it was part of a deal to avoid the death penalty. he face life in prison without parole now. a georgia police officer who investigated the sexual assault charges against ben roethlisberger resigned. jerry blatche was the first officer to interview him outside of the nightclub in march. he acknowledged in the police report to making derogatory comments about the alleged victim. roethlisberger is not facing charges but may face charges from the nfl. friends of the accuser say ed joiner kept them away so roethlisberger could be alone with their friend. an investigation continues tonight into the death of a washington, dc, middle school principal. the body of brian betts was found in his silver spring home after he failed to report to work. the autopsy shows the 42-year- old was killed by a gun shot. according to police, his 2007 nissan suv is also missing.

coworkers called him an inspirational leader for teachers and students. some students in local schools are being accused of sexting. it's looking into the selling and sending of nude photos of female students over the internet. >> reporter: thomas powell middle school had girls willingly pose for videos and pictures that were sold. >> i feel badly for the students who did it and the parents and the students who must not have known the seriousness of what was going on. >> there was talk in the halls about it 8th graders receiving nude photos of girls. >> reporter: the investigation began on april 9th when a teacher found an itouch that had the photos on it. parents learned of it through a letter home from the principal.

>> sometimes it's hard for young people to understand the ramification of what seems harmless. >> reporter: most of the material was produced off campus but times shared and sold on grounds. while sexting is unheard of, the trading is selling of photos by middle school students is disturbing. >> for that to happen in high school is a big deal, so for that to happen as this young in middle school, that's pretty scary. >> reporter: in maryland, anyone arrested in sexting related case could face a number of serious charges including felony sexual exploitation of a minor and possession and distribution of child pornography. back to you. it wasn't a movie make believe when danny gloveer was taken into custody. this a photo of glover and several other people being arrested at the head quarters of sodexo. they were cited for

drying things out slowly but surely after the rain moves out of here. things clearing out overnight. 84 today. 54 the low. 62 the average. the record is 90 and 30. right now at 69. elton down to 58. dc still warm at 71. 72. 52, cooler out in oakland. the winds are beginning to turn out to the west, northwest. eventually once the line of showers moves through, we will see the northwest wind. that should give us sunshine along with cooler air. the front across the portions of new york this afternoon, allowing the rain in northern texas by the way. west virginia,west virginia, and across the region overnight, behind it the breeze to the northwest. low pressure over california will force the cooler air into the region. snow across michigan this afternoon and they had snow still going on across western maine and the higher elevations of new hampshire this afternoon. temperatures in washington were in the upper 20s with moderate snow this afternoon.

yeah, here's the front getting ready to go through the region. to the north and west, it may be at 100-miles or so. clearing up nice. decent day. seeing clouds from time to time. it will be breezy and a lot cooler today. maybe getting up to around 60. not a bad day really, but cooler than we have seen. northwest winds up to 25 knots. there will be a small craft advisory on the bay tomorrow. the sunrise, 6:27. you will probably see that at 7:46. overnight tonight, more showers, and maybe a rumble of thunder or two. 5 a by morning -- 55 by morning. tomorrow, clouds and chilly compared to what we saw. 61 the high for tomorrow. the next five days, temperatures below normal. sun and 69. 38 at night. 60 on monday. 62 on tuesday. back around 40 or so. warming up again by the middle of next week. have a great weekend, denis.

there is bun hot spot that nasa scientists cannot stop talking about. flames stretching out for almost half a million miles on the surface of the sun. it lasted nearly 19 hours, and nasa says it's the largest solar eruption in 15 years and also say the hot spot on the sun was no threat to us. will be picking and grinning in one kentucky town this weekend because of the annual hill billy days in mikeville. mike -- pikeville. there will be bluegrass usic and 300 food and craft vendors.
