honor one of their own. including pars to kevin brown, a retired city offer who worked with stevenson -- including pastor kevin brown. >> wonderful person to work with, always wanted to help over people so it's a tragedy. >> reporter: steveson leaves behind a wife and four children after he was killed over what police call a fight over a parking space. he was just hours away from turning 38 years old. >> this service is the first of two funerals set for this week to honor fallen baltimore city police officer. three officers have lost their life. the tragedy has shaken the department. fowler and ports were both killed in automobile accidents. police are carrying on as best as able. >> they're going to keep answering calls and keeping the city safe because that's what jimmy would have wanted, that's

buffalo bills and they nearly broke their winless streak, but the ravens rallied to get an upset. there are what we feel are sunday certainties and sunday surprises. baltimore did some good things, ed reed returned with an outstanding game that included two interceptions. and the ravens did a good thing, gaining, forcing overtime. the defense was exposed. but ray lewis saved the day by taking the ball from the bills in overtime. that led to a game losing embarrassing field goal. 37-34. >> in the end of the day, the w is what counts. hats off to those guys they fought hard. probably should have won but we have a good team over here too.

adam may has details. >> reporter: this incident has not only surprised a lot of parents but it's also raising some interesting questions surrounding the schools background checks. tyree miles has been arrested for trying to sell a gun on school. busted during a sting operation arrested bid police. prosecutors say the alleged motive was simply cash. >> according to the charging documents, miles needed money to buy a birthday gift for his child. >> sounds like the key witness in this case is actually a school resource office who was there for the controlled buy. >> a school police officer was approached by miles and asked to consider buying the assault weapons on school ground in mid- october this year. >> reporter: also according to court documents this year, miles bought the assault weapon for $100, he was trying to sell

it for $500. no one answered the door, when we stopped by asking for comment. miles faced a drug charge in 2008. school officials claim they did a background check but parents say they want more information. >> i just think it's wrong that they didn't let anybody know. that's terrible. >> we need to find out what's going on? who's the judge up there. >> reporter: now even though the 2008 drug charges were not prosecuted, miles was also arrested on possession charges in 1998 that case ended with probation just moments ago i talked to a school official who told me that the background check revealed that there was nothing that would disqualify him from employment. however the latest allegations did result in his immediate termination. adam may, back to you kai. >> during the summer another man was arrested on sexual misconduct charges. if you're waiting for someone to get home from work, let's check in on the roads.

local high school. winds of 110 miles per hour destroyed the roof of one building and destroyed the football towers. train carts were brown on to the field. so far only minor injuries have been reported. to the north another twister ripped apart homes at the town of oak road. it began as a hailstorm before a funnel cloud moved in. >> within less than a minute, i could hear it destroying something. >> reporter: officials are setting up temporary classrooms to get kids back in school as soon as possible. randall pinkston, wjz eyewitness news. the severe weather moved through alabama overnight causing more damage. one person was killed by lightning. >> it's like the second most active time for these kinds of storms. spring and also this time of

looks like a strain sky doesn't it. >> it does. >> we had a few showers that popped up, not yet but it's still possible later on this evening. you see a few showers to the west of us, a little heavier batch to the south of us moving through portions of the st. mar mary's county. around that area, heavier showers moving across the southern bay. so from salisbury to ocean city maybe as far west as cambridge, you will see some of these showers in the next hour or two. way out to the west, some light stuff. basically not even in the state but across west virginia.

vehicles is trapped currently. a rescue assignment is under way. they've requested a medivac helicopters. so this is at least an extended operation. they have two lanes blocked. looks like police now are looking to possibly block a third lane northbound so expect major delays. you see them coming to the scene now and a helicopter will be here momentarily. we'll stay on scene and keep you updated. >> captain mike perry reporting live. it was a landmark in baltimore's inner harbor. but today workers at the espn zone protested the way the restaurant was shut down. why they say the restaurant's owner walt disney company violated their human rights. >> reporter: these workers are

slamming disney, saying the company violated human rights when they shut down. a tough blow for the interharbor and for 150 former employees. >> we were like a family here. i loved coming here every day to work, i loved it. >> reporter: but some of those workers say disney failed to tell them they were closing. >> i saw it on facebook. the way it came down we had no notice. by the time we actually started looking, the job market has sort of thundered. so yeah, we're still looking some of us. >> some of these workers ended up homeless. >> reporter: attorney freeman filed a lawsuit demanding disney pay them wages under an act that gives workers a 60 day notice. >> that's what these folks are entitled to. >> now it's time to say

goodbye. >> reporter: with the help from the united workers association some of those workers took their complaint to the interharbor then to the courthouse. some workers say one of their biggest challenge is finding a job. >> unlike the other workers i do have a degree behind me and i'm having problems. >> reporter: disney has 60 days to respond, it could take up to a year for the lawsuit to play out. derek valcourt. >> today a spokesperson says the espn zone has met legallology o bligation and the lawsuit is without merit. a woman is in the hospital after a person sat her on fire. howard county police say richard rodola suffered minor burns in the incident and is being guarded at john hopkins bay view medical center.

the victim remains in critical condition. the father of a missing north carolina girl has been arrested and charged with writing bad checks. denise is in the newsroom with the latest and twist in this bizarre case. >> reporter: police say the charges are not related to the disappearance of zhara baker. the girl's mother has been charged with obstruction of justice and is still in jail. she admitted writing a bogus ransom letter on the day of the girl's disappearance. a woman known for a bad case of hick ups is accused with murder. now the hick ups eventually

went away, now the 19-year-old and two other men are charged with murder. meek lured a man to a home in florida where he was robbed and shot. a health crisis in haiti continues to spread. today the total of cholera cases is increasing. cholera is an infection of the small intestine that can cause severe diarrhea. well the chandra levy murder trial is now on the way. the man on trial today is not the man who had all the attention. but the tie with a congressman is still having an impact. we have more from washington.

in health watch tonight, postpartum depression can be bad for new moms but it can also affect their babies. sandra hughes reports for wjz and has more on the story and why pediatricians can do to help fight the condition. >> reporter: when molly perrier gave birth to her son, it was not the moment that she thought it would be. she had regret. and the condition is not only damaging for the mother, research shows it can also harm an infant's development. >> if there's severe depression in mothers, the babies are not as interactive and verbal.

they can grow up being depressed. >> reporter: detecting postpartum depression has been left in the hands of the mother's doctor. but now it's being recommended that the child's doctor takes part of it. >> watch out for the ones that are not happy about a new baby, watch out for the ones that are not eating or sleeping. and not be afraid to ask how they are doing. >> reporter: and they are asking that doctors recommend counseling. >> pediatricians are the best ones to detect postpartum depression because they see the mothers so frequently. more than 400,000 babies are born to women who suffer
