a baltimore county man is charged in the disappearance of his wife. the prosecutors will prove he's a killer even though a body hasn't been found. >> i'm jessica kartalija. >> and i'm don scott. it was a case that grabbed the head lines, a baltimore county man charged with killing his wife four years ago. wjz is live in towson. mike hellgren has the latest on the highly emotional trial. >> reporter: good afternoon, jessica and everyone. and several witnesses testified this morning as the prosecution builds the case. one of the most significant is a police officer on the stand right now, he wrote the initial missing person's report and he said he was told that the man

and his wife were going through a divorce and he provided a contact number and address of another man she was seeing. he's on trial for murdering his wife, tracey, the case is unusual, her body hasn't been found, one of few such cases tried in maryland." >> the defense is that the state can't prove beyond a reasonable doubt there was a murder and much less that my client was guilty. >> reporter: tracey disappeared five years ago, she was heading to a motley crue concert in washington, d.c. and never made it. the police found the video of her car ten days later and she was gone without a trace. her case was profiled nationally. >> and i wanted to find her and i'm prying the whole time, don't let me be the one to do it. >> reporter: her husband dennis

was arrested last year. his trial was supposed to last two weeks. >> reporter: the prosecution is going to place video surveillance in court day. they've been having difficulties trying to play that for the jury this morning. reporting live in towson. mike, thank you. the jury is made up of seven women and five men. a string of fatalities has police urging everyone to be careful. >> reporter: most of the cases, the police say that the pedestrians may be to blame. early sunday morning, a car hit two 26-year-old men in montgomery county and a few days before, a 28-year-old woman was killed while crossing that road and time and time again, the pedestrians are jaywalking in high traffic areas.

12 have been hit and killed in montgomery county so far this year, including one late last night on i-270. eight of those were caused by pedestrian errors. and thank you, they're asking people to walk smarter especially at night. and we're following breaking news in baltimore city. cap tap mike perry has more. >> reporter: a pickup truck has overturned. this occurred a short time ago, you can see the fire officials cleaning up from where it overturned. it's not clear how it happened at this point. two plane -- lanes are blocked. you can't get around the scene, but expectty lays. -- expect delays. the parents of a baltimore teen are looking for answers after their son was killed.

the parents of a 19-year-old say it's taken days to get the basic information. a week ago, an officer collided with the car he was driving in. he's a former police officer and he works for the annapolis force now. and four young men are recovering after they were stabbed at the university of maryland college park's bar. it was around closing time last night. the fight spilled into the street and they were stabbed outside of another bar. no arrests are made. the man charged at fort hood texas will face his accusers today. as we report, a lot of people have been waiting for this day. >> reporter: in this courthouse on the base grounds, the shooter is sitting a few feet

from his victims the military calls this a civilian grand jury proceeding. >> just has been frustrating. and i'm glad we're finally to this point because the process needs to continue. >> reporter: her husband was among the dead last november 5th and he was an army psychiatrist, he's charged with 13 counts of murder and 32 counts of a premeditated murder. >> and i've gone through the bad phases of the grief process, it's a long way to go. >> reporter: the security is tight especially when he's escorted in and out of the courtroom. the media is kept from looking at him. he's still in a wheelchair and paralyzed from the waist down after being shot.

one of the officers was injured and is expected to testify. and the hearing will last three weeks and will determine whether or not hasan will have a full trial. he could face the death penalty. and the military judgen't whats to hear from all 32 of the wounded in the attack. and hasan lived in maryland for his training. and anticipation is building in chile as the crews are bringing the miners to the surface. the first miner should reach the surface today. they should be pulled to safety one by one. they've been put on a special diet and they'll be wearing special compression socks. there's very precise

protocol for the treatment of the miners.
