biggest change, texting while driving. >> reporter: good afternoon. whipping out your cell phone to text while driving is considered a no-no. a police officer can pull you over if they see you doing it. people have died while texting and driving. it is no wonder that are you going 65 miles per hour and it is like closing your eyes when you drive. drunk drivers had more skills behind the wheel than a texter. >> one second can cost you your life or you could hurt someone else. this is one more reminder. it is a message for all of us to pay attention. >> reporter: remember, if you are seen texting, you could be pulled over. >> while you are in the vehicle and moving, even at a red light, you are not allowed to be texting. >> reporter: some welcome the change. >> it is a great idea. it will promote more safety.

you cannot go wrong for safety. >> reporter: the state of maryland says on average they lose 600 people per year due to car crashes. when you take this out of the equation, they hope some of the death numbers go down. i'm mike schuh, wjz 13 news. now back to you on tv hill. lots of measures are meant to increase safety on the roads. the latest change is targeting teenagers. as of today, the time frame teenagers get the learner's permit is up to nine months for a minimum. speeding through maryland is hard to do thanks to speed cameras. one at north charles street and one at white marsh and one at 198 and 216 in prince george's county. two school age children have died from the h1n1 virus

in maryland. today, there are new developments from the battle against the swine flu. we have sally thorner with the latest. >> reporter: vaccinations will begin on monday in the city and county. school children get get the vaccine first. pregnant women and those caring for others will likely get the shots first. if you are not considered to be high risk, you are asked to get vaccine in the later rounds at your doctors office. >> there is no cost for the vaccine, but some doctors are likely to charge a fee. stay with us for the latest information from the cdc. log on to wjz.com. a developing story this noon. baltimore county police investigating a murder in randallstown. rodney lewis was found dead in the 9500 block of liberty road.

the 55-year-old was discovered by a house mate in a pool of blood in the kitchen. lewis was stabbed to death. his lincoln was missing from the scene, but the suv has now been found in the city. we will continue to follow that story and update you later today. this noon, several people, including a city firefighter are recovering from a fire. flames broke out in the 4200 block of sheldon avenue. two people were transported to the hospital. a second earthquake has hit indonesia bringing down more buildings. thousands are feared dead after a tsunami after the earthquake yesterday. karen brown reports. >> reporter: rescue workers rushing against time and pulled this woman out of the rubble. crews search for thousands

still missing after two major earthquakes hit indonesia. this morning, the 6.8 quake hit miles from the wednesday's quake of 7.6. in the city of padang, hundreds of people ran for their lives. at least 500 are dead, but it may take days before the extent of the damage is known. emergency shelters were opened to give refuge to tens of thousands. the earthquakes come a day after the massive quake that triggered a tsunami in the south pacific. rescuers are searching for victims in the south pacific on the island of samoa. at least 150 people are dead. this new zealand school teacher was in a truck trying to outrun the wall of water. >> i don't know. i just popped out. >> reporter: she is not sure if

any of the children made it out alive. the task of cleaning up is daunting. the tsunami pushed boats out of the ocean and destroyed countless homes. emergency aid is on the way for the people in the samoan islands, it cannot come fast enough. karen brown, cbs news. >> there were a series of earthquakes in california today. those came in at 5.1. back here in our area, we are dealing with some cool temperatures. if you have not been outside today, you know what we are talking about. it has shaped up to be a beautiful fall afternoon. we are live with first warning weather coverage. marty is in the outback. is it nice? >> it is not bad. delightful. >> it looks nice. we will check in with tim williams in the first warning

there are new developments in the case involving casey anthony. her defense team is ask a judge to dismiss murder and child abuse charges. the 23-year-old mother is accused of killing her daughter caylee. anthony's lawyer say there is a lack of physical evidence in the case. a florida woman is fighting for her life after getting liposuction. investigators say she had a procedure at the westin spa and went brain dead. at this hour, high-stake talks are under way with iran. the united states and five

we have a disturbance that is moving in from the west and midwest. that will bring us a chance of showers later in the evening tomorrow and through saturday. as marty said, saturday is not the prettiest day. this disturbance is part of a cold front and low pressure system with it. it is all rolling in tomorrow afternoon. warm front is leading the way. the disturbance is trailing it. the high pressure is responsible for the dry and clear conditions now. the front well take a while to get -- will take a while to get here. tomorrow evening late and saturday morning, we will have scattered showers. we will have a chance of rain lingering through the day. we will have clearing on sunday. the clearing stays with us through the beginning of the week. the sunset is at 6:48. the winds are from the northwest shifting to the south. the next high tide is at 5:52.

in our health watch report, we are learning more about the h1n1 virus. we have kelly lynn with more. >> reporter: thank you. u.s. officials are gaining more information into how the h1n1 virus may turn deadly. many people who have died from the virus also had bacterial infections. a study of 77 patients who died, 20% of them had bacterial
