political show down. >> tonight the key races, the results and what this means for the november ballot. hello everyone i'm vic carter. >> and i'm denise koch. here is what people are talking about. >> the numbers from the polls are trickling in and the results are showing tight races. one of the most contentious the race for the baltimore city's state's attorneys office. only 5% of the districts are reporting and it's showing a race too close to call. wjz is live with complete coverage. let's begin with kai jackson who's live in terry hill. >> reporter: we're in south baltimore, jesepie she is used

to fight. she has several of them and she walked in here tonight feeling pretty confident about the results in this election. jesepie was all smiled, showing no concern. jesemie in a battle to keep her job. jesemie has been stating attorney since 1985. cease admittedly tough and says she will not give up without a fight -- she is admittedly tough. >> we are confident that the voters elected the best person. so, we'll await the return. >> reporter: jesemie is here at the baltimore rowing club. talking with supporters, it's interesting to note here denise, pat jesemie raised

endorsements. he's campaigned on tv, radio and in person. i asked her about her chances against jesemie. >> reporter: she's had a lot of endorsement, 15 years of experience. is that something easy to embark on. >> i won't be easy. but if we didn't think we could defeat her, we wouldn't have embarked. everybody is giving us the same answers, that they are tired of the crime. that they are ready for a change after 15 years and they want to see someone new. i think that's going to translate in the votes. >> reporter: we are listening to greg bernstein he has just walked into the room. he is greeting his supporters right now. he is telling supporters that he is going to be here for a short while and we will keep

in here shortly. everything is preliminary as kevin kamanetz tries to make it to the top. after 16 years on the council, kamenetz is vying for the top spot. >> i would just be so happy because kevin definitely is the better candidate. i think he is the one that can really, truly lead baltimore county. >> reporter: the 52-year-old formed a battle by highlights his experience and knowledge of county matters >> we want to keep our neighborhoods safe and our schools strong. people have been responding to that message and i'm very grateful. again, momentum is building here as they wait for the

from the -- bartenfelder camp. >> i did nothing but talk to voters and i'm hoping i changed a lot of minds. i think i did. >> i've known joe for a number of years. i've helped joe in campaigns prior to this. just the person who he is, where he comes from that's why i support joe bartenfelder. >> reporter: bartenfelder campaigned until the last minute. he was outspending his opponent 2-one. he spoke to wjz earlier today. >> we kept everything on the positive level. you know, it's about what people's priorities are. they are worried about the economy. they are worried about the budget. education is our priority and is their priority, we're going to make sure we deliver those services to them. >> reporter: so far we haven't heard from bartenfelder this

you. kai-- >> reporter: i'm sorry we could not get audio there from kai's camp. of course he's there with pat jesemi. former governor set the stage against governor o' malley. and no surprise, governor o' malley is the pick by the democrats. we are running the results of some of the other races at the bottom of the screen. we'll try to do that for you this evening. one common problem, low voter turn out. in baltimore city just 13.6% of

registered voters hit the polls today. that is way down from 25% in the 2006 primary. in baltimore county, voter turn out today was slightly lower at 12% compared to 33% of turn out in 2006. now those numbers reflect only today's votes not those from maryland's new early voting day. early voters represented 2% of eligible voters. the democratic nomination for baltimore county executives is up for grabs tonight as we've been telling you. campaign 2010 continues now with mary bubala. >> you know what a great crowd here. you guys are really enthused. to be enthused this late at night is incredible after i made every one of you start at 7:00 in the morning. so more red bull for the crowd,

there, everything but declaring victory. but as you heard him say, he is running better than expected. we're going back to kai jackson. >> reporter: we're here in south baltimore at the rowing club. how are you feeling about your chances of getting reelected or not getting reelected tonight. >> i'm feeling very good and confident. >> what have you been focusing on in the last few hours of the campaign, up until the time you voted, what were you doing? what were you trying to convey to the voters. >> i think i visited about 40 polling places today. it's always very energizing to interact with the community. i had the opportunity to talk to voters and volunteers. people who were working the polls, whether they were working for my candidacy or not i thanked them. because exercising a civic responsibility of engaging yourself in the political

process is something to be commended. >> those who know you and are close to you have said the political process is not something you prefer greatly. you prefer to do your work in a court of law sort to speak. >> i am a lawyer, but i also know that know that in order to continue be the state's attorney i have to wage a campaign. and i'm ready, willing and able to do whatever is necessary to continue to make progress in the public safety arena for the services of baltimore city. >> how has this campaign gone? there have been charges and counter charges by mr. bernstein and you about each other's conduct during this campaign. do you think you have both acted in a manner, do you think that is fitting for baltimore and the voters of this city? >> well, i know that i have. and i think that the voters will respond or have responded today and i am a person who believes in high integrity and

new in the city. very few precinct reporting. patricia jessamy at this moment has 49% of the vote. and greg bernstein47% of the vote. campaign 2010 continues with marry bubala with the kevin kkamenetz. >> we're really happy with the support we've received county wide. >> reporter: this has been a contentious battle. are you surprised that it's this close, we're waiting this late on a primary night?

>> it's not that late. but listen, joe and i have both served on the council for 16 years. we were both very well known on our parts of the county. we've been able to make nice on his turf sort to speak. those numbers are paying off. we're just waiting for those final numbers but we're very optimist. >> reporter: you have received the support of the teachers union not from the firefighters union. how do you mend fences if you win tonight? >> i'm a lifelong democrat, i know how to bring people in. people who pick sides, that's okay. i don't take that personally. what i really want to do is bring people in. if we're victorious, we're going to have a big tent and we're going to keep baltimore moving in the right direction.

this is what it's all about. >> reporter: i'm surprised to see some congressmen -- congressman comings? >> we have a changing demographic, 30% of the district is african american, i don't think they are here as african americans, i think they are here as concerned folks who know that baltimore county is a leader in the region and they want to make sure that baltimore county is moving in the right direction. i'm so grateful if for their support and the support of dr. frank reed and the support of the teachers.

in washington, i'm trying to do the same. that's why i voted to crackdown on wall street and protect the bay. and why i voted against the $3 trillion budget, the big bank bailout, and against the health care bill. you see for me it's not about democrats or republicans it's about common sense and doing what's best for our families. maybe that's why i'm ranked one of the most independent members of congress. i'm frank kratovil and i approve this message. i'm not the kind of guy who likes to hang on the sidelines.
