baltimore. from the city to the counties to your neighborhood, now complete coverage on wjz 13. maryland's news station. tax scandal, baltimore acorn employees in hot wallet tonight. top local leaders break their silence on the case that has the city outraged. thanks for joining us. i'm adam may. there is more fallout over an undercover videotaped at the baltimore acorn office where employees are accused of give going a prostitution business advice on how to skirt tax laws. suzanne collins is live explaining it's not just the employees, but now the video producers could also face legal problems. >>reporter: acorn says its employees were unprofessional but did not do anything illegal, but it is illegal in maryland to videotape someone without their expressed consent. the undercover video by the independent actors and producer shows him dressed as a pimp and the woman scantily clad. they go into baltimore's acorn

office and ask how they can avoid tax scrutiny in their prostitution business. >>outside the door the girls are coming in. we don't want that to cause any trouble. reporter: employees appear to give in saying the innic can be hidden. acorn gets government grants to help poor people. now republican congressman bartlett is calling for an investigation. democrat elijah cunning says that might be appropriate. >>it doesn't look good when you have an agency and personnel giving what appears to be inappropriate advice on how to deal with taxes and things of that nature. >>reporter: acorn is also getting negative attention in florida after arrests of 11 employees there on charges of

falsifying voter registration cards. they also get tax dollars. >>there are a lot of problems to look into. they get funding from the housing department. at this point we're just really looking into what that means related to the projects now. >>reporter: they say the hidden camera stunt is a smear campaign, but those who produced it could be in more legal trouble than the employees. >>two people taped someone else's conversation secretly. if that is so that would violate the tap statue which is a felony here subject to a five-year penalty. >>reporter: there were similar results in d.c., but they were kicked out of those offices in other states. >>suzanne collins, thank you. the u.s. census bureau was gathering data from acorn, but they've cut those ties since the video surfaced. flu watch report now t h1n1

virus has now claimed the life of a college student. a cornell university student died with complications related to the swine flu. doctors are reminding people that young people are particularly at risk for this virus. >>this particular flu, this pandemic flu virus that has been circulating in the spring and is now in the schools is a virus that's generally a mild disease, but it affects young individuals. every once in a while you get someone who gets seriously ill and dies. >>there's good news when it comes to the vaccine due out in october. it apparently works with one dose, not two as previously predicted. that means twice as many people can get the vaccine. officials say young people and pregnant women will be the priority. president obama held a health care rally in minnesota today. in washington d.c. conservatives held a rally of their own. we have the report there about

the message of the reform plan. it was pretty clear. >>reporter: in obama we don't trust. >>no more lies. >>reporter: that was the generally feeling here among tens of thousands who rallied at the capital. larry smith came from michigan. >>plenty to make for ourselves. they apply it to whatever they think they need to spread it on. reporter: most of the frustration felt here centers on fears about the president involving himself and the government in health care. >>that's 1/6 of the economy that keeps trying to radically change. >>the government is unable to run any money situation, social security, medicare, medicaid, amtrak, they can't run anything at a profit, so how do you think they can run this? reporter: this rally was a sharp contrast to the warm reception president obama received in minnesota at his planned health

[cheering]. >>reporter: the president was upbeet saying the nation is closer to health care reform than ever before. >>we've debated this issue for better than a year now, and there's actually some slid agreement on about 80% of what needs to be done. >>reporter: it's that optimistic message he'll keep delivering to the nation included an appearance on 60 minutes sunday night. >>i have no interest in having a bill get passed that fails, that doesn't work. you know, i intend to be president for a while, and once this bill passes i own it. reporter: but many just aren't buying any of it. in washington, wjz eyewitness news. >>woo quite a few maryland residents took part in the tea party march. coming up we'll have a full report following one group's journey down to the capital. it's been a pretty wet saturday. it still looks kind of drizzly

out there. many are wondering about the football forecast for tomorrow. here's bernadette woods. she has more on that and a look at the live doppler radar. how you doing? >>i'm doing good. i hope yourself too. what's the forecast for tomorrow? before we get to tomorrow, i want to show you right now. there's a little rain drizzle out there. nothing like yesterday. still showers in the passes coming down from the north, circulating around that low that's just offshore. one other thing we want to do is switch this over here for you and you that as far as rainfall totals go it looks like the worst is over with. this is what we're seeing as far as some of our totals on the coast here. areas 3-4 inches. the city got close to 2 inches also. the heaviest is over. we're transitioning into the better weather. we'll have the game day forecast coming up shortly. >>thank you. flames broke out this morning

in northwest baltimore. it was a two alarm fire in springdale avenue. the flames spread quickly on to the second floor, but luckily no one was hurt. an update about a shooting yesterday in baltimore. the young victim has now passed away t victim is 2 # 0-year-old trenton marshall from the rosedale area. sitting near on a bicycle near this bus stop he was shot in the head just as school was letting out. marshall later died at john hopkins hospital. a maryland couple both recovering tonight after a domestic zpult led to gunfire. in frederick they were both shot in a strug and then rushed to the hospital. police are still investigating the cause of the accident. >>the fun is apparently over. the university of maryland is fighting back against its party school reputation. patrol has been doubled in a back to school initiative that

runs until the end of the months. police broke up more than a dozen parties thursday night, confiscated keg and poured out dozens of bottles of liquor. violators could be evicted from their dorms. police get special help from a foundation today. as gigi barnett reports, it was barely large enough to host the blue thunder day. >>it popped up there. it started in my calf muscle and got ripped off. >>reporter: steve tells people his wounded leg is from a shark bite. the real story, a high level drug dealer tried to kill him in august 2007. the chopper 13 was over the scene. >>we had them boxed in. i stepped out, and that's when he decided he didn't want the give up anymore. >>reporter: he spent week inside trauma, months in rehab and returned to the force seven months later, but he says he couldn't have done it without

