good evening, everyone, thank you for joining us, i'm adam may and we're talking about severe weather. let's look live outside, this is the tower cam looking at the city. cloudy in the city right now, and up in the horizon, we have storms and let's check in with meteorologist, bernadette woods.

what's happening? we have severe thunderstorm warnings and a watch in effect. i want to show you the watches for this box right here until 9:00. the conditions are favorable, and we're seeing the warnings now and we have a severe thunderstorm warning for the county and for harford until 7:15. it's been dropped for the city. you can see, most of the action is north of the city. we have hefty thunderstorms to the north east and with hail and gusty winds. it's moving at about 25 miles per hour. now, there's another one in harford county now. this is a strong thunderstorm and where you see the purple, that's hail coming down. it will be picking up also for you in 80. we have another batch, we have to show you, over the eastern shore, we've had warning and they're in effect. at this point, it looks like a warning off of the coast of somerset and the thing is, there's a line of thunderstorms

from delaware stretching down just to the south here. they got the round earlier today. we have a round of thunderstorms out there and we have we'll have more of the forecast coming up. thank you. >> we have breaking news from eastern baltimore county. carbon monoxide poisoning sends three to the hospital and the high levels of carbon monoxide were found here at the cove village apartment complex. it's seen incidents this summer and three are being treated at the hospital. the fire department told us that a gas leak was the cause. we'll have the latest tonight at 11:00. well, heart break for a maryland family, a little girl disappears on the sassafras river and now, her body is found after a long search. mike schuh has the ending from the chesapeake bay. mike?

>> reporter: just across the water is the sassafras -- sassafras river. in an instant, tragedy. it's popular for boaters here and also a place for barges. >> the large vessels put out big wakes. >> reporter: a family moved too close to the passing barge. >> the vessel struck the wake from the bow, that created a bouncing affect. >> reporter: the girl, 11, sitting in front was thrown overboard. it's possible her boat hit her. >> we responded and began the search. >> reporter: they searched friday and saturday when the coast guard calls off the search. natural resources police continue this morning finding the girl. >> that location was 1/2 mile from the accident seen. the victim was transported to

the medical examiner's office of baltimore. >> reporter: the family's boat is a 23-footer and an open bow boat. the dnr are stressing that all kids and adults who aren't good swimmers, keep life vests on at all times. reporting live, back to you, adam. thank you, mike. a man's bizarre behavior leads the police to make a weapons and drug arrest. it's were the mall security saw a suspect spray painting a car and he later admitted it was his. he made alarming comments during the incounter and he had a shotgun, pistol and marijuana and he was arrested and charged. no one was hurt or in danger.

another attack on a popular bike trail has police on alert tonight. jessica kartalija reports that the police have a message for anyone using b&a trail. >> reporter: a popular place for hiking and biking turns into a crime scene again friday night. two walking the b&a trail are attacked. >> they were approached from behind from the subject and he demanded money and valuables and they refused. >> reporter: the suspect struck the male victim in the face and took off on foot heading towards cat tail passage and white road. >> reporter: the black male in his teens, wearing a black shirt and a black hat turned backwards. >> reporter: this attack comes after another robbery on the same trail near glenn bernie. >> the next thing i know, i looked out the window and the police department is here and

someone's laying down on the bench. >> reporter: he was beaten unconscious and taken to the hospital for a head injury. the police stepped up the patrols. >> reporter: the police tell us you don't need to be concerned on the trail only, but any wooded area. >> well lighted areas are the choice and just to remind people, the park, the trail is a park and the county parks close at sundown. >> reporter: jessica kartalija, wjz eyewitness news. and jessica says that the police are reminding people to stay in well lit areas. a washington, d.c. police chief is arrested for dui. david barker had a blood alcohol level of .19. he was driving an unmarked police vehicle. they're shocked at the news.

