sudden impact. a violent collision leaves a woman dead. >> tonight police say the driver of a speeding stolen car is to blame. >> hello everybody. >> here's what people are talking about tonight. >> the breaking news from west baltimore. an innocent driver killed in a horrific crash with a suspect in the car. kelly has more. >> reporter: police spotted the stolen vehicle about ten blocks in that direction from here. just before the collision which you can see over my shoulder, one neighbor tells me the car was going at least 70 miles an hour. >> where a front bumper rests is where a stolen car collided into a woman's car. her vehicle ended here, about 75 feet away. >> this is the first time i'll ever seen anything like that before. i hope i never have to see it again. >> reporter: several unmarked

police cars had spotted the stolen vehicle on lexington and mlk boulevard. they say they weren't following the erratic car thief. >> they attempted to file. something spooked the driver. he took off at a high rate of speed before the officers from the regional auto theft task force could follow, based on the way the driver was driving they were ordered to pretty much break it off immediately. . >> i saw the suv speeding up the street at a high rate of speed when i looked up again, the police car was coming behind him. not speeding, had on his flashing lights, no sirens or anything. then when i looked up again the car was flipping and hit the wall. that's when i remembered saying "how did the police get here so soon?" >> reporter: and you can see police are still here trying to reconstruct the scene and make sure they know exactly what happened. this gentleman is the suspect's car. he is in serious condition at an

at the future of gm's progress for electric cars. transmission systems for gm cars, trucks and hybrids have been the bread and butter of employees at the white marsh plant. they could soon have a major hand in developing a rear wheel drive electric system. general motors was awarded a grant to be shared by the white marsh plant and another in michigan. the money is part of the federal government's $2.4 billion investment in more fuel efficient electric cars. >> this represents the largest investment in this kind of technology in american history. >> reporter: the money comes from the government's $800 billion stimulus package and will require a company match from gm which recently emerged from bankruptcy. the news excites maryland senator barbara mccullsky. >> we're so happy green jobs will be born there am on route
