feeling weather. had rain in the forecast. has held out. our s.e.c. on espn matchup's been a dandy so far. if you like fireworks. 34-28, georgia but arkansas back in dog territory. here's a throw to a guy who's wide open. d.j. williams, 30, 20, he night go, williams, out of bounds at about the 2. 40 more yards through the air. >> todd: they did a beautiful job of setting this up. d.j. williams went to the ground. it was a designed play, he goes to the ground and takes himself out. here he is, he's going to dive on the ground and get up and run to the back side of the route and nobody finds him. there he goes, down and everybody flows, get up, go back the other way and again, the height of ryan mallett has no trouble finding him and a big play for d.j. williams. >> brad: first and goal, arkansas trying to regain it is lead. broderick green, lost the ball.
4:32 am
who's got it. flags down. a fumble. >> todd: boy, that looked bad. >> brad: real bad. >> todd: that was a bad exchange between mallett and broderick green. >> brad: the officials are getting a workout tonight, aren't they? >> referee: offside, on the defense, number 95. half the distance to the goal. remains first down. >> brad: jeff owens should have his nose where the football is. it's half the distance to the goal to the 1. where it's first and goal there. jeff, the senior, battled back, injured his knee in the opener. just eight plays into last year's first game. here's green this time. i don't think so.
4:33 am
>> todd: nope. >> brad: let's check in with erin. >> erin: when ryan mallett threw last touchdown pass to childs, willie martinez of georgia pulled his secondary aside and just basically told them, all they have right now are grenades, he's throwing down the field, that's it. that's all they have. just get there, do your assignment, do your job and we're finished with them. >> todd: grenades hurt when they explode, you know? >> brad: they've been exploding pretty regularly. >> todd: yeah. >> brad: green stays in, they bring in the fullback, second and goal 1. another call, this time denied again. by georgia. and that willie martinez defense trying to come up with a goal-line stand. >> todd: boy, back-to-back, two outstanding plays in trenches for georgia. great look at it here from sky kam, right above the action. it's the penetration, the penetration that takes the fullback out of the way and allows those other guys to come in and make the play.
4:34 am
>> brad: this wouldn't shock me if bobby petrino went play action at the 2 yard line. they're not getting anything on ground. >> todd: that, or try to go wide. still have broderick green in, who is the big back, either go wide or play action. >> brad: williams at tie end will move. there is the play fake. there is the throw and there is the touchdown to the tight end. a new school record in touchdown passes by ryan mallett. we seesaw back and forth. the extra point is good, would be our fourth lead change. alex tejada, all-important poinl n

the sideline. n fourth quarter. huskies up by three. corp nearly picked off by mason foster. 41 seconds to go. tied at 13. locker to conference win and a very good day for big east, cincinnati on road wins in oregon state. >> brad: here these dogs are trailing by one. joe cox trying to change that. going deep, got a man. touchdown. >> todd: oh, man. >> brad: orson charles, back-to-back catches, nobody home in the middle of the field,
4:38 am
joe cox has thrown his fourth touchdown pass. >> todd: orson charles has caught two passes on basically exact same route, working against terrell williams, true freshman linebackerer, jerry franklin kicked out earlier for the flagrant penalties and his replacement, true freshman just gave up a big touchdown. >> brad: 40-35 with a two-point attempt by georgia upcoming again. moob is down, a.j. green in tight on a wing. always have to know where 8 and 82 are. and branden smith is in there as well. >> referee: prior to the snap,
4:39 am
deleif game, on the offense, five-yard penalty, replay. >> brad: every time they try to go for a two-point conversion something goes haywire. the 11th penalty against georgia. and this time they're going to stay determined to the cause and try to get the two-pointer from the 8 yard line. remember last time they had a holding call, this time just a false start, so five instead of ten. they'll take a crack at it. >> todd: green up at the top. >> brad: richard samuel, tailback, split as third wide receiver, cox to the corner to green and he's got him. two-pointer. you might as well chalk that up as another touchdown for joe cox. >> todd: just a beautiful throw and great communication between cox and a.j. green. a.j. green shows slant, that forces the corner to protect the
4:40 am
inside and the throw is to the back pylon and is beautiful to watch. let's go back to the touchdown first. back-to-back catches for orson charles, true freshman tight end. he's going to run right down the middle and the linebacker trying to stay with him, terrell williams, a true freshman, trails him, no idea where the ball is until it's too late and orson on back-to-back throws on the same route gets it into the end zone for georgia. he's a big receiver, 6'3", 230 pounds out of tampa plant high school and big-time receiver. and then two-point conversion, just beautiful execution by cox and a.j. green. >> brad: do you realize we have two quarterbacks, one who is making hisz fifth start ever, three of them were at michigan before transferring, joe cox making his fourth start for georgia ever, and we got nine touchdown passes between these
