criminal impersonation, unexpecting homeowners are tied up by people pretending to be cops. tonight what police say happened to him and why police are very concerned. hello everyone i'm mary bubala. here is what's going on tonight. two home invasions in just a week. both times the men pretended to be police. weijia jiang spoke with one of the victims, weijia. >> reporter: that man tells wjz he never saw it coming.

likely because police say what's most alarming is the lie the attackers told their victims. in the heart of baltimore's federal hill, we spoke to the victim. police say two men broke into a home on elkins lane. they fold the victims they were policemen. >> that scares the pants off of me. >> reporter: we spoke to the victim who says he's way too shaken up to share his story on camera. but he tells us he's still in shock what happened and also relieved that he listened to his attackers. but he can't stop thinking about what could have happened. >> i've lived here all my life and it seems to be getting worse, it's sad. >> reporter: three men who were also impersonating police officers barged into a house, tied up a man and his wife. then shot the man. >> it's a tremendous violation of the public's trust.

right. when a police officer knocks on your door, immediately your initial reaction is to comply and that's what scares us the most. >> it's going to be hard for the real police now. >> reporter: the suspect only ended uptaking a cell phone. residents say they were also robbed of peace of mind. >> i thought federal hill it would be a safe place. it's not. you're not safe any where. >> reporter: and with nobody in custody, police warn this may happen again and if it does they say the last thing victims should do is engage their attackers. we're live at police headquarters, weijia jiang, wjz news. >> the victims were not seriously injured. city firefighters pull a body out of the patapsco river. traffic on the hanover street bridge was stopped for a short time during the investigation. police are trying to figure out

how this person died and exactly who it is. police make an arrest in the murder of a delivery driver. william karr shot and killed sean yim tuesday. yim was making a delivery around 3:00 in the afternoon when he was shot in the chest. karr just got out of prison last year after serving a five year sentence for robbery. dominique kahn is free tonight. pinkston reports for wjz. there's now questions regarding the accuser. >> reporter: a brief 10 minutes in court, and kahn walked out an almost free man. >> the defendant will be released on his own recognizant. the only restriction is that the people will continue to hold his passport.

>> reporter: the hotel maid that accused kahn lied about her whereabouts following the attack. >> that investigation raised concerns about the complaining witnesses creditability. >> reporter: prosecutors spelled out other inconsistencies. they include lying to get into the u.s. from her native country. some of the admissions were provided by the woman's own attorney who insists the facts of the case are unchanged. >> the victim here made some mistakes. but that doesn't mean she's not a rape victim. >> reporter: kahn's attorney have always insisted that what happened in the hotel room was not a crime. his lawyers hope those charges will be dropped. >> it's so important in this country that people, especially the media reserve their judgment on the facts of the case until they are all in. >> reporter: kahn's arrest

resulted in his losing his job as head of the monetary fund. but there may be time for him to enter the race of president of france if he is cleared of all charges here. soon after he returned to the townhouse where he's been staying, kahn received an arrangement of red white and blue balloons and another one shaped like the statute of liberty. a woman and her young daughter are murdered in washington county. today neighbors gathered to pray for the victim and her family. alicia abrey and her 4-year-old daughter were shot to death, avery was also pregnant with twins. today her family talked about her loss. >> it's really hard because i'm never going to have a chance to

talk to my daughter. all i have to look at is pictures. and i'm not getting through this right now, but i'm holding on though. i have a lot of lot, a lot of love. >> reporter: even in this tough time, avery's mom says she's still talking about the suspect. avery was in witness protection during the incident but police say that was not a factor in her death. an emotional farewell for a 15-year-old boy who was shot and killed at a slumber party. pallbearers wore jerseys. no charges have been filed. the man behind the iconic maryland business has died. price phillips senior passed away today. phillips is the founder of

phillips seafood. she and his wife opened the crab house back in 1986. they opened their baltimore location in 1980s. he was 90 years old. more than $1 billion, that's what a jury ordered exxon to pay familys in a community. tonight mike schuh talks to some people about the huge award. >> reporter: with the gas still under jacksonville no one in a two mile radius trusts what comes out of here. >> it's not safe enough for me to drink it or to cook with it. >> reporter: now they have a triple filter system but no one can guarantee it really works. >> even with this system you don't have total confidence? >> no at any time it could be a breakthrough.

