the after math, crews worked through the night repairing the damage left by yesterday's record flooding. >> hello, i'm jessica kartalija. >> here's what people are talking about today. a powerful storm system rolls through the area and bridging heavy rains and flooding and now the crews have their hands full. and wjz-13 has complete first warning weather coverage and marty has more on how much we have and first, we'll start with mike schuh. good afternoon, mike. >> reporter: well, we're in chase, about two miles away from the martin state airport. for such a large avenue, it's shut down. as you can see, there's water across the roadway here. state highway trucks have been out blocking this almost since it all began. not allowing cars to go through and a few frustrated drivers

wondering, how do i get around the detour. this is still flooded. let me show you what happened in fells point last night. this area has sense drained >> reporter: the rain and wind came in waves. and flooding up the streets with water and traffic. >> we don't know when we'll be out of harms way. >> reporter: the pleat weren't allowing anyone near the water. >> we're trying to get over there and i parked eight blocks that way. >> we've done it twice since 2002. we had the vehicles relocated. >> reporter: many gauge this to isabelle. >> well, they're preparing more, they remember what happened. there's more activities and more roads. >> reporter: nine businesses were evacuated includes whole foods and the nearby creek floods during these rains.

that's over a 5-inch report from westminster and they had a more intense rain than any other portion of carroll county. look at the graphic, it will follow the north, south area and around there, naval hair, 9 and 3/4 inch of rain. there and i'm rounding here. and frederick and in western maryland county, 5.25 inches and vbi, 6. # 0 inches of rain and downtown, 5 3/4 inches of rain. look at wild wood, that's unbelievable. 13.80. almost 14 inches of rain in a 36 hour period! you can tell, the east west -- look at this, salisbury, under an inch. below, they're near the coast and they're clearing out. we'll have the first warning

rahm emanuel is eyeing a new office. [ indiscernible ] rahm emanuel is stepping down as white house, chief of staff to run for mayor of chicago. >> we're all very excited for rahm emanuel as he takes on a new challenge. >> reporter: his replacement is pete raus. the president will pick a permanent after the election. that makes the timing so surprising. rahm emanuel acted as the political point man twisting arms and sometimes, butting heads to advance the agenda. the white house will need that clout as the democrats struggle to contain control of congress. the chief of staff is at the center of all of the decisions working behind the scenes as gate keeper and adviser.

in today's health watch, a study shows how often unemployment and depression go hand in hand. almost 10% of adulls with depression don't have a job.

i'm frank kratovil and i approve this message. the real andy harris. buried in his website - a promise to replace the tax code with a 23% sales tax and eliminate the mortgage interest deduction. a bush tax panel said families would pay $6,000 more a year. a reagan tax advisor calls it a very dumb idea. but that's not his only bad idea. harris was the only senator to vote against expanding the child care tax credit and against the state's cancer treatment program. andy harris' extreme ideas will cost us.