>> i'm surprised, that's the most i can say. this is behavior i've never seen. there it's something that's not a part of his career and even his ethics and i've worked with him for 19 years. >> reporter: he's on paid leave tonight and chief cook is the acting chief of police down there. alaskan governor sarah palin is stepping down tonight and hari sreenivasan has more on mccain's former presidential running mate. >> we'll see, we're here to serve the people. >> reporter: today, sarah palin is the most famous exgoverner. all weekend, the former vice presidential candidate is serving hotdogs and flipping salmon burgers on a good-bye term. she announced she was leaving office early.

she felt the probes against her wither a distraction and she wanted to focus on her family. >> i've been accused of all sorts of frivolous ethics violations accused of wearing a jacket with a logo. >> reporter: some suspect this opens up a presidential running and fellow republicans are confused. >> i wish she stuck it out and it seems to be you should finish the job. >> reporter: she wants to campaign for other candidates and pay off large legal bills and conservatives are sure she'll be back. >> i don't think we've seen the last of sarah palin. >> she excites people in the party and we're anxious to see what she'll do next. >> reporter: democrats are staying quiet. >> she's entering private life and we wish her well and it's up to her to decide what role she's going to play in the future.

she has advice i'm sure, she doesn't need mine. >> reporter: the lieutenant governor takes the reigns. at the pick anymore, some fans had t-shirts praising her. the justice department is ready to close the case on the anthrax attacks. investigators say they're confident he's acted alone in the deadly mailings and the department was going to close the case last week and the lawyers wanted more time to review the evidence. >> there some new funding is rolling in from maryland. federal funding is going to boost security in the law enforcement agencies and expand traffic monitoring.

happy day turning tragic at a wedding reception in indianapolis. two women suffered wounds to their legs and indiana police are investigating. >> we brought in a large contention of investigators due to the size of the particular group. probably well over a hundred this evening. >> tonight, she's still in critical condition and she underwent a surgery. tonight, the president of france remains in the hospital after falling ill during the afternoon job. sarkozy was rushed to a hospital for observation and treatment. his office denies reports that he lost consciousness. sarkozy underwent examinations and they had normal results and he'll be in the hospital until tomorrow morning. a dead whale stuck to the

ship's bow -- take a look. the ship struck the whale in the waters of british columbia. it was a young fin whale and that's the second largest after a blue whale. the officials must run the tests on the animal now. rescue workers came here for the firefighters convention. the events included a parade where 140 pieces of antique and fire apparatus are on display. this week they're say baiting -- celebrating the 150th anniversary. a lot of people in town for that and a lot of people are glued to the tv with the weather. >> yes, we had a round yesterday and today and we're looking at a radar now. i want to show you the radar.

a severe thunderstorm watch in effect for maryland and you can see the warnings underneath the areas of thunderstorm cells. we'll detail that and let you know more when we get back. every day about 30 women in the u.s. learn that they have cervical cancer. that's why i chose to get my daughter vaccinated. i chose to get my daughter vaccinated when her doctor and i agreed that the right time to protect her is now. because it's about prevention. take a look at this shot. beeve been looking -- we've been looking at the dark sky in the background. we have sunshine in some areas and thunderstorms in others. we have severe thunderstorms also. severe thunderstorm watch until 9:00 for everything inside the box and this is where we're seeing the warnings and taking you in on the thunderstorms in this areas. first of all, the warnings are for baltimore and harford until 7:15.

it exsends to montgomery county. this is making its way into bel air and hickory here and east of jacksonville now. there's another thunderstorm cell here around harford and butler. well, there are gusty winds and hail coming out of this also. this extending down to the south west. we've had a few reports that there's a little bit of rotation in the storms. that's a possibility with the severe weather. there's another cluster and no warnings at this point. all of the warnings to the south and virginia. this is moving to the north east and we could have more warnings for the southern parts of the shore and the beaches. we have thunderstorms in place and downpours and gusty winds for the thunderstorms there. we'll show you the watches and warnings. the watches in darker counties.

we'll keep you up to if anything else comes out. the storms came in overnight and died down and another round got going today. that's what we're seeing now. it's because of a cold front coming our way. the winds are pumping up the moisture. the dew points are into the 70s. that's very tropical. until the 70s, because of the storms going through, we were lower temperaturewise today. and here's the front making its way into maryland. it will be around tomorrow also. that will prompt another round of showers and thunderstorms during the day tomorrow and even though tuesday, it will move off of shore, we'll see another round. after that, another front coming our way and showers and thunderstorms. small craft advisories for tonight. we're going to 70 degrees with the thunderstorms and the strong ones will die down and we'll have some lingering through the overnight. tomorrow, 78 and muggy and