there's no guarantees. >> reporter: the jury awarded them $24 million. >> if you were given that offer somehow, what would you trade that money for? >> assurance that my children weren't going to get sick. >> reporter: reservers say the most emotion testimony in the entire case came from a woman who is just steps from that station. this is vicki ho's nail salon. vicki ho came to this country with $200 in her pocket. she built a strong business then came the leak. half of her customers left. her mini van needs repairs and today she missed the call from her lawyer. she's stunned when i tell her the jury awarded her $15 million of exxon's money. >> oh my god. i don't know. wow. >> nothing though she says compensates her for her years of fear. >> i'm just worried because in the future, all that money, but

you always worry about another 20 year, 30 years what happens to you. >> reporter: the families have all been prepared by their lawyers that this is just the first step. it could be years before anybody sees any money out of this case. in jacksonville, mike schuh, back to you on tv hill. and exxon does plan to appeal the jury's decision. people in california can now enjoy maryland wine without even having to pay us a visit. a new law is now in effect allowing state wineries to ship their wine out of state and maryland residents can ship it to their homes. state controller peter francho placed the first order today. well a very busy day on area highways as folks headed out for the 4th of july holiday. here's a live look posted at the bay bridge toll. it's pretty clear right now, but this afternoon there was a pretty good back up.

it is 69 degrees and clear in central maryland right now. the complete first warning weather forecast is coming up. cloudy water helped conceal a woman's body for two days in a massachusetts public swimming pool. that's the conclusion of a preliminary investigation. it found that marie joseph died from an accidental drowning in the deep end of that pool. two inspectors who did not notice the body have been suspended. the state says there was no health risk to anybody who swam in the pool. police in georgia say they are pretty sure a dismembered body is that of a missing maryland woman. 27-year-old lauren giddings

went missing last saturday. a neighbor accompanied police into giddings apartment and spoke to reporters about what he saw. >> no sign that anybody had broken in. just nothing, just she was gone. all of her stuff was there, her id was there, her wallet was there. but she was just gone. >> reporter: mcdaniel was later arrested on a year old burglary charge. he's also listed by police as a person of interest in lauren's disappearance. nfl star michael vick is back at a spokesperson for nike. the terms of the new endorsement deal have not been released. nike dropped vick back in 2006 after he admitted to financing a dog fighting ring. he was named the nfl's come back player of the year last season. a strange sight today in the skies over baltimore. a low flying plane cruises up

and down the i95 corridor. the test flight is a first of its kind flying laboratory. >> reporter: nasa also uses satellite to track pollution. they're really good to see what's happening really way up. but-- >> those satellites are not good enough to diagnose what's at surface levels. >> reporter: to people the action is closer to the ground. pollution produced by cars and -- nasa is looking for samples between street level and space. >> we'll spiral up to try to get a complete spiral of the atmosphere up to 10,000 feet. >> reporter: day long flights, corkscrew up and down over the

the july. maria shriver filed for divorce. the divorce papers did not indicate a prenup agreement. they are canada's most popular visitors. large crowds are following every move by prince william and his new wife katherine. in ottawa they arrived by horse drawn carriage, the couple helped celebrate's canada's birthday by participating in a number of events. they were also treated by an incredible fly over by the canadian air force. the couple's eight day tour will conclude with a stop in california. i think they get there a week from today. >> all right. >> into california, so and only spending three days. that's it but it's nice for them to come over. >> fun to travel. >> it's fun to travel. if that's how everybody takes care of you. >> we do not get that treatment do we, bern. >> no, no, no.

weather wise it's the holiday weekend. >> yes. >> finally the holiday weekend if you've been preparing for this. it's been beautiful heading into this. waáer we're going to take you through what we will be looking at. the humidity has been extremely low. they've been creeping down. that's an indication of very low humidity. it is 69 degrees right now, baltimore. we still have a few 70s out there. we have 70s across the northern tier and closer to the water. 69 in columbia and 69 in dc. the wind, right out there tonight, but tomorrow they're in the process of turning around to the south and that is going to bring us some warmer air and more muggy air. now tomorrow, air quality alerts go into effect for all of these shaded counties during the prime time hours of the day. it's a code orange alert.

the humidity will start to build, but it is more so the next few days that we're going to start to feel it the next few days. and it's because of what you see down here to the southwest. got into the 90s in minneapolis today. now down to 72 degrees, but still 80 in chicago, 84 in kansas city. and this is the air moving in our direction. and it's coming because of this front right in here. not a whole lot to it right now. but it will be moving in our direction over the next few days. and start interfering with our gorgeous weather that we've had lately. tomorrow, it gets a little bit closer. maybe a pop up shower or thunderstorms. mainly farther west during the afternoon hours. but it's not a huge chance. then as we head into sundays and monday, better chances because here's the cold front part of this storm. scattered showers and thunderstorms are possible with that. that will continue into monday. but just scattered showers and thunderstorms. bay temps 75 degrees, a beautiful day in the waters
