first, bernadette woods? the reason we need to get to it. some of the thunderstorms are moving their way through the state and we don't want to mess with them. southern part of the eastern shore and up into delaware. several counties until 5:15. look at this line of thunderstorms. it's moving so quickly at 40 to 45 miles per hour. the thunderstorms alone have 45 miles per hour winds associated with it. berlin, it's picking up and ocean city, it will be moving in. we'll take this further to the south and show you the same trend here. snow hill, it will be letting up and we're not finished yet. in addition to this. we have thunderstorms hanging behind this and not the weather we're seeing with the winds. in, as far as the watches and warnings.

we have the warnings in affect. worcester, somerset until 5:15 and we have a flash flood warning for cecil county until 8:00 and for the rest of us, severe thunderstorm watch until 9:00. that's just part of the story. where they've gone through, we've seen problems. well, you talked about what's hatching now -- happening now, we'll show you what's going on across the area and we'll show you what's happening. we saw the thunderstorms rolling through and some are developing strongly down across the lower eastern shore and we're seeing now, basically, the storms are reported with temperatures, well, wind speeds up to 74 miles per hour in some parts of the area and as we're seeing here. the development is across the eastern shore. we saw this picking up into the heat of the afternoon and as it did, we started to see the damage across parts of western

maryland and carroll county and frederick county. as a matter of fact, we're looking at some, well, updates, as a matter of fact, we saw this color going a different color here, this is mauve, we saw this color change over, there's a tornado warning for worcester until 5:30. this changed and we saw this. this is saying that the radar is indicating a built of -- a bit of a rotation and this area here, until 5:30, including ocean city, it's pivotal. a lot of folks are down there on a friday, they're making their way in and the population is highier than it may be during the regular portion of the week. the storms are moving through and what we're watching are the signatures that are showing you the different direction of the winds. what we're seeing here, bernadette woods is showing us, the storms will move past friendship at 5:02 in the next few minutes or so.

we're seeing near berlin and shingle landing and taylorville at 5:11 and gray's corner, 5:12 and down around holly grove, at 5:16. if you're in the path of the storms, what you need to do is go to interior portions of the house, bath rooms and of course, you'll have to go to the interior portions of the homes and stay away from windows and we'll continue to keep you posted as the storms keep developing. thank you, tim. there are 15 homes in the thanks burg area damaged right now. three to four are severely damaged. this is from sky chopper 13. right now, there's one report of an injury, a woman hurt her wrist and the path stretches for a mile. alec >> alex demetrick has more.

system so much a hit, the government ran out of money in a week. now, they're -- hi, mike. >> reporter: hi, well, it's still in operation for now. the goal was to get the less fuel efficient cars off of the roads and the program is in a bit of a victim of its own success. so many are turning the clunkers for cash, they're out of money and it should be good through the weekend. >> reporter: chopper 13 a over the port of baltimore and the supply of new cars stacked up as the economy faltered and credit dried up. the cash for clunker's program has been the bright spot. boosting car sales along with the economy faster than most expected. >> we're glad to have the fuel

efficiency and a cool new car. >> reporter: the funding nearly ran out in a week and the house passed a bill for $2 billion extra. it needs the senate approval and that won't happen until monday. for a consumer that has one of the vehicles that qualifies. they should go to the dealership this weekend if they were planning on doing that. find the vehicle they're looking for and get the transaction started. >> reporter: he's president dealer's association. the program's management is flawed, he said. >> they can't attempt to get reimbursed i don't know of a maryland dealer reimbursed yet. >> reporter: bring in the beater and you get a $35 to $4500 rebait for it. the car will be crushed and the program is designed to help the

environment by taking less fuel efficient cars off of the road. >> last night's scare brought them out in droves. >> >> reporter: this is the general manager here at volkswagen. he hopes they won't run out of the cash any times soon. >> get in as soon as possible. >> reporter: and this program was going to last through november, again, next week, the senate is expected to vote on monday for the extra $2 billion in funding and that may not last two weeks past this date. reporting live, mike hellgren, wjz-13. well, that's not your hoopty behind you, is it? probably not. we'll find out later. a man is arrested after a case of road rage before 6:00 last night. he was pulled over. the police officer pulled over what appeared to be an accident, but the 24-year-old

woman said she cut the 66-year- old off and he pulled a gun on her. >> >> baltimore county police have started identifying locations for speed cameras. the device are approved for school zones and they'll start out small. >> reporter: coming to a school zone possibly near you, the speed cameras and mark gold and his neighbors can't wait to get theres. we're asking the county police to come out regularly and hand out traffic tickets. so, i can't think of a better place in the county for the cam rat. >> reporter: they were approved for the use at the highway construction sites and in school zones. they'll install 12 to 15 over the objection of opponents who launched a drive to make the issues something that the voters would subsidize.

