a baltimore teen dies days after being diagnosed. protecting you and your family. hello i'm don scoot. >> i'm mary bubala. the young spent days in the hospital prior to her death due to the swine flu. in the flu watch report, vic carter said this is the second child to fall victim to the virus in just one week.

and it was confirmed that destiny parker died on tuesday evening. the student was hospitalized last week ill with the h1n1 virus. >> i looked at her, to stand a couple feet away from my niece, i see the machine doing the breathing, my heart was crushed. >> reporter: she made a frantic call phone call when she collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. >> tests were run. they were told she had h1n1. our hearts stopped. >> the cause of death is not known, her death would be the ninth in maryland associated with the swine flu and the second child. another age and defend remember not being released, fell ill with the virus and died on friday.

samoa. a earthquake triggered the walls of water and killed many and others are missing. we have the latest. >> reporter: the tsunami leveled samoa and american samoa. >> reporter: the waves up to 20 feet high slammed the islands. many people living there were swept out to sea. >> the death stole 100. with many still missing it is expected to rise. debris is scattered for miles. >> trees, cars, boats, floating past the window. >> a 8 earthquake struck between samoa and american samoa, a string of islands between hawaii and australia. that triggered the tsunami. it alerted people to get to higher ground. many could not escape. >> you can see the bridge that is wiped out by the waves. >> it could be weeks before the power is restored.

it is so bad the president declared a disaster for american samoa. a territory with 65,000 residents. water has made it difficult for rescuers to get in and search for survivors. weather coverage continues with bernadette woods. she has more on a earthquake in the region and why it did not cause a tsunami-like -- a tsunami like yesterday. >> in the last 24 hours, there was another earthquake. it was another strong one. a 7.9. it brought back a lot of memories that killed over 230,000 people. the difference between this one and the recent one that happened in samoa or the past one in indonesia has to do with the depth of the earthquake. the with unin indonesia preliminarily is a 7.9 on the magnitude scale but 50 miles

there has been a ninth death from the h1n1 virus. a teen from baltimore, complete flu watch coverage now with derek valcourt who has finished speaking with the governor. >> reporter: good afternoon. the reaction and we have new comments from the city school ceo and a statement as they learn about the second death from the rapidly spreading virus in just one week.
