>> welcome to guinness happy hour. >> four sportswriters looking to get after it. today, jerry jones' faith in tony romo, michael jordan and bryon russell playing one-on-one, and the longest shot in basketball history! two-camera shoot. look at that. >> i don't care, one camera stinks. >> let's roll it. >> it's "around the horn," presented by guinness. here's tony reali. >> welcome back to our seven-camera shoot. let's meet the man hiding camera one, bill plaschke. >> what was that thing you did in the intro? >> woody paige. >> tony, it's always darkest just before the dawn.
5:02 pm
that's when i steal my neighbor's denver post. >> cowlishaw? >> how many people are tired of plaschke in the showdown? let's see hands. >> you have two hands. ok. >> kickboxing. >> you don't use your hands to kick box. >> let's go to work. all right. jerry jones heard what you people said about tony romo and he begs to differ. he says he has all the confidence in the world in him and he likes him for his bounceback ability. now that's one opinion. another, cowboy hall of famer tony dorsett, who told fox sports raid, "i don't know why on god's earth tony romo has been a911 -- anointed a superstar. he hasn't gotten through his growing curve jlts who do you side with? >> if i have to pick one i'd
5:03 pm
side with tony dorsett. although here some even want jon kitna out there. it's not even near that but dorsett is right about the growing curve. we're not seeing a curve. he was as good his first five or six games as a quarterback last year as he was last year at the start of this year. he was probably better his first 20 games than his last 20 games. it's hard to say, yeah, he's going to bounce back. he might bounce back next week but what about in december? >> tim, you are too far from the forest to see the trees. he was 21-14 in his first starts and that's better than oh, troy aikman, better than roger staubach. he's winning 60% of his games, he's in the top five of the nfl
5:04 pm
among quarterbacks in their first 21 starts. you at least have to get him through this year and you also have to consider that the cowboys' defense in the first two games ranks at the bottom of the nfl and you have wade phillips as a coach who doesn't understand -- hasn't understood >> a lot of information, but romo not as good in his first 21 starts as staubach. >> woody is right about the aikman comparison. obviously he went on to be a great quarterback and romo has a chans to do that. but you have to look at the stats. he hasn't one in the postseason and that's what it's all about, especially in dallas. with kitna behind him, you can't possibly bail on him. that's insane. he does need to work on getting down on interceptions.
5:05 pm
>> everybody get off his back. he's 28-13 as a starter. that's the fifth best record among super bowl era quarterbacks in his first 21 starts. i realize between december and january he stinks. maybe you give him one more but don't go craze on him now. woody is right. if you look at the stats he's thrown for more touchdowns, more yards and better completion percentage than both aikman and staubach after 41 starts. woody is right. give him more time. >> that's not what's happening in dallas, is it? >> no, it's not. troy aikman was the number one overwhelm pick. that told you what the potential was. number two, he was the number one overall pick. he took over a team that stunk. of course romo has a better record after 40 games. >> you guys in dallas get rid of him. whoa, let's trade him for kyle
5:06 pm
orton like the broncos did. when you have a franchise quarterback you go with him. he's had 2,000 more yards from his career than staubach did at this juncture. >> the thing i like about romo is when he makes mistakes he takes sfont for it and says i'm going to do better. >> what's up with tony dorsett coming out of nowhere firing these zings, where's he been? >> a tv commercial or something have joe, q.b. controversy in dallas but there might be one in kansas city. matt cassel not great this week but he's still coming back for a knee gyre, yet there was his coach todd haley at a podium yelled saying he'll do whatever is best for his team. is hail illinois creating a quarterback controversy? >> yes, he is. he's a bill parcells di sipple
5:07 pm
and he was there when parcells would bench his quarterbacks. you're not parcells, you don't have that credibility yet. you have the third youngesto team in the league. a team that went through three starting quarterbacks last year. he's started one game and already you're questioning him? your players in the locker room hear this. this is not good for the team. you ain't parcells yet. go with this guy and see how far he can take you. >> that's not what he was saying. what he said is he was going to go with a guy who was going to help him win. that's exactly what the guys in the locker room should be herring, that nobody is unit be untouchle, the including the guy that you gave $28 million guaranteed money to. the sample on cassel is so small, what knows what kind of quarterback he truly is?
5:08 pm
he had one year with the patriots and he had the best receiver in randy moss to throw to. >> let's talk about the sample of brody croyle. 0-9 as a starter and this is the guy you're talking about, if he struggles a little bit we're going to bring him in. >> i did he ever said that. >> the guy's never won a game. he's now 10-6 as a starter. i think that's better than 0-9. why would he do this? they invested $63 million in him. he's the guy whosms supposed to lead him and you're already saying oh, we may have to take him out. >> i'm not saying that. nobody's saying that. >> the 63 million investment came before todd haley got there. the quarterback controversy was created when they signed cassel to that kind of contract without him even proving himself.
5:09 pm
all haley is saying is i'm going to go with the guy eventually who's best. you're right, he has been around some of those moves. bledsoe to romo. those moves were controversial at the time. >> i'm not saying replace matt cassel. it's not like haley is talking about a guy that's been entrenched in the nfl for 10 years. what he's saying is every place on my team is an open competition. >> is there not pressure to play the man you paid for this off-season? >> it's got nothing to do with money, it's got to bo -- do with trust. they need a leader in that locker room. i disagree with you. >> he was injured through the preseason and why not give him a chance before you start creating a controversy there. when you're trying to develop

