lz lz hundreds of homes have been in the line of a tornado and many are looking for a place for thanksgiving. and mike schuh has the cleanup effort. good afternoon, mike. >> reporter: good afternoon, don. what the people know is it's a mess and a heart ache. and everyone is trying to pick up parts of their lives. at 1:30, no one was up and outside in the dark during the storm to see a tornado.

what was left behind looked like tornado damage. isolated along a narrow and short path, hitting dutch village. >> i was hit in the face with some sort of debris. >> reporter: the wind skipped neighborhoods and touched down in the county. >> it was crazy. >> reporter: the results are in and it was a tornado. it's hard to believe it's the weakest category of those they measure. >> i've never seen anything like that. >> reporter: weak tornado and strong disruption. >> let me get my place and clipers, and i'll walk away. >> reporter: many of heart aches. >> i'm still here. that's all that matters to me. i'm safe. >> reporter: and here are the numbers, 450 homes between the county and the city were effected, most of them minor and 54 were condemned here in the city. in the county, they won't say

condemned, but it's unsafe. three people or three homes in the county were affected city's found places for everyone who's affected here. nontheless, as the holidays are here, there's a lot of heart ache for the people who woke up in the middle of the night and found that the life they knew changed. reporting live, mike schuh, wjz- 13 eyewitness news. thank you, mike and we'll continue to follow the changed lives tonight. months after shooting a family pet in a dog park, a federal police officer is having his day in court. ron matz is live with the latest. good afternoon, ron. well, hi, don. the federal police officer who shot the dog last year will appear in court later on today. the 32-year-old says he shot

the dog known as bear bear after he attacked his dog, bear bear was off of his leash, but the owners say he was friendly and the officer overreacted and the shooting sparked out rage among laters. they gathered to hold a vigil for the dog. >> he's charged with animal cruelty and firing his gun too near homes. he faces fines. and now, the story of dogs abused. the police are trying to find out who's behind a dog fighting ring. they found six abused pit bulls in a home and another dog was found dead and some have bite marks on their faces and broken and filed down teeth. the police are persons of interest and no arrests have been made. the court officials have

weather center. well, good afternoon, don. we have a day around 55 degrees and right now, we're at 51. we'll look at the temperatures around central maryland. 50 on the shore and 36 in oakland. cooler spots on the map and we have 50s and 40s around the state and 47 in hagerstown and the winds are coming from the west at 7 mire and -- miles per hour and it's bringing in chillier wind and that couldn't mean cold. there are other things we're focused on and for more, we'll head out to marty. good afternoon, it's a purple friday in baltimore and it's going to be a great day in north carolina on sunday. that's at the big bank of america stadium. and the ravens are taking on the carolina panthers! look at how gorgeous it will be. sunny and warm and a high of 70 degrees.

we have 39% humidity and a west, northwest wind and bring anything chilly air, it's still comfortable. we have 46 in elkton and up across the state, we have temperatures in the mid-to upper 40s and hagerstown and cumberland and 52 towards d.c. and the winds are coming in at 52 miles per hour. and the northwest flow, that's keeping the temperatures down today and we'll save a little at or above the norm. and we have some formation in the middle of the country, it will get here by the middle of the week. it's going to bring rain hour way just before thanksgiving. then, we'll start to see the temperatures dropping after thanksgiving. that's heading into the weekend and black friday. you'll want to dress for the cooler air if you're heading out to the stores that morning cooler air is staying with us and we'll warm up nicely in between times and for the weekend, the temperatures going to be about 60 degrees.
