hello everyone i'm vic carter. >> and i'm denise koch. late today, a federal grand jury sent a strong message to a man acting as a pimp, he was forcing a 12-year-old to prostitution. >> reporter: there aren't many crimes if convicted that will get you mind bars for bars, but being the pimp for a 12-year- old girl is one of them. already in jail for prostitution, derwin smith and the federal prosecutors throw the book at him. >> a 12-year-old girl was entized into prostitution by a 42-year-old man. >> reporter: it's known smith took the girl to atlantic city. it is here that they got into

an argument. she wanted him to take her home. he refused and threatened to shoot her with a gun, unless she shut up. >> mr. smith was involved in running essentially a brothel that he had multiple prostitutes working for him. >> reporter: when smith left the girl alone here in room 309 the girl didn't answer his phone calls but she did have time to call her mom. police soon arrived. >> it's fortunate that the girl was found so quickly and we were able to get the support she needed. >> reporter: during the 12 days with smith, it is known that she was promised a large home and a top spot among his prostitutes. >> there was eight kids here. six of them girls. >> reporter: he never told neighbors what he did for a living nor his name. they only knew him as smithy. >> there was a lot of yelling sometimes. >> reporter: smith is in

custody unless he pleads guilty his trial could begin here in three to four months. back to you on tv hill. prosecutors say the victim is now with her family. she is expected to testify in court at the trial. a dramatic scene in hartford county when a truck crashes into a utility pole then a house. it happened along philadelphia road and gun powder ridge. the truck lost control, slammed into the poll then hit the house where it came to a stop. today detectives searched the home of the man accused of the shooting at hopkins hospital. they were looking for any clues as to what could have led partis to shoot a doctor, then kill his mother then kill himself. today the police chief met

and now her father is in custody after a two hour stand off on a bridge. the girl's father of ambrose martinez trying to escape by climbing on the bridge. the man had taken the girl from school earlier that day. the stand off ended when he fell into the river. officials have been arrested for padding their paychecks at the expense of people who live in their community. former bell city manager rizo who had been being paid twice the salary of a u.s. president was arrested today. he was charged with corruption and misuse of funds. the state is forcing bell to come up with money to refund angry residents who have paid too much for property taxes. more flood shed of american troops in afghanistan. this time a helicopter crashes killing nine international service members. they were on a secret mission in afghanistan when the chopper went down.
