collision over the hudson, nine are believed dead after a plane and a tour helicopter collide and. and tonight, the investigation into what happened. thank you for joining us, good evening, i'm adam may and that's what people are talk about this weekend collision happened before noon today and now, tonight, mayor michael bloomberg calls it unsurvivable. a group of italian tourists were on board. >> reporter: emergency officials rushed to the hudson and there was little they could do. there the helicopter, there's a blade and a big puff of smoke and a boom after wards. it went straight down into the water. >> reporter: the officials say there was no hope for any of the nine on board as both planes came crashing down. >> this was probably not survivallable from instant that the accident or certainly, a few seconds later.

>> reporter: the mayor says that five tourists and a pilot were on board the helicopter that took off along the river. two pass years -- passengers and a pie lot were on the plane. >> reporter: this corridor is extremely busy air place. the air traffic control usually communicates through the same radio frequenciful some debris dropped into the streets across the river from manhattan. >> it took a nose dive, you couldn't see it. you could see the little pieces of debris. the divers located the wreckage and located two bodies. >> they carried the bodies slowly. >> reporter: the last time this happened, it was happier. in january, a us airway's jet landed safely on the water.

the state's governor call id it the miracle on the hudson and today, no miracle, only tragedy. in new york, wjz eyewitness news. and the ntsb will investigate the cause of the accident. meanwhile, back in maryland, two are killed in carroll county this morning and late this afternoon, the names of the victims were released. let's go live to mike hellgren. mike? >> reporter: adam, the pilot lived at this home behind me and he had two children, the neighbors say. >> reporter: the blue plane sits nose first near this air park and it crashed around 7:30 this morning and the authorities say that the experienced pilot and a passenger died on impact. >> it's not for us to speculation on what may have caused this at this time.

that's for the experts. >> reporter: the engeneral and propeller are behind the pilot. it's a light sport, it's lightweight and that mean that is the ntsb won't investigate, but the faa will. it's unfortunate. it was a quick response by all of the agencies and it was just one of the instances where nothing could be done. >> reporter: the medical examiner ordered the bodies taken to baltimore and the pilot knew the area well. he rented a hanger there. >> you watch them going over the wires and then they peel off. >> reporter: he lives nearby and he says that they fly close to the ground and they see their faces and this is heart breaking. we were able to see that there was a plane down and they didn't make it. it's devastating, they're

people that you know. >> reporter: their final destination is unknown. >> reporter: the other victim was from edgewater. and the pilot was flying at the same air park for three years. all right, mike hellgren, thank you so much. wjz is always on. we have the first pictures at wjz.com and stay with us for updates on the story. the health department is looking for anyone who may have come in contact with a rabid kitten outside of a mall. it was outside of the sears wednesday. it's a solid, short hair black hair. anyone handled the cat, call the county health department. >> the search for a baltimore corrections officer is offer. a 32-year-old may have been abducted. now, tonight, the police say she's spoken with her family and they believe she's all right.

well, you can call her justice sotomayor. she was sworn in by john roberts today. 60 guests were there for the ceremony. she's the nation's first hispanic justice and the court's third female justice. today, president obama sounded a hopeful note for the economy. >> this month's job numbers are a sign that we've put the brakes on the recession and the worst may be behind us. we must do more than rescue the economy from the crisis. we must rebuild it stronger than before. >> reporter: the assessment comes on the heels of a better an expected jobs report. the number of people losing their jobs dropped and unemployment rate registered at 9.4%. key indicaters will be released this week including the consumer spending.

hillary clinton is in africa this week. she arrived today and she's meeting with the south african president today. take a look here, she took time to visit a capetown neighborhood. all in all, it was a nice day in baltimore. today, teens took advantage of the weather and played b ball. let's look outside at the weather. we'll have a little bit of clouds? and it's still nice compared to the weather we've had. let's check in with bernadette woods for the weather. >> well, we have the transition from the storms. we're showing the hottest air this season and in between that, i want to show you the radar, there's a warm front through the state. it will bring in the warmer air and i want to show you, we've seen thunderstorms firing there and they're drifting away from

