>> reporter: that >> reporter: means police are not releasing information. reporting live at county police headquarters, adam may, wjz eyewitness news. >> police are asking anyone with information to call baltimore detectives or metro crime stoppers. the investigation continues into the death of an infant in anne arundel county. >> reporter: the child was only 6 weeks old, police found the victim's body inside a laurel apartment on saturday. they rushed to the scene after neighbors said somebody ran to their door asking for help. the baby was unresponsive but had no signs of trauma. vic, back to you.

>> an office is being performed to determine the cause of death. undated the breaking news from northwest baltimore. a serious collision between an suv and sedan happened just after 4:30 at the intersection of cold spring lane and povelco. battle over slots. the dispute over the arundel mall slot machine. mike hellgren has more on this battle. >> reporter: millions of the dollars are on the line, with big business taking on private citizens and there have been allegations of lies and fraud surrounding the petition to bring arundel mill slots to the courtroom. a high stakes battle has pitted the cordish company against a grass root group that doesn't want slots in their neighborhood.

>> as citizens, we felt bullied through the process and this is one more step of bullying. >> reporter: but cornish says they are no goliath. >> this was really a corporate effort to usurp the constitutional vote. >> reporter: the cordish lawsuit claims thousands of signatures gathered during a petition drive to bring slots to a vote are invalid. that some of them were even faked. >> when all the evidence comes out, that will be what happened here. >> are they afraid to get it rejected. >> that's what the voters are here to do. >> reporter: the arundel slots would be the largest. in the two years that arundel has allowed slots, no business have opened. the only slots parlor looks like a sure bet right now is in perryville cecil county, where construction is under way it's

five for murder rates. the deadliest city in the nation continues to be new orleans. baltimore is fifth with 37 murders for 100,000 people. the number of murders in baltimore has dropped from 222 in 2007, to 238 in 2008. the latest information from the gulf is it is now going to be until wednesday before bp can try its latest tactic to stop if oil gusher. this is a live look at the leak 5,000 feet below the surface as robots work on it. patient is wearing thin. >> reporter: president obama's cabinet members toured the spill that's only getting worse. >> we are going to stay on this and stay on bp until this gets done and it gets done the right

way. >> reporter: louisiana's is using stand to build a barrier to keep the oil from reaching the marshes. but in some parts of louisiana are already drenched. the oil now stretches along 150 miles of shoreline between louisiana and alabama. at least 6 million-gallons has gushed into the gulf and they still can't stop it. bp's next plan to plug the massive leak is called top kill. engineers will shoot mud then cement into the ruptured well. but the difficult procedure is delayed until wednesday. and bp isn't sure it'll work. >> if it was on land we would have a very high confidence of success. but because it's in 5,000 feet

of water we need to be realistic around the issues of operating in a mile of water. >> reporter: but the obama administration warns that it's losing patience, promising to push bp out of the way if the oil giant can't cap the spill soon. joel brown, wjz eyewitness news. and if the top kill measure does not work, bp will again try to lower a dome over the leak to contain the oil. two previous attempts at this have failed. the clouds are clearing up and some warmer weather is ahead. a live look outside right now. over all it's been a mostly pleasant day. wjz is live with weather coverage. bernadette woods is tracking a system at the coast that could turn into a named storm. >> we had some drizzle this morning, some sun this afternoon. take a look around the area. particularly now east to northeast of the baltimore metro. some stuff moving in from cecil county. a few areas here north of the

city around the western county up toward glen rock. we're talking very minor stuff. most areas will stay dry. but there may be some fog forming during the overnight. then they stick into the overnight hours before we get another warm up. bernadette has a look at the first look at perhaps the tropics this season, bernadette. >> it's hard to believe. the season doesn't start till june 1st, but the national hurricane center is monitoring a system just off the coastline here. now it doesn't have the full tropical characteristics. but it's being honored by the national hurricane center and it could become a depression or a storm over the next 24 to 48 hours.

here's a look outside. clouds out of here, sunshine coming back. sun will be back. with that sun, temperatures are going to shoot up. it's been very warm in the upper northwest. we're talking 90 in minneapolis. that's moving toward our region. so we're going to get warm. today right now temperatures are actually above normal. mid- to upper 70s. winds continue to be into the east and northeast. that has led clouds in. we will have sunshine popping through. that will help temperatures shoot up a bit. 78 in washington more sun out that way. 75 east, 65 at ocean city. the wind is coming right off of the atlantic ocean. later tonight, the winds will be so light, once again we could see some low clouds and fog forming overnight that may linger into tomorrow morning.

so that's something to look forward to i guess. by afternoon, the sun will clear things out and temperatures are going to rebound. off to our south, the rain that we saw this weekend, most of it is way down into the carolina coast. we talked about the situation out in the atlantic is not really developing, but it is a feature and it has some winds with it. so we're watching that carefully for you. severe weather going on in the dakotas right now. for us, we still have the flow off the atlantic ocean. for our region, that high, pressure to the north will eventually move in. temps up above normal. we might even get it close to

90 degrees. this front way across northern, by tomorrow is going to slide right toward our region. probably pick up a couple of strong gusty thunderstorms sometime thursday into friday. and then it'll cool down some what over the weekend. the bay temp now around 67. so tonight maybe a brief sprinkle north of the city. we'll get fog forming and in the low 60s tomorrow, back up maybe upper 70s, if we have a little more sun could easily get to 80 degrees. but it'll be a little bit on the muggy side with all that residual moisture with the clouds and rain we saw over the last couple of days. >> thank you, bob. still to come tonight on wjz eyewitness news. too many, too soon an intense study on first year vaccines. a week without bullying, why maryland's first lady is stepping in to stop it.

