with triplets. baker was found shot to death. he was a victim of a burglary and was shot and killed by edmonds, he is being held without bail. it is crunch time for lawmakers. the last full week of the 90- day legislative session begins today. more on the bills still under consideration. a couple of thousand bills introduced in the session, only a few dozen have made it out of both chambers and now the rush is on with one we can left in the session. gang members who commit crimes could be facing tougher punishment. they've been pushing for the gang about that mandates consecutive sentencing. >> what's the use of us going

while driving. legislatures have only one week left, they will save a major chunk of work for the last 48 hours. april 12th is the final day of the session. money set aside in 2007 to clean up the bay is being cut back. scientists have been saying that runoff has to be clean up. millions was set aside to do that. now 2/3 of the funding will be taken away. hear more at 5:00 and 6:00 tonight. aftershocks continue to rock southern california and mexico as a quick quick -- 7.2

a scare for passengers on board a jet blue plane that took off from newark this morning. an engine cover fell off during takeoff. it was bound for fort lauderdale, it was returned for repairs. no one was hurt. a dramatic rescue in china where a plumber was rescued from underneath a building. they drilled through the first floor to free his legs enabling him to wiggle free. no wore on how he got stuck. an attack on a u.s.

consulate in pakistan. >> this is the moment militants tried to storm the consulate capture on pakistan tv. two bombs went off police say militants in military uniforms opened fire and launched grenades. they scrambled to fight them off. three guards were killed. no americans were hurt in the assault. the group immediately claimed responsibility saying america is our enemy and more attacks are planned. al-qaida and taliban have long vowed to strike u.s. targets in retaliation for missile attacks on strongholds along the border of afghanistan. the blasts came after a suicide

bomber blew himself up in northwest pakistan earlier in the day killing 41 people. people in the crowd struggled to save lives before medical crews could reach the scene. they carried the wounded in an attempt to find rescue workers. the party holding the rally opposes the taliban and it's the same place where personnel were killed-year-old -- earlier this year. >> the strike against the u.s. consulate was the first direct assault in 2006. a good day on wall street as the dow sits poised to hit the 11,000 mark. stocks were up today. the dow is up 47 points.

closing in on the 11,000 mark. the economy is recovering, a boost in the housing number is the biggest surprise sending sales of previously owned homes up 8% in february. the national association says that it's probably because buyers are rushing to take advantage of the tax credit before it ends this month. they're seeing multiple offers coming in and a growing number of cities across the country. the industry seems to be coming back to life. it expanded in march. nonmanufacturing businesses make up 90% of the economy. general motors announce a safety measure to prevent

>> starting last wednesday to stretch until today and going to continue for a few more days. this just came in, the latest update on temperatures brought us up to 83 degrees and that ties the record, 83 degrees reached in 1942. that's where we sit now. 83 degrees in baltimore. 81 in d.c. cooler in ocean city. it's being influenced in elkton. we're way above our averages and the winds light all over the place. generally speaking they were out of the south. they have gotten a mess up with the water influence. here's the next storm passing by. this one passing to the north. patchy clouds coming through and a patchy shower or two and fizzled as it moved through. there are a few more showers forming. going to get some clouds and the chance for a shower into

tomorrow as the warm front passes north but a small chance and when the warm front clears we go up from today with our temperatures and even up more so on wednesday. some warm air coming our way for the next few days, going to challenge those highs however behind this, notice some cooler air gathering some strength and that's with the storm system coming our way later this week. thunderstorms later thursday and chance for a few showers on friday for opening day. that's something we will be watching. out on the water, small craft advisory in effect. cooler than the air temperatures, that's why it is cooler along the water. with the forecast, we need to jump back and show you the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. what we have going on with this forecast here is that tonight is going to be a mile one, and then into tomorrow, we are

women breast-fed 900 infant deaths could be prevented and $19 million in health costs could be saved. >> there's answer -- antibodies that the mother produces. in breast-fed babies, half of all new mom do some breast- feeding but only 14% give only breast milk during that time. >> it's important for moms not do feel guilty if they can't do it they can't do it. but so often it's an issue of logistic logistical problems if they knew more about breast pumps. >> she wanted to breast-feed

andy for 7 weeks. >> i had breast infections and got too stressful. >> reporter: now she will give it another shot. >> the new development in a murder of a florida toddler caylee anthony. why her mother was back in court. >> reporter: casey anthony's lawyers claim the prosecutors with held evidence that could prove her innocence. her daughter was found dead after a 5- month search. they say they didn't have access to the names of searchers. they hunted around the area where her body was found but they were not the ones to find her because the area was under water at the time.