the help of the signal 13 foundation. they provide assist tons injured officers. that's why steve volunteers for blue thunder day at the racetrack. the event is one of signal 13's largest fundraisers. signal 13 steps up. they know what we can do and provide the funds in the times of need. >>reporter: there's a motorcycle ride, music and entertainment. blue thunder day also remembers officers who didn't survive. mar thatwood and malcolm both lost husbands. they try to help in anyway, including hug. people get upset and come to the booth. if it means taking them aside and talking to them we do that. >>reporter: nearly 300 motorcycle skwuss driving in are all guided. >>we have a little bit of a way to go. >>anything that helps is great. >>reporter: they'll raise more than $100,000.

in baltimore, i'm gigi barnett, wjz eyewitness news. >>a great group. since 1983 they've helped more than 300 city officers wounded in the line of duty. a coaching pioneer was honored today for breaking barrier inside high school spots. parfield high school honored the coach today. she accepted a black honoring her husband. he was the first black basketball coach in the county. he coached basketball and track while his time there. the ravens are getting ready for the first game of the regular season. right here is the only place tomorrow to watch the season opener. the ravens take on the kansas city chiefs tomorrow at 1:00 exclusively right here. by the way t birds are double digit favorites. let's hope that pans out. still to come on wjz eyewitness news tonight, an unsolved mystery. a jail graduate student

. well, just in the last hour some new information from connecticut regarding the search for a missing jail student annie le. sthaer investigating blue prints and surveillance video of a laboratory building where she was last season. fbi agents are questioning an unidentified man. there's no word in he's a suspect. none of the items have been associated with her so far. the young woman disappeared tuesday just days before she was supposed to get married. tonight it appear that is o.j. simpson will stay behind bars as he appeals his conviction in a gunpoint hotel heist. a hearing was held before nevada's high court today to determine whether he can be released. the answer was no. the former football star remains pretty optimistic about getting his conviction overturned. simpson's lawyers maintain he was trying to receive personal items that belonged to him and he didn't know guns were involved in the incident. thousands of conservative

activists gathered at the nation's capital today for a tea party-style party. they were protesting out of control spending. tonight we have the report from where one group joined the masses. >>reporter: they want lower taxes and less government. >>when the government takes all the money then citizens can't do much. >>reporter: in be he will air county some 600 angry americans board buses heading south to d.c. >>we're tired of the government, taxation without representation, and we the people are speaking right now. we will unite the people. we need to get back to the principles of the constitution of the united states and move on. >>reporter: freedom works, the conservative non-profit based in washington and tea party patriots organized the event. >>we're going down there to

protest the taxes, you know, and all that stuff. >>all the stuff trying to get rammed down our throats with the bills and stop pushing socialism. we don't want that. our government works for us. we don't, you know, work for them. >>reporter: protestors tell eyewitness news their other concerns include car company bailouts, the economic stimulus and health care. >>i think health care should be a free enterprise, not a competition and maybe open that up and use that to drive down costs and give people a better choice. >>reporter: the tea party express also hit michigan. in washington state tea partiers dedicate new thrones to leaders. it's the largest gathering of fiscal conservatives on a mission to throw the government under the bus. wjz eyewitness news. >>several republican lawmakers

. now the weather, complete forecast, and a first warning of severe weather. welcome back, everybody. here's a look at this hour. there is the drizzle and rain keeping us cool and working through state. you see how they're rotating out of the north? that's because it's all part of this coastal low we've been dealing with the past couple of days. here's what we have going on at this point. a low coming down from the north at this point. a pretty wet ride at this point. off to the west of that patchy drizzle on to the eastern shore we're looking at a few areas that have been making their way through chestertown and hanging on the coastline here. that's going to move into queenstown. this is earlier today. for the most part we had the clouds around and the occasional drizzle, but now this patch from the north is coming down.

that's the trend for the next few hours. overnight though we'll see improving conditions. winds out of the northwest. that's going to continue into tomorrow also. this is where we really hurt though. 66 degrees is what we're at. 70 in cumberland. 58 degrees in oakland. now, today we got to 67 for our high. the average is 79. not quite there. it's on the way down. tomorrow we're going to be closer to that. the low leaves with high pressure behind it. this is where the dry air. it slowly overtakes tomorrow and into monday. with the sunshine returning our temperatures are going up for tomorrow. the forecast for the overnight and tomorrow, winds out of the northwest at 10 knots. today we're down to about 60 degrees. rain and drizzle out there, also areas of fog. during the day tomorrow we'll see the sunshine return warming up to close to 80 degrees.

. hello, everybody. after being so close yet so far away at ohio state last week today they hosted visiting louisiana tech. late 1st quarter, a 16-yard touchdown. now 14-10. navy is coming back. crossing the burning sands not long afterward. the quarterback with a 3-yard touchdown. that's about 5 minutes left in

the game. in the 4th quarter louisiana tech leads by a score of 32-14. look at the scoreboard from today. morgan state in their season opener on the road in ohio lose to go akron 41 -0. hopkins a winner today. they won 35-31. maryland just getting underway. we'll have highlights tonight at 11. high school football hosting edmonds on the west side. their running back lawrence jackson jr. with a touchdown. it's 21-8. then 27-8 when the quarterback finds brendan hartman. he would not be denied. here's the final score. edmonds loses. a few hours until the ravens 2009 season kicks off. kansas city comes to town tomorrow. keep an eye on larry johnson though. >>he's probably one of the best