>> reporter: the petition drive failed and baltimore county is moving forward. >> the police department focuses on public safety. i haven't been part of a gathering or discussion talking about the revenues generated from this. in fact, if they abide by the law, we'll generate nothing. >> reporter: they're still in the process of choosing the locations and they can't move enough for this resident. >> the law is the law and if you're over the speed limit, you'll get the ticket and that's the way it is. on a road like this, it's being, that's being traversed by children, safety of the children has to come before the money making concern you have for the county. >> reporter: the police are going to install them after october 1st. there will be a 30 day grace period and if you're a violater, you'll just get a warning. i'm pat warren, now back to you on television hill. the police chief says there

will be a campaign to make sure that the drivers know where the cameras are. and it's that time where we're teaming up with the orioles and masn to feed the hungry. the food drive for the maryland food bank is underway. program,. >> reporter: well, hi, kai, well, it's fun time and summertime and the maryland food bank says that many are out visiting the ballparks and enjoying vacation and sometimes they forget there's a need that remains. >> reporter: empty shells. few boxes. >> people forget. >> reporter: low donations. maryland food pink is looking for fans to help feed the hungary. >> and we're scratching the surface. >> reporter: she runs the fund raising office and the problem is one of supply and demand. giving is low, because the economy is slow and the number

of people in need is up because of deep job loss. >> people need to understand, people are hungry, it's not just the people below the poverty level, it's seniors and it's kids. if you have something you can share, money, food, you need to do it. >> reporter: the baseball fans can help and they have in the past. last year, the o's food drive raised $30,000 in cash and 9000 pounds of food. since the food drive started in 2004, fans gave more than $120,000.46 thousand pounds of food for the maryland food bank. >> it's about looking in the mirror and saying, today, you made a difference. >> reporter: donors should give smart. check expiration dates and don't give food in glass containers and check on items to give, it really needs cash.

>> it's not just a food drive, it's an educational process, too. our mission is to lead the movement and we can't do it by ourselves. >> >> reporter: and they need the o's fans to come out and support and many are already arriving for the game. now, the maryland food bank wants to raise 10% more than last year. that means they need a lot of donations and coming up, we'll find out who are the better givers, the red sox fans are the o's fans. thank you, gigi. wjz-13 and the orioles are teaming up to feed the hungary. take nonparrishable food to the camden yards this weekend. we'll collect the donations at the gate. tomorrow, gigi will be there, vick, mike hellgren and pat will be collecting donations.

>> >> we have damage from thinks burg from the storms that moved through joining us live, it's deputy state fire marshall bruce bouch. give us your assessment today. >> at 2:58 p.m., we had a very strong storm passing through the area and it affected approximately 15 homes. four homes received heavy damage with serious damage to the roofs and windows. the storm traveled approximately one mile and toppled trees and some wires to the residences. >> was, well, injuries to report? >> we have one minor injury to report. a female was trying to close the interior garage door of the home and the storm passed through and blew the door in on her causing a wrist ingram i

think -- injury. >> did anyone describe the storm to you. was it anything like a tornado? >> well, they had the typical explanation of hearing what sounded like a train coming through. >> but, we haven't confirmed touch downs, is that correct. no, the national weather service will be hopefully sending a crew out within the next day or so to assess the damage and inform us as to whether or not the damaged rates in the scale area for a tornado. at this time, we can't confirm. thank you, that's the deputy state fire marshall. bernadette woods and tim williams have complete first warning weather coverage. first, bernadette woods? well, as you are talking about the last system and with the deputy. what we want to keep stressing

whether or not the winds are turning or coming straight. that's the damage we can see. when ever we have a warning of any sort, we don't want to mess with it, we have a tornado for basically, some you are -- somerset for 5:30. and for this storm going through now and worcester county, i'm confused. that's worcester until 5:30. all of the beaches, that's what we're concerned with. the storm is making its way offshore. we'll take you through it briefly. you're seeing thing west're not used to seeing around here. there what this indicate. it looks at the direction away and towards the radar. when you see the greens and reds next to each other. that's an indication there could be a rotation going on with the storm. this was as it came through berlin and ocean city. that's why the warning was issued and at this point,

without the twisting winds, the wind gusts are approaching 70 mire and -- 70 miles per hour. it extends to the south west and it goes into virginia and delaware. on the back of this. we have a few thunderstorms an not what we're seeing on the front end. as soon as we get through it. we'll get a sigh of relief and for more, here's tim williams in the weather center. well, the storms came through quick him this is what it looks like now. we're looking at this green. this is a flash flood for cecil county until later on this evening. many of the warnings have rolled into delaware and still, along the area here and this is the main one. tornado warning until 5:30 around the beaches as we mentioned. we'll bring in the ocean city camera. this is from the ocean gallery to give you an idea. we'll show you rain around the lens here. this is been a perfect storm. a lot of things going on here.

