we have breaking news, the jury has reached a verdict in the trial of chan tra lev. why he is charged with the murder. she was killed in 2001 in washington's rock creek park. prosecutors say it fit as pattern of attacks done by the suspect. the jury will have the verdict shortly. we'll have more on www.wjz.com when it happens. the strange story here that led to a police standoff, a correction officer was murdered at a friend's house but they find blood on her own apartment. derek valcourt is live outside of police headquarters. >> reporter: the officer knew her killer but they will not say how. they thought they had that killer cornered yesterday but

today he is still on the loose. a tense few hours as the police surround the apartment of sharon jones after she was shot to death at her friend's house on the 1700 block of asquist street. police went to her apartment looking for clues. >> web they be -- when they came to the location they saw blood on the door and reason to believe that the individual was inside. they contacted s.w.a.t. >> reporter: police blocked off streets and kept people inside. when they entered the apartment hours later it was empty, neighbors say jones lived with her boyfriend and daughter. many are heartbroken over her death. >> it is heartbreaking. it is close to home. >> terrible. ky not believe it. she is a correction officer. a proud person. nowky not understand what happened. >> it is sad she had to do that and her daughter has to grow up

without her. >> reporter: police say today they still have not been able to speak with the victim's boyfriend although they will not call him a suspect or a person of interest in the case. and live at police headquarters. >> a team who used to live here is found -- a teen who lived to live here was found dead in massachusetts. delvonte tisdale went missing last week. his body was found later in boston. it is said to be so brutal an autopsy could not determine his cause of death. no arrest has been made. therere has been an arrest in a man left along i-70. he shot him in dc and left him in a box. no information on a motive for that murder. and this of course is the busiest travel week of the year

and a new set of measures could make for problems across the country. joel brown has the latest on how this could affect your thanksgiving travel. >> reporter: a vocal group of passengers say they are fed up with being scanned or patted down. >> the body scanners are invasive and they show too much and they are not necessary. >> reporter: and there must be other ways to protect the flying public besides using scans that show the image of the body. passengers who refuse the scan face a patdown that some officials could do without. >> would you submit to one of these? >> not if i could avoid it. [ laughter ] no who would? >> reporter: the security lines here are not too bad but wednesday there could be gridlock at airports across the country, protestors are asking people to refuse the 10-second scans and opt for a patdown

that could take up to four minutes. >> what i hope they consider the majority of people, they want to get home for the holidays and spend time with family. >> reporter: officials say they understand the concerns and evaluating the procedures but they will not make any drastic changes. the latest poll shows four out of five americans say the tight security is a small price to pay for safety. >> i would rather give up privacy than worry about something on a plane. >> reporter: 20% of air passengers are asked to submit to the body scans. airlines are saying to leave plenty of time at the airport this week. joel brown, wjz news, eyewitness news. >> one researcher who developed the scan said it would end if the officials distorted the images so they would be less revealing. after the election one caughted congressman has set his eye on 2012. he had one term in office and
