the breach has been released from custody and he is facing a minor fine. karen brown is reporting from new jersey with the latest. >> reporter: haisong jiang faced the media outside the police station. the last time he saw police, he ducked under a barrier and snuck under the barrier to walk his girlfriend into a gate. >> it makes you pause that it could happen at a major hub like newark. >> reporter: jiang will be arraigned on trespassing and faces a small fine. some are demanding a stiffer penalty. >> we want the federal government to have jurisdiction there and allow him to go to jail, if possible. >> reporter: there is new

diverted to colorado springs due to an unruly passenger. he locked himself in the bathroom and what he did next was frightening. >> unruly passenger came out of the bathroom with no shoes or socks and a razor. >> they tasered the man. he fell to the ground. >> bomb-sniffing dogs searched the plane. no explosives or evidence of terrorism were found. after a three-hour delay, the plane continued on to the destination of san francisco. maryland will discussion stiffer laws for child sex offenders. wee have suzanne collin was

more. sarah haley foxwell's body was found in the woods on christmas day. thomas james leggs has been convicted twice in the past with sexual child abuse. >> if we lose one child to murder, that is one child too many. when these things happen, it fires all of us -- inspires all of us to ask what can we do to better safeguard lives of our children? >> reporter: the governor tells eyewitness news that he thinks lawmakers will debate similar bills like similar to this crime. when a child sex offender serves his full sentence, the

state can do no more. there is talk to use civil laws to prove a person still dangerous to children. the head of the non-profit that advocates against child sex abuse says laws are important, but family members who educate their family the best protection. >> often times we know that people who know the child pose the greatest risk. >> reporter: two years ago, maryland passed jessica's law which requires 25-year sentences for child sex offenders. but good prisoners get good credits and get out early. >> i would be willing to sign a bill, but it would not have prevented this case. >> reporter: civil commitments of sex offenders after they

award for excellence. jessica kartalija, wjz 13 news. >> thank you. it is unclear if stephanie rawlings-blake will fill her staff openings with members of dixon's staff. let's turn to weather. we don't have to tell you it is a cold evening out there. a live look outside and you cannot see the frigid conditions, but you know it is a cold one. meteorologist bernadette woods is live in the weather center with the current conditions. >> we got up to 33, but when you factor in the wind chill, it was colder. let's show you first warning doppler weather radar. there is nothing going on in the area. we are down to 29 degrees right now. i want to show you after we drop into the teens. tomorrow, we don't warm up all that much. tomorrow's temperatures are still struggling to get to 30 degrees. when you factor in the wind, it will feel in the teens. the good news is, we could not tell you last week, we have a warm up this week. that is coming up in the forecast. thank you. firefighters rushed to the scene of a morning fire in

northwest baltimore. it broke out in the 2600 quantico avenue. no one was injured and the cause of the blaze is under investigation. the mother and daughter barely escape a two-alarm fire in montgomery county. they were filling the kerosene heater when it exploded. they are being treated for burns and smoke inhalation. a county firefighter was hurt in the blaze. still to come on eyewitness news, an unbelievable act. a man caught right here on camera throwing a molotov cocktail at an unsuspects victim. home sweet home. new numbers are out for the housing industry, including here in baltimore city.

a warehouse full of recyclable paper went up in flames in north carolina. when firefighters arrived, they decided it was too big to battle. the fire officials say it could take three days for the fire to burn itself out. in milwaukee, a man is caught on tape hurling a molotov cocktail in a

convenience store. he was wearing a hockey mask. police are still searching for the suspect, but they believe he is connected to a group of juveniles. topp experts will testify in washington this week. authorities are jpmorgan chase will testify. the hearings will continue this wednesday and thursday. the financial crisis may have caused housing problems over the past few years. housing prices in the baltimore area rose in 2009. home sales increased by 3% compared to the year before. however, there is a downside here. the average sales price fell 9% compared to prices in 2008. sales have picked up due to the $8,000 first-time home buyer credit. if you are sitting at home

well, you piqued my curiosity. a warm up coming? >> it will not be that warm. we have been solidly below that since the year started. the first day on january 1st, we got to 41 degrees early in the day. we have been in the 20s or 30s since then. we got above freezing today.

we are on the way back down. 29 right now in baltimore. 15 in oakland. 27 degrees in ocean city. the winds northwest and not as high as the last round, but it feels colder. 16 degrees in hagerstown. 20 in cumberland. 23 in baltimore. take a look at how expansive this cold air is this time. we got above zero in fargo. we are in the 30s for the highs in dallas. we got into the 20s in new orleans and jacksonville. 42 degrees in miami right now. in orlando? this afternoon, it was 33 degrees. a lot of cold air for a lot of the country. we are in the middle of that. what is going to happen over the next few days is the cold air will ease. a front will pass by and we may get a flurry or two. after that, the warm up is
