facing the gauntlet of press today or actually teeing off for the first time a couple of days from now? >> yeah, good point. i think the media today, probably tiger has had an opportunity to rehearse that. he knows basically what he's going to be asked. he knows how to defend those questions. for me, i've been talking about it the last couple months, getting back on to the golf course for the very first time, this is an environment that he has always been so comfortable with. he's had the golfing world basically in his hands for 10 or 12 years and suddenly when he comes out there today will be a different day, monday is an amazing day here at the masters. 40,000, 50,000 people, this is the first time he's faced the public arena. but when he finally gets to the first tee as a golfer on thursday, i think it will be a very interesting time for me how he copes with this whole new environment. >> he played a practice round with his old friend yesterday and o'meara said that he told
7:10 am
tiger this is the place where you belong. about this h is what you you love to do. i'm sure tiger and a lot of his friends are anticipating that this is the place where he will function better than perhaps he's functioned in real life. >> well, getting back on to the golf course is really what he needs to do now. he's had enough problems away from it. but i don't think it will be quite easy because coming to play at the masters, he's had five months from hitting a competitive golf shot. after he came back from the knee injury, he was a little bit out, half a club out as we would call it. you cannot be half a club out when you play the masters. he hasn't hit a competitive putt for five months. these greens are the most treacherous greens out will. so he's making -- i agree it was a sensible choice to come here to the masters because the environment is controlled and he has an opportunity of an element of a comfort zone. but, boy, it's extremely
7:11 am
difficult golf course to come out if you've just had a five month layoff. >> you mow what the pressure is like. you've won the jacket three times. is it possible to even anticipate what the pressure will be like for him come thursday morning? >> yeah, exactly. thursday is a big daily, it's an important day if you come here as a normal golfer. the first round, i've been there for me, the first round is so important. it sets your tone for the week. there's a lot of apprehension when you come here because takes fabulous golf course, extremely difficult now. and if you just get out of control and start to lose they thinks and start to bleed your golf short, maybe you won't be able to save yourself. but for him to come here with this whole new environment, because for me, tiger had an aura around him, through his records, but just his presence. and this, you know, here again, he has no idea how he will react to this when he stands out there
7:12 am
for the first time on the first tee. he's got the world of golf looking at him and he knows they're talking behind his back the last five months. and if he's been reading the media or the youtube stuff and all the south park stuff, my goodness. his own personal self-esteem has taken a hell of a hit. how can he get back to an even deal again. about the line, he's got to be happy and comfortable out there. >> we'll all be watching. nick faldo, thank you very much for your time this morning. we'll look forward to your comments later this week. >> thanks. >> you're a golf every, aren't aren't you, harry in. >> in a manner of speaking. >> so would you sake it's like 75% mental focus? >> no, that's why we call it a game, because it's all played between your ears. >> how do you get all that out of your mind? >> that's clearly before before what nick was talking about is so important because this guy has always been seen invincible.