this handshake by fergie ferguson. the duchess of york appears to be looking for a $750,000 deal. he promised to set up meetings with her ex-husband. but the person she was talking to was a under cover recorder posing as a businessman. >> i find it a bit delusional. >> reporter: the queen herself has been involved in crisis talk here at the palace. the duchess who's said to be millions in dollars in debt has apologized for what she called a serious lapse in judgment. >> can you come back from this

kind of scandal? it's going to be incredibly hard. >> reporter: the 50-year-old has found herself in trouble before. but has never been caught so royally red handed. wjz eyewitness news. when ferguson divorced from her ex-husband she said she was given 15,000 pounds a year in the settlement. that's about $22,000. another tragedy for the family of actress brittney murphy. just months after her death. >> reporter: murphy's widower husband monjack was found home in his home. the preliminary cause of death appears to be natural causes. first responders were called to the home sunday morning. police believe murphy's mother made that call. britney murphy died after collapsing in the same home

back in december. >> monjack was a screen writer. he and murphy were married in 2007. a judge ordered lyndsey lohan must wear an alcohol checking device. this all stems from lohan pleading to no contest to driving under the influence in 2007. in lohan violate it is rule she could get 178 days in jail. a statewide effort to stop bullying on campus. school districts have some help from maryland's first lady katie o' malley. >> reporter: in massachusetts, 15-year-old febie prince commits suicide in february. police arrest three students

for bullying her. an 11-year-old hung herself friday evening. the girl's diary is full of i of incidents of bullying. the next step now for school leaders statewide is preventing it. katie o' malley signed on to help and marks this week as bullying awareness week. >> all kids know what it is, but really getting them to be aware of when it's happening and what to do about it. not to be quiet about it. >> reporter: kids who bully need help too, says mrs. o' malley. >> the bullier themselves are kids who may have issues. they may have problems at home. >> reporter: students are just too afraid to come forward. >> bullying is a very serious thing and you have to deal with

it. >> reporter: devron kahn says he's seen bullying in the hall ways, but he says cyber bullying is the worse. >> because of cyber bullying, all the texts and bad messages, the kids are stressed out all the time. >> reporter: mrs. o' malley sent letters to the state's schools asking teachers to take time out to talk to students and parents about bullying. anne arundel county police are asking for your help to find two sex offenders. 50-year-old willie brown who was last living in annapolis and 30-year-old chris toáfr gillenwater who last had an

address in gillen county. 35 days later, and a spill in the gulf of mexico continues. thousands of gallons continue to pour out by the minute. beaches and marshes are being contaminated. tomorrow bp will try once again to stop the leak using a technique called top kill where a huge amount of concrete and mud will be fired into the ruptured line. as millions of the gallons of oil continue to spew into the spill, a baltimore county company ceo thinks he has a plan to stop the leak. jessica cartalia reports, he just needs to get the attention of the federal government. >> reporter: about 65 miles of louisiana coastline is now covered in oil. bp is now trying to stop the spill by jamming mud and cement into the ruptured well. a plan don sanchez the ceo of asperos foundry company says won't work. >> they are getting so many

ideas from so many people, that they are just getting inundated. >> reporter: with a density three times that of cement, sanchez believes their product will stop the oil from spewing into the gulf. >> we have to get a quick solution and we think we have. >> reporter: they mix three liquids with a sand additive. then as oil seeps into this water jug. >> i'm going to put the hose back over the top. they quickly put the solution down the tube. the high density solution mix has stepped into the material with the leak. >> meeting with people with wjz and they are here because we have a proposed solution for stopping the oil spill in the gulf of mexico. >> reporter: sanchez has sent letters to several letters and

sent proposal after proposal to bp with no luck. sanchez hopes someone will listen. >> we have the material ready to move right now. we could be in the gulf of mexico with material in a couple of days. >> reporter: sanchez called governor o' malley's office while we were there. he is hoping someone can help him get to the federal government for a meeting. a race to save lives, if you've been holding off on adopting a kitten or cat now may be the perfect time. the humane society and b.a.r.k. want to have 500 cats adopted by the end of the month. time now for a quick look at some of the quick stories you will find in tomorrow morning's edition of the baltimore sun. a townsend man says the county violated his rights by asking

extradition to the united states. the family of miners in massachusetts are getting their day in court. this is the miners were expected to cover up any potential problems. in tonight's wjz's health watch, a study says it's okay for children under four too stake swimming lessons. in the past, the largest pediatric group said swim less sons may give the children a sense of security in the water. many parents are spacing out their children's vaccines, fearing that too many at one time can be harmful. a new study supports getting those shots on time. >> reporter: santa jones remembers her daughter's

between vaccines and autism, but no link has been found. now the study points out recent improvement in the production of vaccines also makes them safer to take. a 13-year-old is now the youngest person ever to climb mount everest. this is new video of jordan romero and climbing team at about 21,000 feet at the himalayan mountains. he still had to climb 8,000 more feet. the eighth grader from baja california climbed the summit from the thibethian side. >> you suppose he took his home work with him? >> i don't think that crossed his mind.

back soon. simon looks like a candidate. other baseball news, the texas rangers have filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy, a move to speed up the sale of the team. the filing includes players like alex rodriguez, they owe him 25 million from his original deal nine years ago. rangers owner tom hicks wants to tie up the debt to complete sale of the team to a pittsburgh group for $575 million. the team would stay in texas, that sale could be done by the all star break. basketball news, cleveland's mike brown goes from coach of the year to coach without a job. fireed from the cavaliers today after his team had the most wins in the regular season but lost in the second round of the play offs to boston. the celtics can advance to the nba finals. a win for phoenix but
