hello, again i am don scott. >> i am jessica kartalija. the noisy flashy storm system that moved through last night and we are assessing the damage done by it right now. the winds and uprooted trees and knocked over power lines. branches came down too. utility crews are working in the area to clean up and restore power. and look live outside right now. the clouds are lingering so are the showers and it was pouring up here a few moments ago. and neither is expected to clear any time soon. we, of course, are live with complete first warning coverage and weija gang that is more but we will begin with bernadette woods. welcome back and good afternoon. >> thank you. at this point we have the rain out there, we are not seeing the severity with the thunderstorms last night but we have the rain out there and here's how it looks around the state. we have got a few areas where it's coming down and that's where you are seeing the brighter colors. in the city itself, heading up to the northern parts of

baltimore county, decent rain and that's what's adding to came down over an into have two inches last night. some cases three inches. perry hall picked up in bel air and about to aberdeen. westminster the rain is around for you a break as you head towards frederick letting up at this point. but it will pick up again for sykesville and to the south we will show you where annapolis about to pick up as this batch comes through and there's heavier rain right now to the east of dc in pg county and it's going to pick up for upper moral borrow and clinton. could be a rum bevel thunder in this patch. we will be dealing with the storm right into tomorrow. not quite done with it yet. but there are changes later and for more here's marty. >> staying here in the first warning weather center eating a lunchtime hershey bar without a care in the world. you want to know when the sun is coming out? by wednesday and through saturday. with the warmup that's going to be absolutely nothing short of

spectacular. we are going to see temperatures by the weekend move back into the mid and then upper 70s. not a care in the world. got a great extend forecast for you. ahead you said there's lot of water under the bridge between now and then and meteorologist bernette woods would have the details cooling up shortly. now back to you. >> eat it before it melts. first warning weather coverage with weija jiang who has more. >> reporter: good afternoon. right now we are along the jones falls where the water level is higher than normal and the water itself is rushing of course since the storm hit yesterday and it caused serious problems. not just here but across the entire state. southbound traffic on the jfx snarled during several hours of the morning commute. a delay that was not only inconvenience but dangerous as motorists drove around a large amount of standing water near cold spring lane.

just hours before, just one exth away, the ramp at westbound northern parkway was shut down after three feet of water blocked the road onto interstate 83. homeowners across the area are also dealing with the storms aftermath. on the 3100 block of edgewood avenue in he willot city a oak tree snapped landing on power lines and utility crews are working the area to restore power as they will continue to do for the rest of the day. nan fact the be crews reached power -- estored power to 24,000 customers since the storm hit but thousands customers are without power at this hour. weija jiang wjz "eyewitness news." >> thanks very much that same storm that brought us the thunder and lightning last night brought tore conveyedos to the south -- tornadoes that killed a dozen people. we continue with terrell brown reporting for wjz. >> reporter: members worship with tears of sorrow and voice

of hope standing near what's left of their church in yazoo county mississippi. ♪ still the storm passes by. >> reporter: for one million this hymn has new meaning. >> i could feel at peace and i knew he was with me. >> reporter: dale thrasher was inside the church when the tornado hit. he hid under the communion table. >> i just asked the good lode to -- lord to help and protect me and he put his arms around me and sealed me under the table and everything else was thrown around. >> him in a tornado right now. >> reporter: the storms ripped a path of destruction from missouri to louisiana arkansas to alabama killing nearly a dozen people including three children one of them a 3-month-old. hundreds of buildings are destroyed and hard hit mississippi. as rescuers look for anyone unaccounted for. >> we worked for something for 44 years and just in a matter of a minute or two and it's all gone. >> reporter: residents now focus on cleanup as the national guard patrols from the ground and the air. in a helicopter, mississippi

governor haley barbour toured the devastation. the images of a ravaged county is one he takes pearlly he viebd what he saw as utter obliteration. because of the sheer magnitude, the national weather service says it may not understand the full scope of the deadly storms until tuesday. in new york, terrell brown, wjz "eyewitness news." and first warning weather coverage continues once again with meteorologist bernette woods with the intensity of the twisters that touched down this weekend. hello, again, bern. >> hello, i want to show outef scale because it's official it's an ef4 tornado that brought the damage and unfortunately the deaths to mississippi. you can see on the scale that's a very high level tornado. around here, it's very rare to get something like that and it's very rare in general for an ef4 to happench winds in the ef4 because 168 and 199 miles per hour. we want to take one more look

