hello everyone i'm vic carter. >> and i'm denise koch. here is what people are talking about tonight. >> the heat returns. another round of record temperatures is expected. we just got off the phone with baltimore city schools and they're on a half day tomorrow. baltimore county schools will close two hours early.

the heat has already turned deadly, kelly mcpherson has the story. >> reporter: two people have died today because of the heat and extreme heat we've had in the last ten days. think back to a week ago when it was too hot schools closed early. a student and teacher had to be treated for heat elated injuries. it's happened again. a cecil county man and an anne arundel county woman both over 65. >> we see it often times when we get early in the season before people are used to the heat, we find people aren't really thinking about the fact they need to check in on their neighbors and the elderly to make sure they're okay. in 2009, six people died and last year 32. last week the heat knocked out power to thousands of bge customers and that's a concern for this week too. bge has prepared workers are on call. >> there can be issues with equipment because the equipment by nature is already hot. it heats up even more when it's

yard barking and growling. he admits using a gun to shoot him. detectives are still investigating. key testimony today in the murder trial of a baltimore city police officer accused of killing a marine outside a club. mike hellgren has the surprise witness the defense called to the stand. >> it was wrong. >> reporter: shante broke down in an emotional interview with wjz the day after city police officer tshambe gunned down her brother. one year later she was calm in court as she recounted her brother's last moments alive. the defense called kangley hoping they believed were inconsistencies in her statement would boast their claim that this was self- defense. >> i was surprised the defense put her on. i think she was consistent with the prosecution. i think she reenforces all of the elements that are being proven here by the prosecution. that tshambe was aggressive.

>> reporter: she says that tshambe confronted brown saying, now, what? do it again. get your -- expletive on the ground. he shot him and walked away as if nothing has happened. others say brown chased tshambe. a club promoters also claimed he witnessed the incident. he said brown lunged at officer tshambe. mike hellgren, wjz eyewitness news. now the defense would not say whether tshambe will testify tomorrow.

tonight republicans and democrats are calling for anthony weiner to resign. weiner admitted he sent lewd pictures to a woman on twitter. he also has exchanged explicit messages with women during his 11 month marriage. weiner has vowed not to resign his seat on capitol hill. president obama says he's not worried about a double dip rescission. he is although worried about the unemployment rate moving back up with nearly $14 million looking for work. millions of the americans are also facing foreclosure. chairman ben bernanke sited the most severe housing bust since the great depression as part of the slow down of the u.s.

economy. he also blames japan's disaster and high gas prices but he believes those factors will ease in the next couple of months. several mayor construction projects are happening all at the same time. kai jackson explains if you don't plan ahead of time you can get stuck in traffic. i'm a witness to that, kai. >> reporter: you do have to plan ahead. the changes have already started taking place. drivers around town will start experiencing delays and headaches, but that will be offset by a combination of improved safety and better travel. from the national pike, to the baltimore region, construction is going to begin.

>> you're going to have construction some where along your travels. >> reporter: the overpass is being replaced, a $25 million project. tuesday night the state highway administration installed concrete barriers to direct the flow of traffic. >> as you look down there toward the 695 over pass at liberty road what does it look like? >> it's confusion right now. but, they're working on it. >> reporter: on interstate 83 or the jfx they've been doing work road repaving or resurfacing. funneling three lanes of traffic down to one. that creates quite a bottleneck creating frustration for driving. this project is scheduled to be completed by summer of next year. some big headaches now, but leaders say it'll be a big pay off down the road. >> how do you navigate these kinds of situations? >> very slowly and cautiously because a lot of cars don't know where they're going. everybody is weaving in and out of lanes and the traffic is

pretty bad usually in those areas. >> reporter: the liberty road overpass is also scheduled to be completed in summer 2012. both overpasses at national baltimore pass are scheduled for complete in summer -- completion in summer of 2013. back to you. a developing story out of baltimore city tonight where police say a woman was raped in her apartment. it happened in the 900 block of st. paul street this afternoon. police say the attacker pushed the woman inside, sexually assaulted her and then ran off. right now a person of interest is in custody but police are not releasing any other details. family, friends and baltimore city firefighters gather tonight to pray for a young fire recruit. missing for almost a week now. there's still no sign of rodney goggins though his car was found near the reservoir. tonight in baltimore city college people gather to pray for his safe return.

it is 76 degrees and partly cloudy in central maryland right now. the complete weather is coming up. a developing fire is growing. at least one firefighter is reported injured and police have evacuated homes near by as a precaution. 2,000 people have been ordered to evacuate as a mammoth wildfires in eastern arizona continue to grow. the week long fire has already consumed 486 square miles. that's about six times the size of baltimore. so far no serious injuries have been reported but the fire is rapidly approaching the small town of eager. two other near by communities are also preparing to evacuate. smoke from the wildfires has been reported as far east as iowa. high winds are predicted for the rest of the week which will make battling the case even more difficult. police have confirmed how a

12-year-old girl was murdered inside her home last week. they say that jessica nguyen was stabbed to death. police would not say what type of weapon was used or released the date of death. they are not sure if the sixth grader knew her attacker or if he was a stranger. and a car goes plunging into lake montebello with a 14- year-old at the wheel. none of the women were hurt, the aunt faces numerous citations and fines. well it started as a fight between two pit bulls in anne arundel county and ended with one of the neighbors shooting and killing a neighbor's dog. police are trying to determine if the man did anything wrong. >> i really miss my dog. >> reporter: sunday morning,

boye was walking her pit bug dog named cain when a neighbor's pit bull came running and started fighting her dog. scared, she dropped the leash. >> they didn't say anything to me. as i was bending down to get my dog's leash, he shot my dog. >> this is the third situation that we've had with this dog. >> reporter: tony noriega admits that when his kids came in the house running to tell him about the dog, he grabbed his gun. >> i said please grab your dog, grab your dog or i'm going to have to shoot him. she didn't do anything again. she again backed me up to where a wall was. i had my kids blocked, my kids could not run any where. at that time i decided i could do anything but shoot the dog. >> reporter: so who's telling the truth? police are trying to sort things out but at this point they have not taking sides. >> we're still working closely with the state's attorney's

southwest winds at five. barometer holding steady and the dewpoints come up to 64 degrees by the way. right now we're looking at a high this afternoon got up to 90. our normal high is 81. low so far today, last night 60. the record is 96 today and 47. the record tomorrow is 97. we're predicting 98 so we'll probably break that record. right now 73 in easton. rather cool and pleasant. 66degrees out there, you might want to open the windows tonight but tomorrow close them up quickly in the morning because it's going to get really hot in the afternoon. winds to the south-southwest. minneapolis still 93 degrees. they were 103 this afternoon. it was pretty dry heat. but still 103, look at that only 56. 85 now in chicago, detroit.

some temperatures out here today were close to 95 to 100. that's moving in our direction. that's why we have the heat warnings tomorrow. i had some showers this afternoon, this morning across western sections of our region. there's another batch up here along lake huron that might make it down to pennsylvania. might bring us a few clouds. if it brings us a few clouds in the morning it might keep temperatures down one or two degrees. maybe, hopefully. hot, humid that's what we have in store until probably friday afternoon when this front gets pretty close. there might be a thundershower on thursday night. hopefully a better chance on friday. and then we'll start cooling down for the weekend. we'll have showers as well. five to 10 knots, tonight partly cloudy sky, 65 to that 75 in the city. tonight, hot, humid 98-degree. that will break the record. 97 on thursday. maybe a shower thursday night. in the mid-80s with a chance of