thank you. anthony has pleaded not guilty. the doctor charged in michael jackson's death and has to face more than a dozen members of michael jackson's family. >> crowds gathered outside of the courthouse awaiting the man charged with michael jackson's death. he will face a dozen members of the pop star's family and the judge. this session is to set a date for preliminary hearing and to assign a judge for the case. they're fighting to allow the doctor to keep his medical license. they want it revoked but the attorneys argue, if he can't practice medication, he can't pay for defense. murray signed

on a month before his death. his job was to help keep him healthy through a series of concerts. he was treating jackson for insomnia. he died with a hospital medication and they found other sedatives in his system. some of his family members say they want stronger charges against murray. if he's convicted now, he could face four years behind bars. >> last month the witness account of his death. the witness says dr. murray stopped performing cpr to hide evidence at the scene. >> we're live in the news room to explain four people were shot. >> police say that those

crimes began easter sunday and continued through night along a stretch of the city. one man was shot in the ankle and the man shot with a bee bee gun. detective says it was connected to a group of young people who attended the autoshow. it included resisting arrest. >> police say officers were on patrol because problems have happened during past autoshows. >> police make an arrest after a man is attacked with a box cutter. he faces charges of assault. he was involve in a verbal argument with another man that stabbed him. the victim went to shock trauma but he has no-life-threatening injuries. they have identified a woman who was involve in a motorcycle accident. sheryl anne robinson lost

control of her bike and crashed into a jersey wall and pronounced dead at the scene. space shuttle discovery blasted off this morning. reporting from cape cape canaveral florida. if first of five shuttle missions blasted off before sunrise. discovery with 7 astronauts on board is on its way to the space station. >> a great start to a great mission. >> the three female astronauts will make history when they join a fourth in orbit to become the most women in space at the same time. >> i hope it says women have come a long way and worked hard to do any of the jobs related to space flight. >> 8-tons of cargo and research gear is carried. they will perform 3 space walks

to replace an ammonia tank to cool the equipment. once it arrives it will be a full house. it has a crew of three when on sunday they docked with the space station. in all, there will be 13 people up there. one of the challenges for discovery's mission is that three of the station's crew members will have just gotten there and be getting their space legs and they're thrust into a space station mission. mission. >> reporter: wjz eyewitness news. discovery did run into a bit of trouble when the main

antenna failed after takeoff. officials say there are other tools to work around the situation. breaking news from washington, officials announce they're seeking a fine against toyota in which recent vehicle recalls, the transportation department is seeking the maximum penalty. they show that toyota knew of sticking gas pedals in september but did not issue a recall until january. taking a look outside, a clear and warm evening. we have weather and traffic together. bernadette woods has the numbers. yes it is warm this afternoon. we just tied our record. nothing going on in our area, but a cold front is on its way through the region. patchy clouds but that's about it. showers to the north and the south. notice the batch of showers in this section basically the

rescuers calling it a miracle, a hundred miners pulled to safety after a week underground. the unfinished minor trapped 153 miners. 115 have been rescued. they're trying to reach the rest trapped inside the mine. workers working to contain an oil spill. eyewitness news following the story. >> reporter: a tug boat trying to stabilize the ship so it

>> the prosecutor says he is seeking to try one of the juvenile summits as an adult. a rescue of a father saving the life of a little girl. the dad jumped in in new york after his two-year-old fell off of a ship. the two were touring when the toddler fell 20 feet down the side. a man from france came to the rescue to help the girl and her father. >> he went in and put his arm around the father and made sure he had the daughter okay and he pulled them to the pier. >> the french tourist later left in a cab and the father was not able to thank him. >> this is the first time she has been out in public after

now, first warning weather, complete forecast and the warning of severe weather. a beautiful green space outside, it's a wonderful day to be outside and near the water. >> it's cooler along the water. look how green things are getting. that's one good thing. and warm it is. showing you, 83 degrees, looking at the bottom line, 83 is the record. we have tied the record we are 22 degrees above average. we are going to cool down late they are week. people are forgetting what the average is.

we've been warm. 83 in baltimore. cooler along the water. 57 in ocean city, the water temperatures are in the upper 40s to low 50s around the region and we get a little bit of a wind off of the water. it is influence by the water in ocean city and around the bay but the overall flow is out of the southwest. that's bringing the warm air into the region. it's ahead of the front trying to pass us to the north. there's not a lot at this point. there were a couple showers earlier further west they fizzled out and moved our way. some showers coming down to the southwest, that's another front . what warm flow of air comes

our way the next few days, however behind the system, the jet stream digging far to the south and that's bringing some cooler air behind the system. and the way it works out, as soon as soon as the storm moving through, the cooler air will return. for the forecast, looks like this, small craft advisory in effect. temperatures up to 50 degrees. going down to 53, recovering 85 degrees with sunshine. tomorrow and in some cases the forecast showing hot on wednesday because of temperatures in the upper 80s, but it is going to cool down this week enjoy it the next few days. >> we want to know about friday. still to come. >> going to be a long night and a long weekend. last-minute rush to get legislation through in this last week of the session.