this is a get away friday. a lot of folks on the beaches and more than typically. we went through a digital conversion and many are watching us on the port ball televisions and they can't see us now. they were caught in the storm and it rolled in quick little many of the folks could have gotten off and the winds rolled off quickly. we want to show you the radar and satellite composite. the storms ballooned and now, you can see the heavier storms along the beaches and they're moving quickly through upwards of 40 miles per hour on across and there's a lot of wind and rain and they're coming down and developing as we speak. we'll continue to keep you post. let's go to sharon gibala to check on the roads. hi, kai kai, well, the rain

and the rush don't mix. here's a look at a latest accident 95 northbound in emmer ton road. you can see the deday -- delays here beyond the seen. er and a new wreck is here in the southbound lanes here. you can see the speed sensor at 12 miles per hour. there and another one in timonium, downed trees and they're blocking the lanes there and now, they're blocking the leftbound rain. between the beltway, there's a crash there and another one between frederick and wilkens. 95 northbound approaching white marsh, there's another one at butler and belmont and as far as delays. there's the drivetimes and delays on 95 and the top and the westside of the beltway. there's 50 and 11-mile backup.

we're not done with the storms yet. we have just officially dropped the tornado warning for the

beaches and most of the storms are going offshore. this is the heaviest off of the beaches. there are still thunderstorms out there. behind it, there are thunderstorms and this is going to make it east towards delaware and there are downpours near it. now, for some of the damage reports. they're coming out and they're extensive and we'll send it to tim for that. we're updating the damage reports. they're fast and fours you. we want to concentrate on carroll and frederick county. we have homes and barns damaged and trees uprooted. we're getting weather reports. we've seen the pictures like this. 74 miles per hour wind at crestwood. the trees and power lines are down in carroll county.

that's north of -- >> trees are also down over howard county. sky chopper 13 is on it and now, more with bernadette woods. well, we lost the tornado warning. the worst is moving away and we're not done yet. we have strong thunderstorms that made they their way through the shore. here's the update. also, warnings in affect for delaware. here's the line as it goes through the state quickly. behind it, we're drying out nicely. temperatures dropped significantly. we're at 88 for the high and 74 degrees. just about the drop with the thunderstorms going through and everyone's getting knocked down. the dew points will come down as the storm makes its way offshore and tomorrow, we'll watch with it, to the south,

first warning weather continues with burn been -- bernadette woods and tim williams. >> well, the latest since we've dropped the warnings. still, thunderstorms and the worst is finally offshore. don't underrest mate the storms out there. this one, this one produced the damage now makes its way offshore. the other part was to the north and that's in new jersey. we're seeing thunderstorms along ocean city and berlin, a few showers out there. that's about it at this point. farther west, a few thunderstorms to deal with and nay're not severe criteria. if that changes, we'll let you know. there are still thunderstorms out there and for a wrap up of what we've seen, here's tim. >> well, around the state, we're losing the colors here.

we're only still now see this widespread area of light gray. this is a watch in effect until 9:00 for the area because the atmosphere is conducive. we're seeing the flash warning in affect for cecil county. the regional comose sit show -- spues sit -- composite showing the rain moving up north and the rain is settling in. the flash flood watch in affect is usually for the rain coming down and there could be mild flooding because of the rain saturating the ground and it's moving on shore. we'll continue to keep you posted. thank you, tim. the winds and rain are taking its toll on the power lines. at this time. anne arundel has 18,000 power

>> it's really hard, by the spanish people they needed the license for driving for work for the economy. >> they say it's standard policy to revoke the license if it was an error. >> this is involving the law enforcement and we can't speak about it. the aclu could take further legal action once it sees if they're reenstated. the ocean city officials are moving forward to band salvia. it's an hallucinogenic herb. it's banned in ten states including delaware, but not maryland. it's time to feed the hungry and we're at cam be -- camden yards teaming up to help the food bank.

welcome back, here's the damage we're seeing in carroll county from the storms that went through already. unfortunately, we're seeing a lot of this across carroll county and frederick and we've seen the reports from also montgomery and howard counties and this did make its way to the eastern shore. at this point, it's looking like it's binding down. winding down. we don't have warnings with those showers. , we want to take you through tomorrow's forecast and the ocean city forecast and i'll get to the five day in a moment. here's tim. well, we had strong storms through ocean city and if you're going down there, there's an 11-mile backup. this is the forecast. temperatures getting up into the mid-80s and chance of afternoon thundershowers on saturday and sunday. the water temperature in the 70s and we're bringing you the forecast this summer.

as far as saturday, temperatures will be up nicely in the 80s. we're talking about 90 degrees. sunshine can't rule out the possibility of an afternoon or evening shower. it's a slight chance to the west of the state and again, the temperatures are nicely in the mid-to upper 80s. foundation wants to construct five stadiums and athletic fields around the area for the children. >> the purpose is to give the kids in at risk neighborhoods some tough neighborhoods a safe place to play. >> reporter: the stadium will be $1 million to build and organizers say that baseball is the hook, but not the ultimate goal. it's not about baseball. it's about giving the kids a chance to develop into productive and contributing citizens. >> reporter: it will give them a safe place to play and for some, it could be a field of dreams for their futures. this lady applauds the ripkin foundation. >> giving them the opportunity to play in fresh air and they're limbed to that in the city.