4:41 am
two guys. this is crazy. >> todd: what you call a shootout. an old-fashioned shootout. >> brad: the folks at razorback stadium are getting their money's worth and this is the fifth-largest crowd ever in this place, 74,210 have packed the place tonight, and we have seen it all. dennis johnson will field this one with his left foot at the goal line. and across the 25, buried at the 28 yard line. >> todd: we talked about the fireworks in this game, both quarterbacks having amazing nights. big place. each team with three place of 40 or more yards. that is just, those are the kind you don't mind paying for a ticket. >> brad: you got right. >> todd: or having our job. my goodness. >> brad: fifth lead change
4:42 am
tonight, four of them in this quarter. and we still got 4:26 remaininging, so we'll probably have enough one, although this next time, if arkansas scores, it might be a tie game. we got 20 minutes of serious football left. mallett, stands tall and throws low but joe adams made the catch. >> todd: again, mallett under pressure, not able to step into the throw but plenty enough arm to hit deep crossing route. justin houston and abry jones getting pressure on the quarterback but watch, off the back foot. still able to get the throw out there. >> brad: so, another first down. just on the arkansas side of the 50. and the officials -- they're going to tick a look at joe adams' catch again. i thought he dug it out before
4:43 am
it hit the turf but this will gifl us a better angle. i still think he got it. >> todd: ruled a catch on the field. >> brad: joe's had at least one catch in every game of his career, this being 14 now. and we think that one's going to hold up as well. last, two weeks ago i should say, against missouri state was first time an arkansas team had thrown for over -- ryan mallett, on his way to go do it by himself, one came up with -- right now mallett 17 out of 24, 341 yards and five touchdown passes. >> todd: we talked about the change and why this fan base is so excited, because of the quick strike different kwiend of offense and what they've been used to -- >> referee: after further review, the ruling on field has been confirmed. first down. >> todd: this is 14th game under
4:44 am
bobby petrino and six out of 14, arkansas has thrown for over 300 yards. prior to that, only 16 times in school history had arkansas thrown for over 300 yards. so, it's a whole new ear raf arkansas football. >> brad: first down, just on the arkansas side of the 50 for the razorbacks. here's the toss, submit almost stumbled on his own, regained stumbled on his own, regained his footin (hissssssssssss!)
4:45 am
enterprise... hi, i'm at the repair shop. i need to rent a car. enterprise will arrange to pick you up... this is great! ...drive you to our place, and get you on your way. pick enterprise. we'll pick you up. you want to keep your loved ones safe and secure. give them the gift of financial security from new york life. we've been protecting families for over 164 years. new york life. the company you keep.
4:47 am
the sideline. fourth quarter. huskies up by three. corp nearly picked off by mason foster. 41 seconds to go. tied at 13. locker to brl have their hands full with the passing game of arkansas, probably tell you that much. here's ryan mallett loading and firing far side. strike to adams and again that long throw all of the way to the other side of the field >> todd: did you see how shet his feet that time? he sidestepped some rush in the
4:48 am
pocket. vet his feet and then was able to step into this throw and deliver a strike. watch. little sidestep and all kind of arm to make that throw. but when you're backing up or throwing off the back foot, hard to be consistent. >> brad: five touchdowns for ryan mallett. real go over 400 yards passing by himself at this point. not here. to smith, almost snapped it out of there, nine yards, brandon boykin holding on for dear life with marcus dowtin. >> todd: of mix of how ryan mallett ended up here, perfect fit for bobby petrino and his offense. bobby petrino is a guy who likes his quarterback in the shotgun but also like him to be under center and running plays and do play action. he did a lot of that, ryan mallett did, at michigan and he was well coached. scott loeffler the quarterback coach did a great job with him.
4:49 am
>> brad: almost stum bd and now too high for jarius wright. he grew up around here, always wanted to be a razorback but at the time houston nutt was here, mitch mustain had not transferred yet. goes to michigan, played for chad henne and rich raurg goes to michigan and i'm 6'7" not going to run the spread. so, everything fell into play. the smile on his face when we talked to him yesterday pretty much said it all. he's having fun tonight but right now his team is down 11. third down and a yard. they're 0 for 2 on third and one tonight. so short yardage hasn't been their best friend. see if they get it. smith and he got it. and popped out of there, michael smith, weaving his way down to the 12 yard line. best run of the night by the little guy. >> todd: how much confidence do you have in michael smith?
