who is responsible. maryland's republican party is struggling and now it wants change at the top. leaders of the state gop has gavin no confidence vote to state party chairman jim palura but the party stopped short of calling for a special convention which would be ride to get rid of him all together. he has faced calls to resign amid financial troubles and declining gop registration numbers in maryland. meanwhile, the state's most famous democrat is about to see his legacy set in stone. the finishing touches put on a larger-than-life of former bath mayor and controller william donald schaefer. the statue will be dedicated at the inner harbor this fall.

moon. drew levinson has look back at the men who left footprints on the moon and on history. >> reporter: 40 years ago the dream became a reality. >> one small step for man. one giant leap for mankind. >> reporter: astronaut neil armstrong leapt into the history books, the first man on the moon. buzz adldrin was right behind him. >> the high point of my life. >> reporter: armstrong shuns the spotlight. aldrin is -- only seems like blip of time when president kennedy declared america would go to the moon. just years after the word armstrong, aldrin and michael collins shooted on apollo 11. armstrong and aldrin raced down on the surface on board the tiny lunar module. >> the eagle has landed. >> reporter: in all just 12 men

an american soldier kidnaped by the taliban is seen on a new videotape. in it he talks about his family. >> i am afraid that i might never see them again. and that i will never be able to tell them that i love them again. i will never be able to hug them. >> the pentagon identifies the soldier as 23-year-old bowe bergdahl captured in afghanistan five months after his unit arrived. people in his small hometown are hopeful he will be released. >> the struggle for everybody. it is a very difficult situation. i am concerned obviously for bowe and for his family as

well. >> the taliban recently kidnaped a "new york times" reporter named david rhody. they released him after seven months. u.s. secretary of state hillary clinton working to win his release. a heroic rescue in milwaukee as people rescue a woman and her two children from a burning car. >> getting -- >> get away. >> the woman's suv somehow rolled over. the back half of it quickly became engulfed in flames inches from where one of her young sons were sitting. two off-duty firefighters used metal pipes to break through the windshield pulling out the women and children just in time. one of the children suffered third-degree burns, but everybody is expected to be okay. an average of 10 people drowned every day in the united states. and more than a quarter of those victims are children age 14 and younger. now the maryland parents of one victim are stepping up to make a difference. denise koch has preview what is

welcome back, everybody. taking a look outside. you can see the breeze is up a little bit here on federal hill, and the winds turning down to the east and southeast that will keep us cool over the next few days. 81 in baltimore. 79 in d.c. 70s in the mountains and 81 degrees in ocean city. the dew points are starting to creep up a little bit. they are still in the 50s, but by tomorrow they will be back in the 60s. it will feel a little bit muggier around here. the winds starting to turn around to the east and southeast ahead of the next storm coming our way. clouds are in place ahead of this storm. showers not that far off to the south. this storm will be a nor'easter making its way up the coast. everything we get will be

scattered starting later today, tonight into the day tomorrow, the farther south east you go in the viewing area the better chance you get of getting something because the storm will be farther up the coast. a look at our larger scale. a chance of showers and thunderstorms and we are starting to need that rain a little bit here and we will continue into tuesday until this storm gets on out of here. the thing is even though it gets out of here on wednesday, there is always another one right behind it. so in between the two, there is this chance for a shower or thunderstorm to pop up on wednesday. a very small chance, the chance goes up again as this next storm approaches us on thursday. the forecast, a couple of chances starting later today for shower and thunderstorm. le 3 degrees. otherwise mostly cloudy. 83 degrees. a chance of a couple of showers out there. tomorrow, look at those temperatures. only 78 degrees for our high tomorrow. it will be muggier and the chance for a few showers and thunderstorms as the storm makes its way up the coast.

in today's eyewitness news health watch, we have all heard about postpartum depression, but depression during pregnancy may be more common than you think. a survey of 800 pregnancy women found that 44% had symptoms of depression during the pregnancy. researchers found those women have nearly twice the risk of giving birth early increasing the health risk for their baby. health officials are preparing for more cases of the h1n1 flu this fall. despite the heat and humidity of the summer, the virus also known as swine flu continue to slide. experts estimate the h1n1 flu has already infected millions around the world. strenuous exercise may take a toll of your memory. women who normally engage exercises like running and swimming for decades experience a significant decline in their memory; however, research has
