moving east, northeast, some heavy cells with the heavy rain clearing the city from from the bay. heavy stuff approaching the upper eastern shores, cecil county, it's in your neighborhood and will be there for the next hour. it's heading towards salisbury. you can see it's clear out. there could be some showers later on tonight, but right now, looks like a quiet evening. just a few showers beginning to pop up south of washington, you can see some stuff and maybe some more developing over the mountains, we're not done with the shower activity and more developing tomorrow and they can be heavy downpours as well. >> thank you. part two of the weather show with stories of how hurricane bill is effecting the eastern shore. eyewitness news spent the day

in ocean city where dangerous swells are arriving at the beach bringing the danger of rip currents thanks to hurricane bill. more on how hurricane bill is effecting our state. >> bill definitely is going to effect us through weekend. while the storm has weakened, it's down to a category 2. it's making a turn, bermuda to the north, the u.s. eastern coast is there and bill now starting to make a spin to the north and the northeast as a result. what we're watching with the storm is how quickly it moves by, it won't move through with the rip currents, we're looking at the storm moving through as a category two and maybe a category 1 storm. right now bill is sustained 110 mile-per-hour winds and moving

that crashed near the airport. some how the pilot and co-pilot were sitting on a curb near the bus stop. >> i was taken back, how did you walk away? >> the men are severely burn, one has burns over 30% of his body but they're talking. >> i try to get a story but they were in shock. they didn't realize what was going on. >> the twin craft was carrying blood. they were attempting to land in the middle of the night when something went wrong. >> some point down the runway, it attempted to do a go around to abort the landing and during that time, it climbed a little bit and struck a tree and came to rest in the parking lot. >> reporter: this is the same airport where a small plane took off and minutes later crashed with a helicopter over

the hudson killing nine people. federal investigators are on the scene trying to piece together what happened. wjz eyewitness news. the pilot, 54-year-old george is from pennsylvania. the co-pilot -- back behind bars, a prisoner who escaped is caught. more on the charges devin campaign is facing. >> reporter: he was hiding out and was convict on felony theft. a deputy was driving him when he escaped. champagne choked him with the hand cuffs before trying to climb out of the window. a tip led them to a home he was hiding out with his brother. >> thank you.

champagne faces attempted murder charges for the attack on the deputy. >> held without bail. a hate crime beating, two men will stay behind bars, a 17- year-old and a 16-year-old charged as adults for attempted murder. another one was arrested after 76-year-old man was found beat within a bat. a student collapsed at a football practice. we brought you the story first from queen ann's county. more on what happened. >> reporter: a chaotic scene as a dozen or more players fall ill. emergency workers check for signs of heat exhaustion.

police arrest a connecticut man after he steals a boat in broad daylight. you can see the officers are following the boston man up i- 95 near east haven. the suspect started weaving and it flip. the officers have the suspect in custody. a man causes an emergency landing when he takes off his clothes on a southwest airlines flight. it was in route to missouri

when the man exposed himself to the woman sitting next to him and he punch her in the face. he was completely naked during the arrest after the flight. arguments for the upcoming murder trial for casey anthony. she's accuse of killing her two- year-old daughter. they believe newly released photos could change the case against her. >> reporter: if casey anthony's defense team can raise doubts whether haleigh her body were in the woods it could change the case. >> they're important foreseeing the truth whether it's for the defense or the prosecution. we're not taking sides. >> reporter: but the pictures tell a story. >> it shows dense underbrush.

update. home resales have the biggest monthly jump in ten years in july. sales climbed as low mortgage rates and depressed home prices bought out the buyers. they rushed to take advantage of a tax credit that expires this fall. the report was another sign that it's rebounding. a conference in wyoming, he say the economy is about to start growing again. i cautioned it will be a slow recovery. more people out of work means less consumer spending. fewer customers made their ways into stores. southwest is on its way to providing in flight wi-fi on

weather. that's a very dramatic picture. >> it tells a story, there's some areas seeing rain like you wouldn't believe. annapolis has one inch of rain in the last hour. downtown a trace. that's the story. blue sky, clouds. you don't have to drive far to see the difference. first doppler telling the story. you can see it here plain as day. the storms rolled through and came through after 12:00 and moving towards the eastern shore, they've generated storms for many of the areas, it's a developing story, right on down to maryland-delaware line is where you see the thunderstorms. that's case for the next 45 minutes. this is still just kind of ahead of the front moving through tomorrow and as a result, there's watches and warnings in effect this box

here is a severe thunderstorm watch through 9:00. we'll keep you posted. right now, the temperatures are around 74 degrees. a lot of moisture out there still, the humidity at 93%. winds calm but have been coming in from the west, southwest, they have calm down a little. 29.85 and rising. around the state where the rain has fallen and the temperatures have drop, 74 at the airport. look at the eastern shore. 90 in easton. 90 in ocean city. 84. low 70s to around 80 degrees, 84 in the nation's capital. the wind from the west, southwest a ahead of the front moving through tomorrow and with that flow, we're getting warm air in place. the front brings with it cooler air, you can see the front from

