for two deaths. plenty of people were just trying to stay in the shade today. baltimore county has already decided to close school early tomorrow. taking a live look outside. a heat advisory will go into effect. wjz is live with first warning weather. bob turk and meteorologist bernadette woods have the weather. >> we have two or three day similar like last week coming our way. if you have breathing issuing stay inside. down by the shore 85 in ocean city. now for tomorrow afternoon, beginning at noon we have a heat advisory go into effect. for much of that region there, all across central maryland, virginia as well. also an air quality alert, because the air quality is going to be going into the four ranges. it began to our northeast

around the region and excessive heat warning. the heat will probably make you feel more like 100 even 105 degrees in some spots up that way. and we'll take a look at what's causing the heat in the next 48 hours. >> there's an intense heat wave and tomorrow it moves our way. today it started creeping in our direction but it really peeks out tomorrow -- really peaks out tomorrow and thursday. when you factor in the high heat and humidity it will feel closer to 100 to 105 in some locations. we want to update where the heat will come in. the record is 97 and we're still going to be in that

york lawmaker admits he twitted a sexually explicit photo to a seattle woman. and then lied about it. weiner is now facing a ethics investigation and he's getting addressing down from some of his closest allies including democratic leader nancy pelosi. the congressman admits to contacting six women. now he's hoping to hold on to his congressional seat. >> who's taking over what health care plan. >> reporter: he's been an outspoken liberal voice, but this scandal might compromise his influence on legislation. >> he won't be able to do that until this blows over. >> reporter: weiner came clean nearly two weeks after he said someone hacked into his twitter

account and only after brightfard posted pictures on his website. >> i think perhaps he's offered a limited version of the truth. >> reporter: brigthfard has warned weiner he will postan explicit nude picture if he retaliates. the defense team for a baltimore police officer got its chance today to chip away at the prosecution's case. wjz is live at east courthouse. mike hellgren has the latest. >> reporter: they began their case by calling the victim's sister to the stand. a reluctant witness and a packed courtroom lung to her every -- hung to her every word. >> it was wrong.

>> reporter: one year later, she was calm in court as she recounted her brother's last moments alive. the defense called kangli hopes what they believed were inconsistencies in her statement boasting the fact that these this was a self- defense case. >> i think she reenforces all of the elements that are being proven by the prosecution. that teshambi was aggressive. >> reporter: the brother smacked the officers female friend in her backside. and teshambe without identifying himself as a police officer called out, now what? do it again? get your -- explatives "on the

ground. during her testimony she was momentarily rattled as teshambi stood up to watch her reenactment. she says officer teshambe identified himself as with the police and said he was going to arrest brown for touching her. and brown chased teshambe so he shot him in self-defense. now late in the day the defense called a club promote motier who said he waited weeks to tell police he witnessed the incident. that witness says brown lunged at the police officer and said that the police officer never identified himself. the baltimore fire department is not giving up

hope to finding goggins. his car was found abandoned two days later. goggins family will hold a candlelight vigil for him in 26 hours after the city college football field. in baltimore county, police are looking for a man accused of kidnapping two people. marlow mcclain was argued with the victims over money. mcclain is accused of assaulting them inside a trailer. anyone with information on mcclain's where abouts is asked to call county police. what started with a dog fight between pit bulls ended up with a man shooting and killing his neighbor's dog. anne arundel county police are trying to determine if that man did anything wrong. wjz is live, derek valcourt has the latest on this investigation, good evening derek. >> two dogs, two sets of dog owners and two entirely different stories of what happened that day.

>> reporter: 18-year-old bianca more says she was walking her family's pit bull cain in her neighborhood. when a neighbor's son was walking his dog, lost control of the dog and he came to attack her dog. >> this is the third situation we've had with this dog. >> reporter: noriega admits that when his children came in running to tell him about the dogs, he grabbed his gun. >> i came out and said, please grab your dog, grab your dog or i'm going to have to shoot him. she did nothing again. he then came at me. i had my kids blocked and they could not get away. at that time i decided i had to

shoot the dog. >> it's still under investigation. right now we're in the fact finding stages. detectives are still gathering information. >> i feel that i did the right thing. i feel the only option that was left for me to do. charges, everything is going to be in the air. >> i think it's bogus because my daughter is 18 years old. she has no reason to die. i'm going to push this to the fullest because i think what he has done is wrong. to have kids in the open where kids are playing, that's ridiculous. >> for now, noriega's dog is being held by animal control while authorities decide what if anything to do about this case. derek valcourt, wjz eyewitness news. all right, der can -- derek thank you. a big victory today for supporters of a law to provide instate tuition to some illegal immigrants here in maryland. the u.s. supreme court refused to hear a challenge similar in

