hello, again. >> here is what people are talking about today. we're seeing severe weather move through the area today after a gorgeous start to our week. taking a live look outside right now threatening clouds still hanging around wjz is live with first morning weather. they are tracking the storm. >> we do have a lot of rain still lingering. the strongest of the storms has gotten out of here. we're going to take you back through those storms. there were some really strong ones right in here. gusty winds over 60 miles per hour have been reported especially south of the dc in here with that line. then it moved off to the east, but behind it all this rain has been filling in. something else has been happening farther to the west. >> not only did we have the rain and thunderstorms come through overnight, but it is really taking the warm air with

was 17 degrees warmer. give it a day and watch the weather change. nothing is truer. a big cold front has come through the area and that is going to set the plate for a temperature rollercoaster we'll see over the next few days. bernadette woods has that coming up shortly. thank you. to our south the fast moving storms are blamed for six death ks. this was in north carolina. widespread power outages reported with more than 250,000 customers losing power in georgia alone. the federal government is mandating new safety inspections after a hole ripped over in a southwest airlines jet. the current inspection isn't anywhere near neuroenough. >> good afternoon. normal inspections don't cover this kind of cracking and

southwest has so many short flights that their planes are more prone to metal fatigue some say. after a mass sav hole hope pend the government is ordering emergency inspections for most 737s. they have completed inspections for some. some had to be cancelled. >> this is a very strong action. what they are finding is that the joints where the skin comes together at the most pressurized part of the aircraft, prior to this it has never been inspected except visually. >> the inspections use electromagnetic current. the plane that ripped open had been in service more than 15 years with more than 40,000 takeoffs and landings. >> it stretches this open and

depressure rise it and shrinks back down. you do that over and over it is like breaking a lid off a tuna can, you eventually get cracks. >> this happened two years ago where part of the fuselage ripped over in the air. the aircraft are no longer manufactured. southwest said they never new about the potentials for any problems where the panels are attached together. they are calling for stricker inspection kind lines. >> if you have problems there, you're creating a potential safety problem and southwest has never had a fatal incident. it is a good idea to check ahead. >> back to you don. a small plane with three people on board crashlanded on the eastern shore last night just short of the runway.

all three men or board are seriously injured but expected to survive. investigators think the wind flipped the plane over as it was coming in for a landing. a local teen is dead after a boating accident. a tenth grader was taking part in an exchange program. she is from lutherville and her hosts were killed. and back here transportation authority police are asking for your help after a motorcyclist was killed just after the orioles game last night. the 23-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. if you saw the crash you're asked to call (443)324-8894. the john hopkins university student run over by a bike is not expected to recover now.

he fell into a coma when he was hit by an 83-year-old woman trying to turn in front of him. in a statement from the doctors, it is a permanent injury and he is not expected to recover cognitive function. if the deal cannot be reached the federal government could shut down. both parties are now wash the members to get ready. >> government budget talks are stalled unless something changes, that pavings the way for the federal government to temporarily shut down friday night. the finger pointing has already begun. >> tea party republicans refuse to recognize their budget is an appalling proposal. president obama called leaders from both sides to the white house this morning to try

and breakthrough the stalemate. here on capitol hill the focus is on a spending plan that will fund the government from now to september. democrats offered $33 billion in cuts to that budget but republicans say that is not enough. >> we have said we don't want to shut government down. >> they are saying you have to make the cuts we want. >> both sides know if there is no deal by friday, the government will be out of funds. republicans issued instructions on how congress will operate if the shut down happens. the fight is just the beginning. once ney strike a deal on that, lawmakers will take up next year's budget. the gop announced its plan this morning with trillions in cuts. democrats already say it cuts too much but republicans argue it is time to stop putting off the pain.

welcome back. well this is what we have going on on the radar. the storms moved through overnight the that strong line prompted a tornado watch and severe thunderstorm warning but that is out of here. off to the northwest it has been mixing with snow out in the mountains. so, yes, another storm moving through here this spring. the winds turned around and that is bringing in much cooler air. wind gusts have been up over 30 miles per hour. 37 this past hour. compared to yesterday at this time, we were 24 degrees cooler. here comes that cooler air behind the front. that leaves us at 45 degrees. we hit our highs early in the day and temperatures have been falling ever since.

this is what we have going on through the entire country. it is such a massive storm. it has produced since yesterday, during the day yesterday over 1,000 reports of severe weather. at this point it is starting to move away. still some severe weather in florida and along the carolinas but behind that line, some rain, but that is not severe weather. on the northern side there is all that wintry weather moving across upstate new york and pennsylvania. here is what we have the next few days. we get rid of that. then behind it's a little bit of a break, but another will pass by. we'll get clouds front it, the slightest chance for a shower but very small chance and then that gets out over here and then a warmup in the next few days. as far as the forecast goes it is going to be interesting the next few days. our ups and downs continue. for tonight we'll continue to cool down. then after tonight we drop into
