hate crime, a family barbershop business vandalized, spray paintd with racist grafitti. >> that's what people are talking about this weekend. the black family that owns that barbershop is stunned and hurt this afternoon. susan collins there to explain

the shop was dumpd with some sort of flammable liquid. >> reporter: police believe it was gasoline but it wasn't set on fire before 911 was called. the family who own this is says they will face what appears to be a hate crime head on. >> the couches saturated with gas, and they pretty much just saturated everything with gas, the chairs, the dryers, the station. >> reporter: it's a crime that shocks the census. spray paint in this brooklyn park hair salon, threatening more is to come. >> you think times have changed. you think things are getting different, but seeing this and many being so young, you feel like dan, this is what my parents were talk about. >> reporter: glass in front of

the salon was smashed around 1:20 this morning and a witness did call 911. >> the subject had a black hoodie and was about six foot tall and thin build. >> they didn't know the sex or the race? >> no. they didn't give us that. >> reporter: police say this is a hate crime and theft and burglary. computers were taken, even barbering equipment. >> we will better chance this cleaned up and get it back open for business so we can have business as usual. we're not going to let this little incident stop us. >> reporter: the one saving grace is what police believe was gasoline was not set on fire. the supportive uncle says the family will come back. >> i'm going to do all i can to give them all the help they need. >> reporter: police say they are taking this very seriously. they have detectives on it right now and are sending more patrols out to that area.

back to ewe, adam. >> police said someone tried to break in two weeks ago but that person was not successful. we also have updates on the crash. the pilot is the son of betty norris. ntsb is still investigating the crash. jeffrey was killed along with nile boots and a female passenger. officials say they were raising money for children's charity. woman was shot while sitting inside her car. she was shot multiple times in the chest. no word on a suspect tonight but homicide detectives are investigating this shooting. some renewed concerns about the safety of the bike trail

tonight. a middle-aged couple were robbed and attacked when walking on the trail. they said a male teenager approached them from behind. the suspect demanded some valuables, but they didn't have any and that's when the teenager struck the male victim in the face. a baltimore county councilman is hit with a second dui charge. councilman stan was involved in a four vehicle accident that injured one person this morning. he failed a sobriety test. he also received another dui back in june of 2005. there's more safety concerns in the dc metro system after a train operator opened the doors on the wrong side of the platform. the metro has placed that operator on paid administrative

leave. official says the incident happened on thursday night on the green line. harvard professor has agreed to meet with the police officer who arrested him in a racially fueled controversy. president obama is going to serve as referee. >> reporter: it appear a meeting will happen between president obama, a white police officer in massachusetts and the black professor he arrested. in an e-mail to the boston globe the professor said he will accept the offer to meet over a beer at the white house. the e-mail said it's time for all f us to move on and assess what we can learn from the experience. president obama took the unusual step of what may be called bar stool diplomacy. he helped fan the flames of controversy higher a few days ago when he said the police

it's a slow mover. you see it's moving mainly off to the northeast. when we put it in motion, the idea is these are probably going to hold together until the sun starts to go down. even though the thunderstorms are going to die out some of the showers will linger. a lot of us have that chance as we head through the evening. it's a little bit strong and could have some hail. we will have the forecast coming up in a bit. baltimore county is getting greener next week. construction is set to begin on a 9 million-dollar agriculture center in hunt valley. it will have greenhouses, classrooms and office space. county officials say viz dollars be able to learn more about the importance of agriculture. they have will an exhibit on farm activities. it's expected to be finished by the end of next summer. you may have noticed

in separate incidents, a set of toddlers are hospitalized tonight after each were shot. in nevada a 2-year-old girl is listed in critical condition. she was shot in the torso by her 4-year-old brother on accident. in south carolina, a boy is recovering. he was shot while playing with a family friend. the homeowner describes how it

unfolded. >> he crawled under the bed and found that gun. when he come out from under the bed, he just pointed it and shot. >> doctors say the young victim has bullet lodged in his spine. police believe both cases appear to be caused by guns improperly secured and stored. a construction set turns into a child scene after a child is buried alive. they got stuck after climbing into the bed of a sand truck. their father was working on a pool at the time. the father will not face any charges for bringing his kids to a dangerous work site. one month after his death, devastated fans across the world, rumors are still swirling about michael jackson fathering another child. his brother addressed those claims that was honoring his

cynthia needed extensive and expensive dental care, but she had no money and didn't know where to go until this weekend. >> i says i'm going to go in and get my self-esteem back up. >> reporter: dentists and students teamed up to help patients with little or no insurance. dentists are seeing the number in patients drop. some are out of work. others don't have insurance, some never had it. in a tough economy, good prevention can save dollars on costly care. >> the teeth are not separate from the body. one of the things we are trying to do is teach prevention. 95% of dental disease disease be prevented with diet and home care. economically it's cheaper than restoring teeth. >> reporter: that lesson came too late. in 2007 the boy died after bacteria from a rotted tooth

we do have some thunderstorms making their way through the state right now. we thought most of them would hold off to the west. it's going to continue off to the east until we lose the heating of the day. some of this is alts going to clip western maryland as we head through the evening and overnight hours. as far as this line goes, we are seeing some strong thunderstorms along it. this is a pretty hefty thunderstorm. it's not very organized, but there is the potential for some hail with it where you see this purple popping up. also, the southern part here

right around frederick we're seeing purple that's been going up and down. potential some hail with this thunderstorm as it passes by. that's something we will be keeping an eye on. if any warnings come out, we'll be here to let you know about it. earlier today we had none of these problems. as we move through the afternoon hours, we had the sun started to work. it started to fuel the atmosphere. at the same time we have a front approaching from the west. it's a combination that have the storms getting strong today. another thing that's factoring are the temperatures. they have warmed up significantly today. we're up to 87 degrees. the dew points are still in the mid-60s. overall today, we did top out at 90 degrees. we have gone above the average. that's not happened much this season. most of the week, we're going

to be at or above the average of 88 degrees. the summertime weather is returning and this front will do a lot of work to it. scattered showers and thunderstorms are possibly. this is going to linger too monday. after that, it stalled out in the area and another round of moisture around it wednesday into friday with the chance for pop up showers and thunderstorms. the forecast out on the waters with all of this going on, we have some advisories in effect going on. we're going down to only 70 degrees. some of the showers and thunderstorms around and tomorrow another round of showers and thunderstorms. some of them strong and getting up to 90 degrees. lit be a muggy one also. over the next five days you can see at our above average. stan is leer. the orioles are on the road in beantown.