california which gave high school students discounted tuition at state schools. maryland is among 12 states granting similar benefits to illegal immigrants immigrants. but the issue could be headed to a state wide revenue board. the casino at ocean downs in the eastern shore made more than any other month this year. over all the facile cities brought in more than $13 million last month. a piece of history makes its way through maryland today and many drivers got a chance to see the plane involved in the miracle on the hudson. vick is in the newsroom for us. >> reporter: it was pretty cool to see that today. in 2009 a plane was hit by a flock of geese and was forced to land. on the way to an aviation museum in charlotte, north

the raging wildfire in arizona settled down a bit. sandra hughes reports for wjz many people in the area are forced to abandon their homes.

>> reporter: wind is the enemy in arizona's third biggest fire ever. >> this is exactly the kind of thing we hoped wouldn't happen. >> reporter: the so called wallow fire has been growing in eastern arizona for more than a week scorching more than 300,000 acres of forest. and forcing some 3,000 residents to evacuate. >> we packed up for everything that we could. >> memories. >> memories and clothes. >> reporter: it was standing room only, a community meeting where the fire team commander put 7,000 residents on notice. >> you have 24 to 48 hours, but the way this thing is working, you may not have that much time. >> reporter: so far firefighters have kept the flames from homing in these secluded resort times, but they say dry conditions, lightning and 35-mile-per-hour winds gusts. >> g u s t s -- wind gusts. >> i want to thank all the

first responders on the lines. >> reporter: the governor authorized the mobilization of the national guard. more than 2,500 men and women from as far away as new york are helping battle the blaze. haze has even covered downtown denver. they expect strong winds through thursday and more in the fire could burn for -- and warn the fire could burn for weeks. another wildfire is threatening two communities in south eastern arizona. firefighters are battling the horseshoe blaze. the delays they just continue to build out there. on the west side of the interloop that delay has stretched. at least 15 minutes on the

did get up to 90 this afternoon for a brief period. we dropped a little bit. take a look at temperatures right now around the region. believe me this is going to feel pretty good compared to tomorrow afternoon. i expect by this time tomorrow afternoon we'll probably be around 97 rather than 87. it's only 71 in oakland. they had rain earlier today and a lot of clouds in cumberland

only 79, ocean city 85. it really wasn't stifling hot today but tomorrow is going to be one of those really tough afternoons. tomorrow and thursday, particularly. those two days are going to really be close to or breaking records for those dates. 80 in annapolis, washington and kent as well. for tomorrow afternoon from noon until 8:00 p.m. until that sun goes down, we have a heat advisory for this entire region. also we had air quality alert because the air quality is going to be getting poor ranging the nest couple of days. to our northeast, philadelphia region they even have an excessive heat warning which means they expect the temperatures to be over 100- degree. the combination of heat and humidity even tougher up there than across baltimore. we have the southwest wind now continue to bring in warmer temperatures and eventually we will start to see the humidity increase. you can see where all this shower and thunderstorms activity across the canadian

border. up the michigan area. down into portions of, western newark area. this is where this huge area of high pressure is governing this region. you can see what's going on, all that storm activity. this batch of showers we call conductive complex. just an area of showers and storms is headed to head down to our regions, kind of dried out as it reached central pa and congealed into a blob of showers that's what's to our west now. we do have a will the of clouds. kind of kept temperatures down just a tad today. but tomorrow as high pressure builds, we expect the temperatures to be six to seven, 8 degrees higher than today. scattered showers and yes temperatures will begin to cool down some what. southwest winds in the bay at five to 10 knots. the temperatures now to the mid- 70s. clear and partly cloudy. 65, probably 70 in the city. so we start off warm and we get hot in the afternoon.

it is 5:30, 87 degrees and partly cloudy. good evening and thank you for staying with wjz's eyewitness news. here are some of the stories people are talking about tonight. right now howard county police are searching for a violent woman. she attacked another woman at a columbia restaurant then stole her purse. tonight adam may reports the crime and a lack of help were all caught on tape. >> reporter: disturbing surveillance video taken at 2:00 a.m. at the second chance saloon. you will see a woman smack another woman walking into the restaurant. she punches her in the face repeatedly before stealing her

purse. >> whave not had situations like these, robberies like this that have haened iide an establishment. >> reporter: police say they are still trying to track down the attacker attacker. >> reporter: we have talked to the victim and witnesses in there. appear the woman and victim knew each other. >> reporter: several people walked by the victim while she was in pain. but a few minutes later, some people did come to her aid. >> reporter: a man is seen in the surveillance video, the restaurant owner identified him as a security guard he hired. the victim in this case