texas. on the back edge, we'll see more comfortable conditions. in the meantiming we'll see the showers generated through the evening tonight into tomorrow off and on and some storms, one right behind the other that could generate some flooding. we'll keep you post. it's going to work to keep bill away from us, bill is moving west, northwest at 18 miles per hour and as it does, it's going to be hitting the front and going to be deflected to our northeast. currently the winds are sustain at 100 miles per hour and the storm is down to a category 2 status and moving along the eastern sea board saturday and sunday, generating some rip currents and high surf. 9-15-foot surf and swells along the shore throughout the weekend. we'll keep you post. the front moves through and it's the lesser of the evils,

we'll take the rain as long as we keep a category 2 storm away from us. this is what the we will be dealing with, sunday is nice. looking at sunset at 7:53. small craft advisory through 8:00 and here's the forecast down to 72 degrees, showers with a heavy thunderstorm and that's playing out, tomorrow, 84 degrees, heavy thunderstorms and watch for some flooding as some of the storms set up shop over the neighbor. if you're going to the shore, do yourselves and the life guards a favor, stay out of the water. 70 degrees is the water temperature, but it's going to be a rough time to be in the water. just take heed. >> i hear someone say the waves may be far out, it may not look as dangerous as it is. >> and they come in and carry you out. be careful. >> thank you. don't miss the prime time line

roberts wednesday where witnesses say they saw him. then it's believed he crossed the border on foot. he has a history of violence, in june, he was charged with domestic violence for hitting her. jenkins a reality show contestant reported her missing hours after her body was found. he's been on the run since. >> it's believed he took his father's plane to. >> a florida judge has yet to decide if to show the video of a murder couple in florida. >> it shows what happen the night the couple was kill inside their florida home. external video was release. the billings were well known for adopting and caring for a

dozen children with special needs, newspaper -- 9 of those children were at home at the time. 6 men, a 16-year-old boy and a woman have been arrested in the case. they believe the motive was robbery. police say other arrests are possible. >> a preliminary report on a deadly plane crash in carroll county. two people on board were killed. witnesses saw the plane's engine stop before it crashed. fellow investigators say that some of the control cables were corroded. >> a law firm defending itself from lawsuits following a train collision. one train plowed into another. federal investigation into the cause continues.

>> u.s. officials say that so far there's been no problems with the tests of the new swine flu vaccine. kye has the latest. there's been no serious side effects so far. the vaccine appears to be safe, doctors won't know if it's effective against the swine flu. also tonight, experts warning those in the food service industry to be proactive in protecting themselves against the flu. they think 40% of the workers will get the flu. a medical center in southern california just added a baby to its staff. she's helping doctors and nurses save lives.

approaching dover and some severe warnings for that region through about 5:00, but it's moving quickly to the east as you can see. it's clear the city, clear the bay, rock hall about over up to the east of the region. up to dover, that's where we see some heavy showers and cambridge down to elliot, to the east, that's moving towards salisbury, there's a flood warning from earlier rains, but looking west, more showers developing over west virginia and that's going to get to us later on tonight. we're not out of the woods and probably tomorrow as an actual front moves through, squeezing the moisture out of the atmosphere letting us get into some dryer air by sunday. a great week next week. thank you. let's check on the roads with meredith at traffic control. today is a perfect example

miracle after he survives being struckly lightning. he and a near by tree was struck and his roommate found him unconscience but breathing. the lightning killed a dog living a couple houses down from him. new information about a nightmare flight where passengers were stuck on board the flight and grounded for nearly 12 hours. more on what they're learning. >> fed officials say they pled for hours for the passengers to get off of the plane. it became a 12-hour ordeal after the flight were diverted because of bad weather. they could not leave the plane, the only airline denied their request. they say it's a clear example of why they need a passenger bill of rights.

now, first warning weather, complete forecast and the first warning of severe weather. looking outside, there'sst there's a boater that doesn't worry about the storms. he's having fun today. >> the thunderstorms moved through the region, it's off to

the east. we have a chance of getting more activity because there's another batch to go. that's going to be moving across the mountains, around 8:00 or so. most of the activity is extreme northeast maryland, dover, cambridge, up to wilmington. all that moving quickly to the northeast, there's been some heavy rain and flooding reported in a few spots, but it's quiet right now. one sprinkle or shower. later on tonight, we'll probably see some more moving in. no problem, they've canceled the severe thunderstorm watch. it continues for this area east of the bay until 9:00, they canceled that. look at the temperatures around the airport, temperatures still in the 80s. 90s at some spots.

this region, 76 oakland. packs river 77. rain has dropped the temperatures at some spots. we ha some good showers generally in the 70s . winds south, very light in some spots where they have what the thunderstorms. they've been picking up. this is due to the front that is moving through. it's like a pre-frontal trough and there's a front to the west. we expect to see more activity popping up and because of the orientation, you can see several hours of continuing rain. one thunderstorm after another. that's what we call training thunderstorms. some areas could see two to three inches of rain. it's moving through at a good

clip. later on, i expect to see more rain. it's been downgraded to a category two. moving northwest, a nice quick turn, bermuda hit by some rains and going to make a quick turn, all of the models in agreement by sunday, it will brush through as a tropical storm moves through. by the time it's to our coast, probably a category one storm. the biggest issues is up to 6- 6-12-foot waves. dryer air comes in. next week looking good. still seeing some showers and thunderstorms. some could be local, down to 72 tomorrow with a front in the area and still some heavy
