extension after which he would be a consultant for the team. >> hi everybody. welcome to "sportscenter." larry king later on. you got the suspenders? >> not so much. works for you though. first though very interesting weekend at quarterback. >> when michael vick was signed by the eagles, you wondered how it would turn out. you can only imagine how michael vick must feel right now. this afternoon vick out at practice for the first time knowing that this weekend he is eligible to play at the chiefs. situation up in the air as donovan mcnabb continues to heal from that fractured rib. >> donovan will not practice this afternoon. he is making progress and we will see how he does as we go through this week. he is able to throw. not with great velocity or length, but he has thrown.

if he can function and not be in danger of playing the game and can keep himself out of danger then he can play. if not, he can't. >> sal paolantonio is in philly with the eagles. sal, this day has been a long time coming for michael vick, right? >> absolutely. for the eagles specifically and michael vick this has been six weeks since he has been signed by the philadelphia eagles. a lot has transpired between the city and the franchise of michael vick to get him to this point. then we are about 40 members of the media gathered outside of his locker waiting for him to speak prior to go on to the practice field. vick gets out there with a big smile on his face and he looked around to all of the reporters and said i can't believe i am talking to you guys. >> it is very exciting to have an opportunity to go out there

and just play football. regardless of my role or what i am going to be doing. to suit up and play in the game when it counts. i have been watching football from afar the last two years. this is a dream come true season for me. in my eyes i have already won the super bowl. nothing going to change about me on the field. i am going to try to be dynamic in whatever way i can and not do too much. understanding that superman may not be ready to return as of right now but he will be in the future. >> a lot has gone into preparing michael vick for this on the field and off the field. on the field vick said early on he was tired and out of shape. now he feels like the last two weeks he has been able to get into football shape. off the field, yesterday he met with community groups out in north philadelphia. today, as he was on the practice field getting ready for his first meaningful game animal

rights group were meeting with the eagles to talk about just what extent there will be animal rights protests on sunday when the chiefs come in here to lincoln financial field. >> how much do you think michael vick -- how much playing time will he see on sunday? >> andy reid tried to be really coy. first he said he wouldn't commit and then said he wasn't sure michael vick would play at all. too much time and emotion has been invested by vick, this community and franchise to prepare him to get to this point and not have him play. i believe they are preparing anywhere from 10 to 12 snaps, mostly in the wildcat and maybe in the shotgun. you will see vick on the field against the chiefs on sunday. >> sal paolantonio reporting from philadelphia. now the eagles could have one of four quarterbacks at their disposal sunday against the chiefs. could be kevin colb.

how about michael vick. is it jeff garcia? herm edwards on how he sees the eagles quarterback situation playing out. >> if i am the head coach of the eagles, i am starting kevin kolb. he basically did a great job last week. three-point game going into halftime. he threw it fairly well down the field which he can do. he is athletic with a strong arm. the concern is that he turns the ball over. talking about michael vick, michael vick has to play a role on this football team. he is not ready to play a traditional quarterback position right now. tom brady was a year away out of football. he looks rusty. michael vick has been out of football for two years. you have to give him a chance to really start playing. this is his first real game and i think he is not ready to play quarterback and that is why kevin kolb is the starter.

>> brian westbrook is suffering from a sprained ankle but hopeful he can go against the chiefs as well. andy reid said the ankles very swollen and no decision has been made until the end of the week. tom brady blitzed heavily by the jets. patriots were shutout in the second half and lose to a divisional rival. here is brady today on new england's rocky start. >> losing around here is not fun for any of us. we set a pretty high standard. you are just trying to evaluate where the problems are and what you need to do better. we are all trying to understand the reasons why we have not performed as well as we would like in the last two games. there are a number of reasons. the only thing we can focus on as players is what we can do. i can certainly make better decisions with the ball and throw it more accurately.

that is where it starts for me. >> tom brady has thrown 100 passes in the first two games of the season. some of the names up there, not the guys with the best seasons of them all. previous high in his first two games, 82 attempts. >> for tom brady, what do you expect from tom? you think back to last year. peyton manning getting off of his injury. they struggled early. it was just a matter of all of the choreograph and he the dance steps going on with offensive football that are so particular. teams struggle when guys have been gone for a little while. it will be a work in progress. they will get protected better and play better. look for them to smooth it out. by the end of the year they will be one of the better offenses in the league.
