an infant found dead. a baby just weeks old dies at home. tonight homicide investigators are involved in the case. good evening, thank you for joining us i'm adam may. we first brought you this story, now we're following up. >> reporter: the 911 call came at 9:17 saturday morning, when a woman came banging on her neighbor's door asking for help. detectives aren't saying much about the case. only that the circumstances inside the apartment have spurred an investigation. >> there are some circumstances

that has brought questions to the investigators. >> reporter: plus identify the 6 -week-old boy as joel othude. investigators declined to answer questions about the case, saying they don't know anything about the boy or the neighbor who live there is. >> reporter: police investigators hoping that an autopsy is able to reveal a lot more than is known in this case. derek valcourt. neighbors in the annapolis area are under a warning. after a man speaking spanish

tried to kidnap a young girl. >> personally, since i have kids, i don't think they should be in the street. >> parents and neighbors are encouraged to speak to their children about not speaking to strangers. this year's virginia tech student was bittersweet as two students did not graduate. yardley love was murdered three weeks before graduation. her exboy friend sits in jail for the crime. she was awarded a posthumous degree and many people there wore ribbons in her honor. in the wake of that murder, uva officials are leading a push to change requirements for off campus arrests. uva's president wants a better

system to notify university officials, that's because officials there never knew that george hughley had been arrested back in november of 2008 when he allegedly threatened to kill two university police officers. as that oil approaches wetlands, anger is mounting. top government officials are meeting with louisiana residents. there may be signs that that oil spill is finally slowing. >> reporter: concerns along the gulf coast rise with every clump of crude oil washes ashore. the beaches on grand isle remain closed. and residents here posted some not so subtle messages to bp. >> it's awful, we come out here every weekend. me and my kids love to crab on the beach, it's frustrating. >> reporter: frustration compounded with more news from

p bp. clean up crews here on elmer's eye island have been doing clean up. but until bp finally plugs the well, there's nothing to keep the oil from invading this wild preserve. engineers plan to shoot mud then cement into the hole that lies a mile below surface. the technique has been tried only on land. adding to the mounting frustration toward bp and the obama administration. >> in terms of not trusting bp, there's nobody, nobody who is more devastated by what has happened. nobody that wants to shut this off more than we do. but u.s. interior secretary ken salazar questioned bp's determination. siting missed deadlines and a controversy nowhere close to being solved. >> i'm frustrated that bp has

been unable to stop this leak. >> reporter: salazar said he would push bp out of the way if a solution could not be found. the justice department officials have been in that gulf region gathering information about the spill but they are not saying whether there is a criminal investigation. back here in maryland, it's been an overcast sunday afternoon with a lot of scattered showers across the area. taking a live look outside. is there even a peak of sunshine out there? will it stick around? bernadette woods is looking at the forecast for us. >> we want to show you first warning doppler radar. with when we say scattered showers this is what we mean. this they are just scattered all throughout the state. notice the storms from east to west. this is the direction it rotates. we're going to be taking you to

some of the areas that are looking at the storms. columbia a few showers around as is the case also in mount arie. you can see again is moving east to west as it moves across the region. so we do have a flood warning that is in effect. because of the rain that happened overnight into this morning, that is until further notice along the river, we will have a full forecast coming up. the rain didn't stop the maryland fast marathon. it's the fastest growing rain in maryland. each runner there has a story. >> reporter: at the starting line of the marathon, pace is important. time is too and each runner has a goal.

to finish it. the half marathon supports the university of maryland. marlene and stewart cancer center. organizers say the money raised goes toward research which is key to keeping cancer at bay. >> and to help the recruiting of bringing in some of the most fabulous doctors around the country. we've built a tremendous staff at the cancer center now. >> reporter: from the sideline, there's encouragement from runners. >> there was very good signs at the hilly course, it was very hard. but some of the signs made you think. like there was one that said, this is so much easier than fighting cancer. taylor and sierra rebel are cancer survivors. >> it makes me feel great. like people care. >> reporter: last year, the

spectacular video here. tornado caught on tape. look at how wide that tornado is. veteran storm chasers say it's one of the most dangerous they'd ever seen. a vortex grew very quickly dumping inches of rain and hail. that storm's impact is still being felt today with power still out in many areas. former major league all star pitcher jose liva has passed away. the right hander has died at his home at the age of 37.

the cause of death is ruled a heart attack according to his wife. a former member of the british royal family is subject of a reporter's sting operation that doesn't go well. the paper news of the world says it has a recording of sarah ferguson trying to sell access to her ex-husband's prince andrew in return for $700,000. right now she is not accused of breaking new specific laws. and a spokesman of ferguson says she is embarrassed by the incident. a senior iranian official says that the three berkeley graduates could be returned home in -- home for a prisoner

exchange. it is an unwelcomed visitor to our state. and it's man against bug in prince george's county. now the state is teaming up with other states in ranging war. the emerald ashbore beetle. it was rediscovered two years ago. one recent strike thaty to eliminate it's ash tree food source before the beetle

spreads. and quarantine any fire work leaving the area that could transport bugs. this bug is native to china but got transferred to maryland through wood crates in transport. the latest tactic, purple sticky traps in your neighborhood. >> 4,000 of these traps are going to be placed in maryland this season. and with hopes of collecting any ash, any emerald ash bores that have spread out of our quarantine area. >> reporter: about 10% of baltimore street trees are ash. the wood is also used for baseball bats. the damage could reach more than $300 million in this area alone if experts can't stop this army of beetles from traveling on its stomachs. tim williams, wjz eyewitness news. and wjz is always on, for

welcome back everybody. this is the rain that's making its way through the state right now. we have a few different areas that we are talking about. few different areas here, and around pittsburgh could be a few rumbles of thunder with brighter colors just to the south of g right there. we want to open up a little bit more and show you some lighter rain over to the north of

bellaire. we have a few different areas where there is probably thunder going on as well. just to the west of salisbury heading west ward to elliot. this one making its way toward the bray toward the western shoreline. we had that rain come down last night. it came down heavy enough that there is now a flood warning in effect. we'll get to that in just a moment. but take a look at this rotation, it is all pivoting around the state. you notice the rotation around the state means that that's the center of the storm and it's drifting off to the south. at this point we do have this flood warning that's in effect. until further notice around the river, because the river is running a little bit over normal and it is going to take some time to come down. fog is probably going to form, in addition to that, some drizzle is possible. and the clouds are going to stick around.

72 in baltimore right now, 73 in d. c. 73 in hagestown. 75 is where we topped out, look at where we started out. very warm 66 degrees. we're not dropping very much tonight either with those clouds around. so here's that storm as we said. look at that pivoting action. it's weakening as it does so. so as long as it's around, we do still have a chance for showers and clouds in the vicinity of this low. by tuesday it is out of our hair by now. it is very interesting until we get to the weekend. it could become a tropical storm or maybe a tropical depression. that's something we're going to be watching. eventually this could factor into our equation and drift to the east. the forecast as we head through tonight. rainy drizzle around.