suffered some minor injuries. scrapes and bruises to the face. she was treated at the scene. meanwhile police are offering a reward for information that leads to an arrest. adam may, wjz eyewitness news. >> the suspect is 5'5", 220 pounds with a pony tail. the car fire was reported around 5:00 in the morning and caused ramp 188 to be closed. there's no information concerning the victim or the cause of the blaze. rescue crews in montgomery county have identified the man who drowned in the triladephia

reservoir. trancy body was recovered and . earl bradley is accused of sexually abusing dozens of young patients some as young as 2 years old. he was arrested after a young girl told her mother about the abuse. a score of similar allegations then surfaced. the first witness was a state police detective. he told jurors about red flag raising concerns about bradley's conduct. they included taking patients to the basement of his office or to a private room for ice cream. reviews ordered after bradley's arrest revealed suspicions about bradley's behavior went unreported to the state's medical board for years. mary. >> all right, denise, thank you. bradley is charged with 24 counts of rape, sexual assault and sexual exploitation of a child. the defense in the murder

trial of casey anthony accuses a crime scene investigator from altering evidence. her lawyer claims the drying out of evidence from the car changes any conclusion that could be drawn from it. on long island in new york, investigators are looking for more information including a potential killer. today's serge was prompted by fbi aerial surveillance. police believe at least four of the victims are linked to one killer. libyan leader gadhafi proclaims he is not leaving his country despite nato's decision to increase air strikes. as danielle notingham reports, the libyan situation is at the

after opec announces a reduction in production. a local world war ii veteran has received one of the highest honors for bravery. harold shapiro was inducted into france's legion of honor yesterday. harold shapiro earned two bronze hearts and now the mount washington resident holds a new medal and a new honor. >> i get a kick out of that. >> reporter: a knight in france's legion of honor. >> this was an award that was started by napoleon. this is the highest honor they pass out. >> reporter: harold was just a teenager when he arrived on omaha beach. almost seven decades later he's honored for playing a key role

graduate from a new culinary program at the maryland food bank. andrea fujihi has the story. >> reporter: food has changed monique young's life. >> i didn't graduate from high school. i like food so this is the perfect opportunity to do this. >> reporter: it's a 12 week program that provides hands on culinary training preparing students for jobs in the food service. >> leaving here, they feel very comfortable walking into any kitchen setting and pretty much execute which is what we need. >> reporter: and experience that's allowed all 10 students to graduate in food related jobs. including troy stephanie who says his new career path will provide a stable income for his daughter. >> that's the best part about this program. you don't have to look for jobs, jobs are coming here looking for you. >> reporter: the program is a

showing there was some e.coli on spanish cucumbers. germany is at the center of the outbreak. here in britain some experts have warned grocers to take all german produce off the market because no one knows why people are getting sick. consumers throughout europe are afraid to buy salad vegetables even though they've been given the all clear. the world's health organization says if the source of the bacteria is not found in a week, the cause may never be known. rita nissan, wjz eyewitness news. >> russia has banned all produce imports from european countries. what happened to lawn spiro. that's the question these

people are trying to answer. the 20-year-old iou sophomore has been missing. an intense search has been going on since saturday to find her. >> they split us up into groups. >> reporter: about 100 people gathered outside the dorms on sunday to search. >> i just thought if i can help at all, i have time and you know, if anyone seems like the number of people is the important thing to cover all the little areas. >> reporter: bloomington police say after a night of partying, lauren left her friend's house near 11th and college and started walking back to her apartment. investigators say she never made it back there. police said she had no shoes and no cell phone. >> go up to 11. start right back there. >> reporter: this was just one of several groups that walked around bloomington looking for lauren. amy thompson was part of this

we'll send it back to you. >> i think he plays the vice president in that upcoming movie. the kids are burning calories and helping the environment at the same time in today's health watch. >> reporter: this is called a foot bus. instead of riding a school bus, these children are walking to classes. 600 elementary school kids trek along city streets on lake komo. volunteers pick up students on 23 routes. the program's founder says our foot buses cover the entire city. the foot buses have been running for eight year, officials say they are helping to fight the growing problem of child obesity and they are keeping the air safe. this school year alone, the school bus will have prevented

6.5-tons of greenhouse gases from being released into the air. and officials say the children now set an example for their parents. >> also, it can bring cultural change. because the children can ask the parents to leave the cars at home. >> reporter: the students like it and the volunteers see benefits too. our group has coffee together after dropping off the children says this volunteer grandfather. the kids run rain or shine some for more than a mile. the program has such success, near by towns are getting on board. >> teachers report that walking to school makes children for alert and ready to learn. recent study says there maybe a link between fitness and academic achievement in children. >> that sounds like good news.