at first warning doppler radar with it opened up to show outcountry. this is what's left of the storm at this point. in this we have touched on the rain for the most part. there's pretty strong storms in the southern parts of florida at this point. the real lightning even a tornado warning or two with this batch making its way through. you can see it's very large storm and not out of here yet and we will track it and have the rest coming up as we head through the afternoon. jess. >> stay with wjz for first warning weather and instant updates on the forecast and live doppler radar log onto wjz.com. new information this noon from anne arundel county police about the officer who tasered and shot a man in glen bernie -- burnie. ron matz is live with the latest. >> reporter: police identified the officer involved as jeffrey who is a 3-year veteran of the anne arundel police department. police say the officer was on routine patrol when he encountered 20-year-old richard malczewski jumping up and down

of a roof of a minivan. officer says he was forced to taser and shoot him because he acted in an aggressive manner and made the officer fear for his safety. malczewski say they witnesseded the entercounter and dis-- encount erin dispute the version of events. >> the office is on routine administrative leave. the trial begins today for a baltimore community lead are accused of killing his estranged wife. murder happened outside baltimore's east side district court in november of 2008. prosecutors say cleaveon williams junior stalked his estranged wife and stabbed her to death. he is the former president of the greater green mount community association. wjz will have more on the trial today at four, five and six. right now baltimore county police are trying to identify a pedestrian who was struck and killed as she pushed baby in stroller. it happened around four yes afternoon in rosedale. police say the woman attempted

to cross philidelphia road near i-695 when she was hit by a car. the woman later died at shock trauma but the baby stroller was pushed out of the way and the child was not hurt. police say the driver was at fault and charges are now pending. a 3-year-old is recovering following a house fire in glen burnie. for fighters responded to the home in the first block of harvard road around 2 yesterday afternoon. they found the fire in the kitchen and was brought under control but the child with a 30-year-old man were taken to shock trauma to be treated for smoke inhalation. firefighters describe the injuries as serious but not life-threatening. there's new springtime flu to protect retes residents from the h1n1 virus. the city health department is offering free vaccination clinics all week. although flu season ends this month, doctors say h1n1 is completely unpredictable. 45 marylanders died from the disease in the past year. most recent victim was baltimore resident who died within the last month. and still to come on wjz

right now crews are using robots submarines to stop an oil leak off louisiana gulf coast. spill was caused by the drilling rig that exploded and sank last week. it has a potential to threaten shores from louisiana to florida. 42,000 gallons are leaking every day and the coast guard says the environmental threat could be reduced if crews can pinpoint the cut and cut off the leak. >> we are on water respond together oil spill we are attempting to secure the source the,000 barrels per day estimate and they are working to absolutely figure out how they are going to do the actual securing the well itself

process. >> right now the spill is still about 70 miles from the mainland. both coast guard believes the oil will stay away from the coast for the next few days. an an ohio man will appear behalf judge after being caught gun as the president's plane was in north carolina airport. police arrested 2 year old joseph mcvey yesterday afternoon in the ashville regional airport park lot. he was in car equipped with police gear even though he is not in law enforcement. investigators say he wanted to see the president who was departing on air force one. and mcvey is being held in lieu of $100,000 bond. the sweeping financial reform bills faces the biggest test yesterday. senate will vote on whether to debate the measure aimed at regulating wall street and preventing other meltdowns. democrats need the support of at least one republican to move ahead. but the gop is holding out for big changes clawing multibillion dollar bailout fund financeed by large banks. and please look live outside this noon and stick around.

motion more is forming out to the west in here. and that's because the storm senter is pretty far to the west and until it clears we will see this forming throughout the afternoon. at this point the heavier rain make its way out of the city towards bel air and northern ports of balmmore county and picking up for bel air. also same thing for aberdeen. northern parts of baltimore county we have pretty solid rain in place. up the way up to the maryland line and west of that, northern parts of carroll county a little bit more spotty but you can see where the yellows are, that's where the rain is more solid that the point. that continues south down into pg county where we have a thunderstorm making its way through right now with these brighter colors moving towards annapolis. so we will show you from the overnight, really intense thunderstorms and yesterday, afternoon, into the early hours, last night, but, that settled down and flood rains continued on and off throughout the night. so you can see them make their way through but you are not

noticing as bright a collar as with the thunderstorms yesterday. that's when we had numerous reports of hail in some case an inch and half. that was montgomery county and inch an 3/4 in frederick county. that's big hail. now, wind wide-- wise the out of the east keeping us in clouds for the afternoon. temperatures are not going to go up all that much either. we are seeing it try to break up in the areas of rain. if that happens, temperatures will go to julyp but at this point with the clouds around, we are pretty much in the 50s across the state. we will probably get to the 60s this afternoon. here's the center of the storm. still spiraling out to the west. it's not until tomorrow morning it's going to clear up and until that happens, we are going to see off and on rounds of rain and maybe a few thunderstorms heading through the afternoon. but tomorrow, this pulls away and clouds and maybe mixing with sunshine but it's not until wednesday that we finally see the sun return. when it does a breezy nice wednesday afternoon. so here's how that looks for the forecast. today, on and off bouts of rain
