homes shows how critical it is to be prepared for the disaster. rescuers are hearing the message loud and clear. live at a disaster drill. >> reporter: good afternoon. public work authorities admit it could happen again. if it does or any other type of disaster, baltimore pants to make sure that residents have instant relief. thursday morning, a drill to answer a question on everyone's mind after a water main break happened. what if it happens again? >> it depends upon the disaster. the plan we're following, it provides enough for 5,000 people per day. >> the wal-mart is the commodity point of

distributing. >> there's everything cones need to use any time there's a disaster. >> in c-pod was not open this week. >> it was a smaller area of only a few streets and neighborhoods we were able to go house to house with the supplies. >> reporter: over a hundred households struggling to rebuild as crews tackle repairs. workers here will practice just in case. baltimore is opening a disaster recovery center this saturday all day, residents can speak with several state agents about what to do next. wjz eyewitness new. >> thank you. crews expect the repair war in iraq to continue for the next three to four weeks. we have just learned who will fill the senate seat vacated by ted kennedy.

good afternoon, ron. >> reporter: a friend and colleague will temporary fill ted kennedy's seat. paul kirk was nominate to the post. a boston attorney was close friends to the senator and according to an aid is knowledgeable and supportive of ted kennedy's work. he will hold the seat until january 19th when voters elect a permanent replacement. both sons lobbied for this appointment. >> kennedy died after a year long batter with brain cancer. leaders of the world's largest economies are traveling from new york to pittsburgh for the g-20 summit. hoping to prevent a meltdown like the one we've been experiencing over the past year. protesters have a different agenda. >> downtown pittsburgh looks like it's bracing for a hurricane. most small businesses have decided to close up shop before

without two-party consent. they have filed a multimillion dollars lawsuit against the people who posted the video. we're learning about a police-involved shooting. the two officers who shot a suicidal man yesterday have been on the force for less than two years. he approached with an edged weapon, it was a spatula. prosecutors and police in annapolis rounding up repeat offenders and could face lengthy prison time. the first call in was a wakeup call for many including one of the offenders. he was arrested on the spot for carrying a knife. it's part of the capital city's safe street program. a northwest baltimore row home caught on fire this

morning. on west 41st street this morning. nobody was injured. investigators trying to figure out what caused the fire. the day started off steamy and still feels like summer. looking outside, cloud cover with a peek of sunshine around downtown baltimore. we're live with first warning weather coverage. marty has weather. >> reporter: good afternoon. when the sun comes out, it gets steamy. you know i love a lab top -- rag top day. the rag top was closed and the ac was on. looking at the photo, a little bit of moisture creeping through overnight. it's been clouds and every once in a while, some sun which is trying to breed a couple showers around the area. look at how steamy it is. the dew point at 68. it gets uncomfortable.