4:50 am
third and short, you have not made it on a couple occasions tonight. he's your smallest tailback but you have trust that he will get your first down. tux behind the linemen, bounces off an arm tackle and turns a short run that a big-time play for the arkansas offense. >> brad: turns it that a 23-yarder and they're knocking on the doghouse again down there against georgia's defense. we're under ten minutes, in fact, approaching nine minutes. arkansas needs a couple of scores. mallett, to smith again. and he's dropped at the line of scrimmage and justin houston with the tackle for georgia defensively. >> todd: i made the point that when ryan mallett was at michigan, his quarterback coach was scott loeffler, an outstapding coach. he, ironicallies quarterback coach at florida and worked with tim dete bow and florida has not done a whole lot with the quarterback under center but part of the reason loeffler was
4:51 am
to help him transition into more conventional offense. >> brad: second down and ten. cobi hamilton, freshman, throwing to the end zone, incomplete. d.j. williams, intended receiver. check in with erin. f final decision for ryan mallett to come to arkansas may not have happened unless mrs. mallett had that conversation with brian brohm's mom. the family not sure if they wanted their son to commit to coming here because talk of the falcons and him leaving louisvilles, the malletts got on the phone with the brohm family and said if i would do it again i would stick with bobby petrino. >> brad: now, ryan mallett is looking like a taller version of brian brohm in this game. big third down right here, although it's two downs all of the way i'm sure for the arkansas raeshgs.
4:52 am
mallett in trouble, got away will slide. short of the first down by about three. so it's fourth down and the first down would come at the 2 yard line. so they bring in michael smith, d.j. williams comes back in. >> todd: the end of the play, after the slide, he was complaining helmet to helmet hit. i think that was a good no call. i think the defender tried to pull off at the end. >> brad: knowing they need two scores, they'll try to get one here and worry about the eight-point difference later. tejada hit a 23
4:53 am
hi, it's jimmy football here. nobody likes number 2. so we just upgraded you to number 1. introducing the bud light foozie! it's a foam finger. it's a can coozie. boom. whoa. s-stamp. it's the foozie! we love the foozie. thanks, bud light. ( cheering ) it's the bud light foozie and it's... tailgate tested! tailgate approved!
4:55 am
( crash ) sorry! the more you save on insurance, the more you'll have for football. are you in good hands? the sideline. fourth quarter. huskies up by three. corp nearly picked off by mason foster. 41 seconds to go. tied at 13. locker to final after spoer"sportscenter" tonight. >> brad: 2:05 remaining. ryan mallett, in the pocket, some pressure again and penalty marker down. see if it's a holding call. it is. that pocket was collapsing in a hurry again. that's the 11th penalty against arkansas. both teams in double digits in penalty department. after the game, reaction to
4:56 am
washington's upset of usc today. building heisman hype, major league baseball's playoff push. all that and more on "sportscent are" when we are through. >> todd: one thing we saw today for sure, that is those two young protegees of pete carroll, steve sarkisian and lane kiffin both can coach a little football. kiffin didn't win but they played better against flor dan than i think anybody thought they would today. >> brad: mallett almost got childs right there. brandon smith, freshman covering him. appears that his first s.e.c. game in that arkansas uniform, though brilliant stats, especially in the first half is going to be nor naught unless he pulse a hog out hat here in the last 1:47. you think joe cox will be happy going back to athens? i don't think he'll have a bad week where he hopes nothing will
4:57 am
happen. probably turn his quell phone on, ryan mallett down again, justin houston brings him down. >> todd: this is good downfield coverage. georgia dropping seven and eight guys, taking away all of the easy throws for ryan mallett and then in doing so, three-man rush, able to get to the quarterback. >> brad: third down and a bunch. third and 19. mallett steps up and goes deep on the sideline and incomplete and might be the last down right here for arkansas. and it's not going to get any easier, that's for sure. at alabama texas a & m, sign a long deal they'll play with a & m every season. auburn, at florida, at ole miss, number one and number five. so there is three times in the top five they're going to have to face between now and october
4:58 am
24th >> todd: that is a brutal, brutal stretch. and then on top of that, not just that they play 11 straight weeks, starting tonight. >> brad: th buyer week already behind them, it was last week. mallett down the middle, crossing route and this time, michael smith, but it's not enough and it's too late and with 59 seconds to go, georgia knows now they'll have a big win on road. in conference play. >> brad: that's not a rare thing for georgia under mark richt. >> todd: a tremendous road team and it's -- it's impressive. that's not an easy thing to do but they have got great confidence when they leave athens and gone on the road. >> brad: 31-5 on the road and 25-4 in s.e.c. play and again, we said that doesn't count the florida game because it's a quote, unquote neutral site. joe cox takes a knee. arkansas can stop it one more
4:59 am
time if they choose to. and i think bobby petrino knows it's over and maybe won't stop it. there is mark richt's numbers, headset can come off. and a sad finish to a brilliant performance by the tall, lanky quarterback of the razorbacks. we talked with joe cox about how he wanted to have a quiet week, it will be a noisy plane ride home, i'm sure. he told us, when you play quarterback at georgia you really don't know what it's all about and how crazy it is until you go through it. well, he's been through three tough weeks. and he came out smelling like a rose tonight. that's for sure. georgia wins on the road in a thrilling s.e.c. battle on espn between the razorbacks and the bulldogs. the dogs at least tonight,en to the hogck. thanks nor watching.
