man opens fire inside johns hopkins hospital. >> what sparked the violence? i'm don scott. >> i'm jessica kartalija. here is what people are talking about. the unanswered questions following the frightening shooting and lock downed at the world renowned john hopkins hospital. why did the man open fire. wjz stays on the story with complete coverage. mike hellgren stays on the story. >> reporter: good afternoon. the response here a little more than 24 hours ago was massive it was quick, doctor who was shot is still being treated for his injuries. he is expected to survive. hopkins had a series of employee meetings starting at 10:00 to talk about the firsthand response to the tragedy and give those employees an opportunity for counseling after these traumatic events. the sprawling hospital campus was back to normal after a terrifying lock down yesterday that was anything but.

paul warren distraught over his mother's prognosis shot her doctor and kill her and himself. >> i was up on the 8th floor. i hear a bang. then i saw a either er a nurse or a female resident coming around the corner saying he shot the doctor, he shot the doctor. i went down ten yards and made a left and there is doctor was on the floor in the hallway. >> reporter: those returning back to work today expressed confidence in the hospital security. >> the feed back i got from family and friends, are you okay. i heard horrible things. i was like wow this is intense. >> i didn't want it to end like it did. >> reporter: he lived with his mom in arlington virginia. he had a permit to carry concealed weapon. he had no criminal record and neighbors say he was a loving devoted caretaker. >> he was a wonderful son.

as far as i could see, he was always there for her. if she had to go in the ambulance or anything, he would go with her. >> reporter: the injured doctor an orthopedic surgeon and father of two known for his sense of humor is expected to recover he was shot in the abdomen. the security responded sp put their emergency response plan in to place and by all evaluation it worked as designed. >> reporter: the hospital sent out notice to employees it will have briefings on the response today and sunday. >> this kind of thing can happen anywhere, we are a huge institution. >> reporter: there are no metal detecters and no plans to put them in the partial exception is in the er. . thank you very much. wjz has the latest on the shooting inside job hopkins, dr. david cowen is in fair