>> zack greinke has been the best pitcher in baseball by a lot. pitching in this league with a 2.00 e.r.a. is absurd. this could be 100%. i'm making it 100%. >> no. >> it should be but people are going to do what you do. sabathia has 20 wins. you're going to reward sabathia for having better teammates? >> 15 is a low number. what's next? >> what am i supposed to put, should be? should be 100%. next, chances the lions snap their 19-game losing streak and beat the redskins this week? >> if they do, everyone in washington will wonder when is jim zorn going to be fired. that would be a devastating loss. i don't think it's going to happen. the redskins have far, far more talent than detroit and they are very good where detroit is bad, on defense at the moment. i give this no more than a

10% shot of the redskins losing. >> really? i think every game in the league is almost 50-50. i want to salk -- talk about sonny jurgensen going after zorn last week. how was that? there are no upsets in this league. >> so if oakland were to beat the new york jeeths giants, it would not be an upset? really? >> lock that down at 49%. >> chances texas a&m basketball shot is legit? >> is first time i saw this i was convinced it was not legit. but this is a group of guys called the dudes or something. what they do is practice crazy shots all the time. they've got me almost convinced. i give them the benefit of the doubt. i go as high as 70% now.
5:52 pm
>> you can check them out at dudes something or another dot-com. >> what is it? >> i don't know. 0%. there's no chance that that's real. i don't care how good they are or how much they practice it. 0% chance that is not special effects. >> 0? no, no. they practice a lot of shots. 07%. >> zero. >> this is why we don't have nice stuff. because you have negative zero here. very brilliant, dan. >> what's that check mark mean? >> next, chances that meyer and kiffin will stop their yapping? >> he reached out to him today and basically said enough is enough, right, guys? it's not enough for lane kiffin. kiffin has been brilliant in this. he's the number eight or nine guy in the league and he goes after the number one guy like a fly in the elephant and the elephant
5:53 pm
responds. meyer has made a ridiculous mistake in letting kiffin gets under his skin so even if meyer stops, kiffin will not. 0% chance it will not stop. >> all it takes is one syllable from one of the guys and the other guy will come over the top with an aver lancht i agree, 0%. has there ever been a did you elling 0%? >> it's the double squadoosh. when deciding the oddsmaker, it's important to visks it as a whole. i don't need to do that. dan loses, it's over. >> that's it. time for a break now that dan has sweated through 75% of his shirt. but on the way, a happy 60th birthday tribute to the boss. >> and the yankees are back in the playoffs. go ahead and rejoice, kornheiser.

you got to keep him. you don't want to seat the -- eat the 20 million. he's valuable if he hits. >> happy trails to curt schilling's senate bid. schilling told joe buck last night that he will not run for the office that opened up with the passing of teddy kennedy. schilling indicated his wife was not energized by the idea. would you have the guts to run for office, danny? >> absolutely not. you got reporters, you know, going through your bedroom. you don't want any of that. >> keep them in the den. time to find out what we messed up, reali? >> just so we're clear, the dudes who shot the video, the basketball shot that dan gave minus 0% chance of being rule, dudeperfect.com. only the goalie retired. >> i really liked him. he was classy. no matter what happened in the game he would met with the press for an hour. really goodrunning out of time. old school "big finish." guy. the yankees clinched a playoff spot last night but didn't celebrate. ok by you? >> of course. this is nothing to celebrate.
