a woman killed when a stolen car strike her. now, many a questioning if the accident was a result of a police chase. hello, again, people are talking about the driver of the stolen car who was speeding slamming into another vehicle, killing the driver. now, police know the name of the woman and told us. >> reporter: a witness said that they watched the accident unfold. and some are saying that the police were chasing the thieve. and police are saying that they have a different version. but one woman is dead and a suspected car thieve is in the hospital. sky eye chopper 13 is over the

scene of a deadly car collision yesterday afternoon. now, police know the name of the woman killed in the accident. the crash left her car in a twisted mess feet away from the sidewalk. >> this is the first time i have ever seen anything like that before. and i hope i never have to see it again. >> reporter: mckay was dribbing her car southbound when the driver of the gray car struck her. police are saying that car was stolen and the thieve was trying to get away from officers, from the regional auto theft task force. but police insist, they were not chasing the car thieve. >> he took off at a high rate of speed, before the officers could follow. based on the way that driver was driving they were order to break it off immediately. >> reporter: rescue workers rushed the thieve and mckay to shock trauma, but it was too late for her. and witnesses are saying that

they saw the dead lee accident. >> a police car was coming behind him, not speeding, had on his flashing lights no sirens or anything. when i looked up again the car was flipping. >> reporter: now, police know the name of the victim, they have not identified the allege car thieve. he is in serious condition. back to you. >> thank you. police are saying that the driver of the stolen car will face a string of charges. our other top story this noon. another case of animal abuse in the city. this time a cat is fighting for it's life after someone set it on fire. ron is live. >> reporter: police are saying that witnesses reported seeing two people dousing the cat in a liquid and setting it on mere. animal control found the 8- month-old in very bad shape.

she is being transferred expected to be treated for her injuries. there is a recent string of attacks on animals, including the pit bull that had to be euthanized and last month, a cat died after fireworks were set off. now, the city launched a task force. >> thank you, ron. and there is a thousand dollar reward for those responsible. right now, crews are dealing with another water main break in the city. it happened two hours ago in the 28th hundred of kirk avenue. the crews are working to shutdown the water and the row has been shutdown in the meantime. swine flu vaccine started to arrived to at the university of maryland school of medicine. the school is preparing to test the effectiveness of the vaccine. groups will receive one shot on monday, followed by another one three weeks later. if it is found to be safe for

the country's turning point. 247,000 jobs were cut. a lot of layoffs, but that is the smallest number in the year. and a unemployment rate dropped. that decline took economists by surprised. they are seeing it as a signal that the recession could be grinding to an end. >> people are out of a job. and still have a tough time for the next six to nine months. >> reporter: the job picture improved across the board. fewer cuts in manufacturer, construction and financial services, all areas hit hard with the collapse in the industry. >> when i do go on the rare interviews, i'm competing against 40 to 50 people. >> reporter: and it could be like that for a while. the obama administration warned that the unemployment could be worse, 10% by the end of the

one of the taliban's leader has reportedly been killed by a u.s. missile strike. died wednesday during a cia strike. he is believed to be a leader of a violent suicide attempts and assassinations. his step is considered a major step. volunteers from maryland are headed across the country

today to battle wildfires in oregon and beyond. a 20 member crew will travel to the area where fires have been started by lightning strikes. they have not been assigned a specific role, but will be therefore two weeks. the trusty liquidating madoff's invest is getting $15 million to do the job. a bankruptcy judge stated to do the deal. despite protest, some are arguing that the man is not paying them fast enough and wasting money. if you need change for a dollar, you might want to held to dallas, texas. several hundred dollars worth of bags fell off of the armored vehicle and total $1,500. the loose change, all of the

california based beef packing plan is recalling 800,000 pounds of ground beef. the beef was recalled by beef packers inc. the usda is saying that the strain of salmonella is resistant to many commonly prescribed drugs. the first day of school is around the corner. and the government is telling the vetters how to deal with the swine flu. schools should only close this fall as a last resort. and they are saying that sick students can return to class 24 hours after their fever has subsided. in hailing pollution from traffic is dangerous for children and adults. researchers looked at pollution and asthma. none of the participants had ever smoked. but over 11 years of follow-up, 41% developed asthma.
