strike local schools. tonight, when will the vaccine arrive in maryland and are hospitals ready to handle an outbreak? hello, i'm vic carter. >> and i'm denise koch. >> more kids are showing up sick to school and the vaccine is not available. why there are new concerns if an outbreak hits. >> reporter: tonight, there are serious concerns of a big demand but short supply of hospital beds. the first day of october brings great weather and grave concerns throughout maryland. there could be a shortage of hospital beds if the h1n1 virus

spreads rapidly. >> if the virus spreads so quickly, you know, and the hospitals are overcome, what do you do then? that's the question. >> reporter: to deal with overcrowding, hospitals are supposed to have what is known as surres plans. >> we have partnered with other hospitals to make sure we have the beds and the medications and supplies that we need to deal with any kinds of a significant outbreak. >> reporter: fear of the outbreak is large. on tuesday, a 14-year-old girl destiny parker died from the virus. leaving parents and those in the school system stunned. >> the maryland health officials say the first dozes of h1n1 vaccines will be a nasal spray. and available to children over 2 years old and young adults up

year. piecing together cell phone records between the boyfriend and girlfriend. and now tonight, he is finally charged here in baltimore county because this is where the body was found. >> reporter: for almost a year the family of mia nicoles had wondered what happened to mia. >> we thought maybe she got into an argument with a friend and went out. >> reporter: dental records confirmed the worse. >> she was shot, see i didn't know. i didn't know that. and it's very sad to hear something like that. >> reporter: her boyfriend, tyrone web has been charged with murder: he shot her once in the head and placed her in the woods. >> it's unknown where she died. it's a gunshot wound, she could have been shot there, could have been shot some where else.

>> reporter: mia was last seen here at the forest park home where she lived with tyron at the time. police found her car and no signed of forced entry. but her coworkers at volunteers of america described to police how upset mia was later that day, october 28. crying about her boy friend's threats, telling her not to come home. >> it was an abusive relationship. something made him kill her, he became jealous perhaps of another man and decided to kill her. >> reporter: during the initial investigation, city police found inside their apartment, a picture of a woman with two semi automatic handguns attached pointing at her head and anger management books. the discovery here offered police the final clues. mia nicoles body and what turned out to be a bullet beneath it. police have not discovered the murder weapon. but they did discover during

the investigation that web had enpregnated another woman last year, perhaps add to the fuel. baltimore city police are looking for a man who broke into a west baltimore home and raped a woman. this is a drawing of the man, anyone with information should call city police. the search is on for the driver who ran from a city officer for several blocks today. the man's bullet-proof vest may have saved the officers life. >> reporter: a mail carrier who witnessed the dragging of the officer says he appeared to be

caught in the suspect's car from high up and in plain view of the suspect. it all began at the western police district station and the officer was dragged five whole blocks to edmenson avenue where he got free from the car. >> he was in pain, you could hear from him hollering and stuff. >> reporter: the officer stopped the car for another reason, that's when he found that he was wanted on a warrant. he kept going. >> the officer was wearing his bullet-proof vest which saved him from further injury. >> reporter: here is the newly released picture of the suspect. he's name is willie hughes. you would think that being dragged for five blocks would

cause severe injuries. but this evening, the officer is in stable conditions. back to you on tv hill. tonight, police are not releasing the identity of the injured officer. tonight the death poll is rising in indonesia where a second major earthquake hit this morning registering 6.8 on the rector scale. the u.n. estimates it is more than 1100 dead. thousands of missing and rescue workers are racing with time to pull survivors from the wreckage. the indonesia quake came after a quake hit samoa. a stunning admission from david letterman. letterman confessed to having

sexual relationships with female employees. letterman handed over a phony check to that person who was then arrested. this morning, letterman testified to a grand jury in an extortion case. letterman is married with one son. the show will air immediately following this newscast. surprising revelation today in the autopsy of michael jackson. the pop icon was actually healthy at the time of his sudden death. >> reporter: michael jackson's appearance may not have been convention conventional. but when it came to his physical hell, the pop star was in fairly good health for a 50- year-old man. the singer was not sickly and skeletal when he died of an over doze in may. he had scarrings on his face

and neck and tattooed eyebrows and lips. he weighed 137 pounds, thin but exceptional for his 5'5" frame. jackson had some arthritis and his lungs were inflame. but it's not believed none of these conditions were serious enough to have contributed to his death. the coroners office has not officially released the full autopsy yet. but it has ruled that jackson's death was a homicide. the pop star died at his rented mansion on june 25th. after his doctor, conrad murray administered two drugs to help him sleep. that drug cocktail caused his death. >> any decision on criminal charges against jackson's personal doctor would come from the los angeles district attorney's office. new at 11:00, baltimore

city firefighters have lost their battle for a pay raise. the city denied the request. the union took a matter to an independent arbitrator who ruled against the pay hike for the firefighters. officials and lawmakers sailed through the electronic tolls without paying. mike miller want to take away the free passes for delegates and senators. no word tonight how much money this would save the agency. a special honor for charm city tonight. major dixon was on hand to accept the heritage award. the honor was given for the design implementation of harbor.