maryland. now, this could have showers as it skims across maryland and for the most part, people will see clouds and we could see a shower or two. tonight before the warm air it will be the hottest we've felt so far this season and we'll have the numbers coming up. and baltimore's city hall is getting spruced up. the scaffolding is set up for the workers to restore the marble and the damaged walls and cleaning the gutters and the wiring inside the building. it will cost about $400,000 it will be finished this december. well, coming up tonight on wjz eyewitness news. the mounted patrol is in jeopardy and tonight, they're issuing a new plea to survive. new video surfaces recording the final moments after the deadly tragedy in a pennsylvania health club. another water main break puts a damper on the ailing budget. i'm gigi barnett in north east baltimore.

horrifying video after the gunman opened fire in a pennsylvania fitness club. this was taken across to lot. the man fired 35 shots in the

class killing three and injured nine and then shot himself. four of the women are hospitalized and they're expected to live. eunice kennedy liver is in -- shriver is in the hospital tonight. the city scrambled to fix a better main -- water main break and it's one that continues to put a damper on the budget. >> he was floating in the water. >> reporter: within a matter of house. this basement was a wet mess. water up to three feet high flooded the basement and the cause, a 16-inch water main break near the row house here. >> i feel bad about it.

it needs new pipes. >> reporter: the city agrees this is one of many for baltimore this summer. in april, a 20-inch water main break flood downtown baltimore and shutdown buildings and wracked up a price tag of $225,000. and now, the kick avenue break will cost the cities and homeowners. >> something has to be done and when the funds become available, it will have to suck it up. >> reporter: the neighbors had no power around water and to help,the red cross arrived baring gifts. >> we promised we would bring breakfast. at that time last night, they didn't know how long it would take for the water to come back on. >> reporter: as the city struggles to return to normalcy, the pipes are breaking faster than they can be repaired and that's the root of the problem. >> we're fighting age.

we have an aging infrastructure here and we're paying attention now at least and trying to be plainful about making the repairs and when this happens, you have to stop it and take care of the neighborhood. >> and once that's done, replacing old pipes will begin again. i'm gentlemen gigi, wjz-13. and 150 houses were out power and water. the great prostate challenge is around the corner. you can get a free screening this sunday. they're from 8:00 to 1:00 at the free well baptist church and come out for the cancer challenge, that's on september 26th at st. joseph medical center. well, the city police mounted you nit is -- unit is hoping on getting a big check

and now, $550 in donations are put forth. they need about $250,000 in private money to stay running. the donations are coming in in the 50-dollar donations and some are donating in the form of hay and feed. now, they have enough supplies to last 50 days. it would be horrible to lose that tradition in baltimore. that's the longest running mounted patrol in the country. >> i didn't know that. >> a will the of people when they go to town, they like to get their pictures taken. >> they're cute. today, all the clouds helped the temperatures in check. not a bad day. we're at 80 degrees right now. don't get used to this. the hottest air is on the way and we'll have the forecast when we come back.

welcome back, everybody, okay, let's get the first warning doppler radar. we have a few showers with a warm front. basically, the thunderstorms are on the virginia side and moving away and they'll move to the south east. this is what we're looking at. it's part of the warm front. it will skim along the state and spotty showers are possible and otherwise, everyone will see clouds. let's switch it over here. a few showers making their way from the ground and the air was dry earlier and most evaporated. , we'll have a better chance of showers making their way to the ground with this batch and again, it's spotty at that. the warm front, as we were saying, it's going to bring a change to the weather pattern. the winds are in the process of

turning to the south and it's kept the temperatures down today. 84 baltimore and 82 in cumberland and 82 in ocean city. >> 83 was the lie and the -- high and the average is 86. we'll look to the records now. so far, we've gotten to 94 degrees. we're going above that. it's all because of this storm here. here's the warm front and here's a cold front part, that will come into play. behind the warm front, this warm air is moving our way and it's breaking records. it's starting to really take over tomorrow afternoon, we'll jump into the 90s and monday, it will peak out before the cold front comes from the north. tuesday, we'll expect the temperatures in the 90s and then, the cold front will push to the south for the middle of the week. the forecast is like this. on the water, small craft advisories tonight and into
