two new developments tonight in the murder of a cockiesville

native. the court date was set. george huguely's preliminary hearing is scheduled for january 21st. prosecutors say he killed love on may 3rd after the two had an argument of the the judge also denied a media request to have cameras present inside the courtroom. tonight, there are new questions regarding the death of maryland green party natasha petty grew. she was hit and killed. the family wants to know why the driver was not carried. >> reporter: dozens of people gathered at the site where the 30-year-old was hit and killed on her bike. >> i thought i hit a deer is a novel way of explaining away why you did not act responsibly. >> i hit a squirrel one day, i cried because i knew i hit it

and i stopped. >> i don't feel our elected officials are responsive to the need of our constituents. >> reporter: early morning she was riding on her bike on route 202 when she was hit by littleford. littleford continued to drive home thinking she had hit an animal. when she saw the bicycle wedged under the car, she called the police. >> i asked that we have a thorough question. >> i think the biggest question at this point is if the driver knew that she hit someone or if she really thought she hit a deer. >> the county state's attorney says the investigation could take weeks. five months after the disaster began, victims of the gufrl oil spill be being promised bigger and faster payments. the administrator for the gulf

coast claim facility say he's responding to the critics that say the payments is too small and too slow. 206 million gallons of crude spewed into the water. flood conditions are starting to improve in sections of the midwest but for some areas, the disaster isn't over yet. lucy receiver reports from wjz from minnesota. >> reporter: in many parts of minnesota and wisconsin, the flood waters are dropping but the in some places the worst is yet to come. lumber falls is a ghost town. at one point the streets looked like river and authorities evacuated the area. some of the flood waters have reseeded but people cannot go home of the national guard is keeping everyone out because the flood waters knocked out two huge propane tanks at a local gas station and it's feared they could explode. >> they said we couldn't get in to look at our place to see

what's left. >> reporter: you can see how high the fire rose at the fire department with the equipment damaged inside. people in other parts of the region are returning home to see what the flooding left behind. many are venturing downstairs to washed out basements. >> half of our life stuff is wrecked and gone. >> i've never seen the river this high before. >> reporter: daniel bremer was able to go home but the damage was so bad he had to turn around. but there is hope on the horizon. the rain that drenchd the area is gone and sunny skies are expected for the next week. >> that storm system that caused all of that flooding is headed in our direction tonight.

wjz is live with first warning weather. bernadette woods is tracking this storm. >> we're seeing part of the storm already move through today but the one with a lot of rain is going to hold off. there's nothing going on right now in our region. what we're going to do is open up and show you that one part of the storm hung back and it still has alet of rain with t it's going to dip across the south and then move into our region. there is a chance for the shower the first half of tomorrow. we know it's the home opener, but the first part of tomorrow just a chance of a shower. the more solid rain should hold off until tomorrow night or monday. update tonight on a baltimore county man who received a heart transplant during one of maryland's record blizzards this year. now he's coming together with his donor's family for a common cause. >> reporter: the blizzard in february lead david desebli to

they say he opened fire after he wasn't allowed into the party. police are offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to his arrest. a washington state police trooper is under investigation tonight, after he shot a pregnant woman. witnesses say the trooper fired a shot into a bedroom window, striking the woman under her armpit. police were executing a drug related search warrant. a partial guilty verdict. prosecutors say he ran a red light and killed the pitcher last year. the judge found him guilty of driving with a suspended license, but the jury recessed for the weekend without reaching a verdict. prescription drugs are quickly becoming a drug of choice for criminals who steal and sell them. today, maryland was part of a

nationwide effort to get rid of prescription safely, and keep them off the street. >> reporter: over the years, helen johnson collected enough prescription drugs to fill a small box. she was also a care giver for her mother-in-law. this weekend is a chance to safely trash it all, in the first ever nation drug take back program. >> gave me a chance to clean out my cabinet. >> reporter: she isn't alone. people arrived at the police station to drop off old and unused prescription drugs. walter wanted to get rid of his medicine, but the hospital wouldn't take it back. >> that's good stuff for you. but it's terrible tasting. >> reporter: the dea will take liquid medicines and pills, but needles are out. and during the take back period, agents have a no questions asked policy. >> we realize now the biggest

source of prescription drugs in the household is the medicine cabinet. >> reporter: the agent says criminals steal prescription drugs any way they can, and especially if it leads to a profit. but the takeback blocks that. >> you've heard the term dumpster diving. they'll do it, because they'll use it, or take the pills and sell them on the street. >> reporter: while police say the main purpose is to get as many prescription drugs off the street. they say another reason is to keep the drugs out of the hands of young people. >> in a recent survey a lot of teenagers say they get the drugs at home in mom and dad's medicine cabinet. >> reporter: now all these drugs are headed to an incinerator. >> the dea plans to host another takeback soon. lindsay lohan gets another
