i'm mary bubala. here's what people are talk bsmght the massive system brought double digit rainfall totals. bge crews have been working around the clock to fix outages. they were fixing lights earlier today. the mighty storm took its time moving through. bob has incredible rainfall totals and we begin with gigi barnett who is live along jones falls. gigi? >> reporter: these folks are trying to get back to normal, trying to get the water out and power back. so far bge said 54,000 people

now have power, but they have a ways to go. nonstop rain flooded streets across maryland and wiped out power for thousands. basements were also flooded. >> everything's gone. >> reporter: the water washed out sewers too. bge crews worked evertime it restore power to some 54,000 customers. >> we've been cleaning since 8:30. they tried to use sandbags to keep the water out. it didn't work much for ryan. he owns a hot dog shop. >> it went up the back alley and in through the rear doors. everybody got a taste of it. >> reporter: this is the jones falls within day after the storm. bge said at the height of the storm they about 700 people

working to restore power. they say they will continue to work overtime until everyone as their power and electricity restored. >> bob's in the first warning weather center with more. >> we didn't have these kind of rainfall amounts with hurricanes or tropical storms, but this wasn't either one. we still have precipitation in the form of rain from boston, to nantucket. we've cleared out nicely, around 3 or 4 a.m. let's take a look at some of the numbers. the naval air station, over a foot of rain. annapolis almost nine inches. frederick west of us at five and a quarter. 6.0 downtown, but the winner st. mary's county.

boy, are we drying out and that sunshine looks so nice. >> so nice and this morning when the sun came out and the breeze picked up, it dried things up. we still have, at least for harford, poreses of baltimore county, aa county and st. mary's county all that rain. take a look at radar. to our north there is the storm. good-bye and good riddens. what a mess that was. many areas picking up at least a foot. we're talking four to six to eight inches. the most of it fell east and

we want to stay with some breaking news. let's go quickly to captain mike perry. a mastiff two alarm fire. >> hello, vic. we are in dundalk baltimore county. the entire building has collapsed. this was a five-story disstill ri. just a few moments ago we saw the roof structure burning rather heavily. the front side of this fire of

the disstillery collapsed. just as we came on the air, pretty much the rest of the building, which is constructed out of brick with wood interior, fell completely in on itself. fortunately, at this point we don't believe there are any injuries. firefighters pulled back a safe distance. as soon as they got on the scene, they sought heavy smoke and two or more pieces of fire apparatus are on the way to the scene. they initially requested fire investigators because they believe apparently this type of fire would not start all by itself, so this being an abandoned building, this was an old whiskey factory across from dundalk high school. at this point, as you can see, the fire has collapsed on to

itself. it continues to burchlt the wood structure continues to burn. it looks like right now the fire department is in solely exsteer your -- exterior operations. >> take a look at where this s i see there are other buildings there. is there any danger to the ajapes sent billed -- adjacent buildings? >> reporter: this high wind is assisting this fire. it's sort of feeding it more oxygen but there are other buildings abandoned. they're part of the same whiskey plant that have been abandon for as long as i can remember, as long as i've been a policeman, 25 years and another 10 years doing this. they had other buildings on the property they were using to make beer. they removed several of the big brass caldrons inside from two

other buildings on the property two years ago but these buildings remain. whether there was anything being stored in these buildings or not, i do not know. >> thank you, captain mike perry reporting. we'll check back in with him as this story continues to develop. >> the other big story, the tropical system now playing new england. randall pinkston reports for wjz. >> reporter: the water was almost waist high in new york's suburbs. people were forced to abandon their cars. parts of philadelphia are under water after close to a foot of rain. cars are submerged in place and the rushing waters pushed these two dumpsters down the street. many homes and stores are flooded. firefighters had to use a ladder truck to rescue people. what's left of a tropical storm has been moving up the east

coast for two days bringing winds up to 60 miles an hour. broken trees and power lines have left tens of thousands without electricity. most of the area saw five inches of rain in a couple hours. drivers are hoping the commute home will be easier. authorities were forced to reroute traffic. it took some drivers hours to get to work. >> i'm late and the boss it not happy. >> reporter: the rain has stopped in north carolina but it left a major mess in carolina beach. many streets are under water and the local lake is overflowing. >> there's no way to keep up. >> reporter: while the end of the woke was a washout, the rain is expected to clear out

and taller guardrails. there could be a new twist in the murder of jonbenet ram sigh. police are planning to question her brother again. investigators in boulder, colorado, would like to speak with jonbenet's older brother burke. he was nine when she was found with a cord, bludgeoned in the basement of their colorado home. he is now 23 years old. he was cleared by dna but investigators are hoping to jog new memories. suspicion first focused on jonbenet's parents but they were also cleared. dna evidence points to an unknown outsider. >> jonbenet's mother patsy died of ovarian cancer. in healthwatch, flu season officially begins today. unlike last year's season there

through the 31st. back over to you. we have a live update on this developing story we've been telling you b let's go to captain mike perry over a huge fire in dundalk. >> reporter: this is sours point and across from dundalk high school where an old vacant distiller ri has caught fire. it has now collapsed completely on itself. the fire department has two alarm worth of equipment. they continue to feet it with exterior operations using the heavy ladder pipes. at this point the fire is pretty much burning itself out from what has fallen down on it se. earlier we had very, very heavy smoke and flames coming from the roof area. the origin of the fire is not

known. we note fire personnel requested fire investigators. i don't know if they'll have a lot left to investigate. as you can see, this building has burned in its entire ri. it is a very, very large five- story abandoned distillery building. you can see some of the timbers. primarily brick construction on the outside, heavy wood timbers on the inside. that's what cause lad lot of the fire and the smoke that was coming from the roof area but that has long since collapsed. there are no reports of injuries. they got themselves away from this building rather quickly when they saw it begin to deteriorate. so no one injured, but as you can see, the heavy effort

scene. you see in the foreground menix bar and looks like con nellly funeral home. now firefighters are concerned that this last remaining wall could potentially collapse on to one of these two structures. as you see, they're doing the best they can to extinguish the fire. that is the only major concern at this point. the rest of this building basically has collapsed on itself. it started shortly after 5:00 when firefighters were called for a first alarm. the first arriving unit found an abandoned distillery unit. they began exterior operations when the floors collapsed onto each other. smoke and flames broke through the roof. they initially ordered it a second alarm and ordered units to get away. when that collapse occurred just a short time ago, most of

still have a flood warning for porgeses of harford county -- portions of harford county, aa county and st. mary's as well because of the rain. tonight with the winds going out of the northwest, chilly air moving in, boy, just flooded the entire east coast. this was this morning's scene. we have rain off the coast, and we cleared out, got the sunshine and drier air coming behind. it the only problem is upstream. another weak pressure will get stuck across portions of virginia. it may stick along the coast. that will probably bring us a chance of rain shower activity, labor a shower sunday night. pittsburgh, shower possible and only 54 on sunday. monday and tuesday, this low will sit around with cool temperatures. winds off the ocean, probably light rain and drizzle and a breeze, which means monday,

so i worked for a $2,500 tax credit to help pay for college. fought to get pell grants expanded and insisted that college loans go directly to kids instead of through banks. i'm barbara mikulski. i approve this message. because it's not about the next election, it's about the next generation. right? yeah!!!
