come on! >> nearly 10 years after the 9/11 attack. >> how navy seals took out the most wanted man in the world. good afternoon. i'm kai jackson. >> and i'm mary bubala live in washington, d.c. today, a moment -- monumental day for our country as the most wanted man is taken out. we're in front of the white house. we talked with several people, a tourist, a man from maryland to came and held a sign with a special message. first, the latest on the death of osama bin laden. the white house says dna confirmed osama bin laden was killed by a team of navy seals who stormed his compound. >> osama bin laden is dead and just this has been done. >> reporter: new details are

emerging. president obama made the decision to launch the mission friday. he based it on cia intelligence indicating bin laden was most likely inside the million dollar compound about 35-mile north of islamabad. two u.s. black hawk helicopters swooped in early monday morning. one developed mechanical problems but was able to land. a commander shot bin laden in the head and two others. the raid took 45 minutes. no u.s. military was hurt. bin laden was then buried at sea. >> we won a very significant victory by killing osama bin laden. this will put al qaeda on defense for awhile. >> reporter: the homeland security is warning about possible retaliation. >> there's no doubt al qaeda will continue to pursue attacks us. we must and we will remain

and the female ran away without cash. >> anyone with information is asked to call cream stoppers. tips will remain anonmust. one person is dead in arkansas after strong storms caused possible problems in a state already saturated with rain. flood watches continue throughout most of the state. of concern today is the white river which flows through north central arkansas. already it's more than six feet above flood stage. the rain most likely won't stop in arkansas until next tuesday. much calmer outside. there's a mix of sun and clouds and a breeze. meteorologist bernadette woods is here with the possibility of showers. we're going to start out with temperatures before we get to the showers. take a look. we've gotten into the 70s across most of the state with the warm front that has finally cleared out. what it's doing, we'll show you radar. there are thunderstorms off to our north and making their way

good afternoon. i'm mary bubala. live from washington, d.c. reaction pouring in from across the nation to the death of osama bin laden. here in washington, d.c. security is tight, but that is not stopping many, many tourists and others from coming to the nation's capital. the weather turned out to be decent, even hot for those who dressed for cold rainy conditions. for more, here's meteorologist bernadette woods. that's right. we did warm it up despite the clouds. let me show you radar. there are a couple of thunderstorms off to the northwest. they will skirt by parts of western maryland. we'll see better chance. let's take you back first.

we had that rain yesterday. it kept a chill in the area. we're in the warm air. they also saw a few peeks of sunshine and then the wind started to pick up out of the south. with that southerly wind, not only are we warming up, the dew points are up. so it's feeling somewhat muggy. 74 in baltimore. 75 in d.c. right now. so far today that has been our high an the average sup to 70 degrees. we're above average. we'll romaine above average tomorrow before the cold front comes our way. this is the cold front out to the west. it's already caused severe weather yesterday on the southern side and is again today. then it moves our way for tomorrow. when that happens what we're expecting is a mix of clouds and sunshine. when the front arrives, there's a chance for not only thunderstorms but strong to severe thunderstorms. this is the hear being highlighted. of course, if any watches or

warnings come out, we'll be passing those along to you. after we get those thunderstorms, they will change over to a rain tomorrow night. that will continue before coming to an end. when that happens our warmup tomorrow will take a big hit on wednesday by about 20 degrees. then we'll get a nice break on thursday before another storm comes our way on friday. the forecast looks like this. we'll see a small craft advisory go back into effect during the day. with the winds picking up at 10 to 15 knots. tonight we have a mild one. we're only going down into the 50s, mostly cloudy, possibly some fog and a spotty shower but tomorrow clouds and sun. we warm up to the 80s. as we get the thunderstorms going it could become strong to severe. if any watches or warnings come out, we'll let you know. >> we're seeing evidence of the rain. grass is green. things are budding. >> some of the areas it's

alert until there's actual intelligence, something in the pipeline. the folks in the cia say there's no discernible evidence that any kind of plot is afoot. that said, we have to move to a higher state of vigilance because it's common sense that there are a number of peernlings al qaeda -- people, al qaeda operatives who would like to exact some kind of revenge in bin laden's name. if you look at the jihaddist websites and blogs, they're on fire with revenge. common sense dick kates we have to keep our eyes open. >> in washington, d.c. some evidents coming in that will may be more visible security on metro, amtrak and other areas that might be vulnerable. >> that's right. we know from history that al

qaeda would like to target transportation. 9/11 was all about using airplanes. they hit trains in london, in madrid. there's a fascination, longstanding fascination with aviation and transportation. those sectors are known targets and vulnerable, especially in the train area. also, we can't know where the next attack might play out. it could be something like a neighborhood or shopping mall or god forbid a school or hospital. we saw what a lone person did at ft. hood under the inspiration of al qaeda. so because of that, public places where people gather, where people move, these are all the places we have to take a few extra precautions. people need to be aware, not paranoid but aware. the terror threat is not over. >> thank you for joining us. >> my pleasure. thank you. >> remember, wjz is always on.

barber shop in springfield where police say the suspect was looking for revenge. he escaped from prison last week. he went to the barbershop to get revenge of the shooting of his mother earlier in the week and allegedly shot two people in the barber shop and hid in the trunk of the car. when police opened the trunk, kirkland opened fire. the police returned fire shooting him and he is in critical condition. >> two officers suffered non-life-threatening injuries. a study shows children can you can bic -- unbuckle themselves from seat belts by the age of four. researchers also found that boys try to get out of the seats more than girls. moving into may, it's prime-time for guarding, spending more time outside and it's prime-time for stink bugs but there may be a safe new way to get rid of the irritating pests. we have more on the stink bug

government panel recommend against screening in the group. we have the report. >> reporter: leah had her first mammogram at 430. she never expected her doctor would find cancer. under current government recommendations she wouldn't have been screened for years. 2009 a task force recommended women do not need a regular mammogram until they are 50 years old. new research suggests fewer women in their 40s are getting them. a colorado study found a drop in mammogram in those women in the nine months after the guidelines were issued. >> we've seen an overall reduction in the preportion of american eligible women having annual screenings. this has been a trend. it may be that the trend is exspecs waited by the guideline. >> reporter: the american cancer society isn't embracing the new guidelines and still recommend

that most women should start getting mammograms at age 40. a second study shows those who got mammograms often caught them at an earlier, more treatable stage. >> the strides we made in reducing the death rates from breast cancer have been in part due to our emphasis on early detection. >> reporter: thanks to her mammogram, leah's case was caught early. >> my case is an example of somebody totally healthy and risk free and did have the cancer. >> reporter: if she had waited to get her mammogram, she might not be alive today. in los angeles, sandra hughes. >> the guidelines have not changed for those at high risk. we have breaking news, very serious accident. captain mike perry is live in sky eye chopper 13. >> reporter: this is off of
