scandal deepens as new charges are filed surrounding city hall. >> one of baltimore's most prominent councilmen is indicted. >> tonight she fines herself indicted again, and she's not alone. the charges stem from the corruption surrounding mayor sheila dixon. >> reporter: a lot of people are here at city hall. other people have been wondering for months why the owner of that big bakery wasn't charged. well, now he is. businessman and councilwoman indicted in corruption at city

hall. a $12500 political survey for holton's reelection. it was funded in part by this check after a meeting. the two had joint developments such as this ground breaking as prosecutors said seeking tax breaks could be a motive. holton spoke us to us about the investigation last month. >> i think it was a mishap. it's like, look at what we found. we can make something of nothing. >> reporter: legal experts speculate on the prosecutor's second attempt. >> i think i have to from a reputation standpoint salvage something, and they have done that. >> reporter: he's agreed to testify against holton and dixon. they had no idea about the inindictment until we provided them with a copy.

the mayor has no comment and her attorney is out of town. dixon is still accused of stealing gift cards meant for needy children. >> i have done so many initiatives and efforts where we work with the needy. so, you know, i was very bothered and that hurt particularly when i knew it wasn't true. >> you figure if it didn't get the proper bite at the apple the first time, what do they have this time? >> i believe everyone's innocent until proven guilty. >> reporter: late this afternoon, holton's attorney issued a statement saying his client was innocent. >> here is the latest. city councilwoman and prominent

baltimore's archbishop. >> we know parts of the city are very violent. parts of the city are as bad as afghanistan if not worse. >> 18 people including a pregnant woman and a baby were shot on sunday night. the gunfire is part of a battle between rival drug organization. more officers are out on the streets as a strategy to fight crime and soon they'll have more manpower to do it. it's all part of the federal economic stimulus plan. >> reporter: will 50 new officers make a difference? one business isn't so sure. >> you want iced or hot? >> reporter: the coffee shop

murray. the physician was hired by jackson's concert promoters and was with jackson when he died. >> they're looking through the documents at this time and looking for anything that comes under the direction of what the search warrant itself states. >> reporter: investigators were looking for any records related to jackson and his reported aliases. this follows a similar search last week at a houston medical clinic where murray also works. the coroner here in los angeles is expected to release the details on michael jackson's death sometime this week. they were asked to hold off on any report pending the investigation. a law enforcement source tells us the investigation is centered around diprivan.

the houston search was based on a preliminary autopsy finding. the doctor, quote, did not prescribe anything that should have killed michael jackson. according to his lawyer, he assisted the of officers. >> lawyers for michael jackson's mother asked for personal documents in advance on monday's hearing on who should control his $500 million estate. the judge denied the request. today the senate voted 13-6 for the supreme court nominee. the full senate vote is expected next week. if she is confirmed, which she is expected to be she will replace retiring supreme court

justice. president obama will meet with henry louis gates and the man who arrested gates. it's sparked a nationwide debate on police and racial profiling. media will be allowed to take a picture of the three, the meeting itself will be private. shocking warnings from the world's cancer experts. if you use a tanning bed, you're exposing yourself to something as harmful as arsenic. if you use a tanning bed before you're 30, you increase your risk of getting cancer by 75 percent. most tanning beds use ultraviolet radiation which can cause skin and eye cancer. you can read more in the medical journal. it's being called a crisis

it is 75 degrees and cloudy in maryland right now. first, a north carolina neighborhood is stunned as federal agents arrest a group of aspiring terrorists. they call alleged ring leader daniel boyd nice and well mannered. they were training with terrorists in pakistan. they were gearing up for a jihad but the group was not part of a larger network.

they want virginia governor to reopen a state commissioner report because of inaccuracies and omissions. the gunman's mental health file was found. they want it to be part of the new investigation. his file will be examined and the original report will be corrected if needed. a federal safety study wants airplanes to be strengthened to withstand an 8- pound bird which is twice the current stand. bird air crash collisions have been under review recently. a southwest airlines flight returned after hitting a flock of birds on take off. changing design standards is a concern because it will increase the weight of the planes. there is danger behind the

wheel for those guilty of texting while driving. a new study shows the risks of texting on the road are much greater than previously thought. >> we pass a driver hauling a heavy load and texting. >> they're going to hurt somebody or hurt themselves one, one of the two. >> reporter: this trucker isn't the only one with fast fingers. they observe truckers for more than 6 million miles. they discovered truck drivers who text are 23 more times likely to get into a crash or near crash. in the study, texting drivers looked off the road and at their phone for almost 5 seconds while texting. at 55 miles per hour, that's more than enough time to cover

the entire length of a football field. a mobile shredding company is based in baltimore county. >> there's no reason. it doesn't make business sense to say text message while you're driving down the road at 60 miles an hour. it's a recipe for disaster. >> reporter: their drivers are never allowed to use cell phones while the truck is moving. when they get to the site, they call but there's no use of phones or text messaging on the road a similar law goes into effect here in maryland october 1st. the ban should be extended across the country to keep all drivers safe. after october 1st, drivers caught texting behind the wheel could have to pay a fine up to $500. in baltimore county, wjz eyewitness news. >> the study shows dialing and

>> we do want to disappear some of these storms moving into the region. the only thing we've been able to find on the radar, one little storm that crawled across rising sun. the only thing on the radar at this point. that's not a bad thing. we're looking at more storms moving into our direction, and they should get here by tomorrow afternoon. 75 degrees now, 74 the dew point. 29.89 and steady is the barometer reading. just a tad above the normal temperature. over night lows have been constant, right around 70 degrees. around the state we have 68 in oakland, 83 on the shore, 73 in

elkton, and temperatures in the mid to upper-70's. these winds are coming in because of the flow of air around the high pressure system. the bermuda high swinging it into our direction and adding to that steamy feel. what will happen tomorrow? the jet stream is spinning these two air masses together and we will see a bit of a mix. that will bring us a chance for some thunderstorms and through the next few days. we have some light scattered showers around much of the area. the heaviest storm was south of the area, took a bit of a beating, some really heavy storms but then that was it. this is what we're watching now, this is an area coming across the tennessee valley. this will move in by tomorrow afternoon. that along with the front will
