state. >> fire crews are facing a day of scorching heat, humidity, and struggling to contain at least 11 wildfires, two firefighters were killed on duty this weekend. dozens of homes and camp cabins have already been destroyed and more are threatened. >> a massive wildfire doubled overnight and is heading toward a vital communication center for the los angeles area. firefighters say they are powerless to stop it. >> it's note a matter of, when it will reach the mount wilson communication site. >> the so-called station fire is threat thing transmitters for more than 20tv stations, communications equipment for firefighters and hundreds of homes. >> you can see the smoke there covering the main far there at the highest point of mount wilson. >> it's just one of about a dozen wildfires burning in california, fueled by scorching heat, low humidity and bone dry trees, thousands have been

remember the impact senator ted kennedy had on our country, the late senator is now buried on a gently sloping hillside at arlington national cemetery, not far from his brothers robert and john. maryland lieutenant governor kathleen kennedy towson is sharing her memories of the late senator, she said she remembers not only the public life she grew up with, but also plenty of family fun. >> i remember sailing with my uncle teddy and my father and we were in a race and i was -- it was the three of us, and i was the ballast which for those who aren't sailors, means i was dead weight, to be up at the bow of the boat getting wet for four straight hours. >> kennedy towson admits ted kennedy may have been given the opportunity to become a senator because of his name. while he was there, he did more than any other senator in american history. ann arun dwell county investigators are trying to figure out how a fatal boating

accident occurred on majerle creek. a father and daughter were on the other boat, they were thrown in the water but rescued by nearby boaters, they are said to be okay. a day of hard work by the water goes to waste. a day after the back river cleanup association spent hours clearing trash, they return to find the water an orange color and filled with bottles once again. runoff from saturday night's rain could be one of the reasons, but keeping from happening again has become a priority. outdoors it's a beautiful august day, here's a live look outside, sunny skies, mild temperatures, in fact it's our last day of august today. eyewitness news is live with first warning weather coverage. >> hello, mary and good afternoon, everybody, let's take a look at first warning doppler radar, it's gorgeous in baltimore, we're seeing shower activity passing through portions of southern maryland and the route 50 corridor, lower, slower delaware, let me take you to the state, the

clouds and the moisture, we'll go back a few hours, and there was steady rain this morning. skies cleared out in baltimore, i would say about an hour, hour and a half ago, and we'll continue to slowly clear in the southeast early direction. i want you to look at temperatures overnight, it is a refreshing day, but it's also a day that's going to be 10 degrees below normal, oakland 49 this morning, carlin 55, 62 here on tv hill, ocean city got down to 71, current temperatures have shown a nice rebound, we're only going into the low 70s this afternoon, the next couple days we don't crack 80, for the next few days after that, we don't get too much more than the mid 780s, extremely refreshing you will, and pleasant conditions coming our way as we start september. move toward the labor day holiday weekend. we'll take a look at the caribbean, another weary eye, stay tuned we're coming up shortly.

there's still no answer into what caused an air france plane to crash in june, if investigators ever want to know, they're going to need more money, the plane went down over the atlantic ocean in bad weather, mechanical errors could be to blame. french investigators say they need more money and more resources to continue the search for the aircraft data recorders, a more meticulous search could cost tens of millions of dollars. the space shuttle recovery will work on attaching a robot arm to the international space station. the crews greeted each other, the shuttle will spend more than a week orbiting attached to the complex, the crew is delivering thousands of pounds of new equipment and will perform maintenance work on the outside of the space station. the first of three space walks is planned tomorrow nightment. even after spending eight days lost at sea, a texas man

in today's eyewitness news healthwatch, if you're carrying too much debt, chances are you're carrying too much weight as well. new research indicates over indebted people, those who can't pay off their debts within a reasonable amount of time are about twice as likely to be overweight add the rest of the population, researchers
