hello again. i'm don scott. >> we have the latest on a water rescue from sandy point state park. divers are back in a pennsylvania lake this noon searching for the allegany county man who went missing in a boat accident over the weekend. witnesses say the boat may have been going 80 miles an hour before it flipped over. rescue teams are searching the lake for the missing 50-year- old man from cumberland. three other people were on board that boat. they were rescued. there weekend brought violent storms to our area. the weather turned deadly. >> a lightning strike killed a cyclist last night on the c and
12:02 pm
o tow path near washington. the lightning hit a tree which fell on the man. the storm injured several civil war re-enactors during a demonstration in gettysburg. they are hospitalized today after lightning struck them. five people were injured, all should survive. on the grounds of the u.s. capitol park police evacuated the area as torrential rain, powerful winds and lightning rolled in. hundreds of people were there for a rehearsal for tonight's holiday concert. at the height of the storm more than 15,000 bge customers were without power. that number is can down to less than 700. back to you. bge says most of those outages are in anne arundel county. at this point everybody wants to know if the weather will hold for today. we have clouds but also a good summertime dose of heat and humidity.
12:03 pm
we have marty bass pretty busy. >> thank you very much. good afternoon. suttled change in the forecast over the past hour. it's warm out there right now. 84 degrees and that's about three degrees warmer than it was at this time yesterday. heat index of 86. the jet stream is right on top of us. we're still looking at a slightly less stuffy flow out of northwest. having said that, you see at that stationary front, pretty much the proximity of the jet stream. we've had a wave form over southern ohio. now the general thinking is, i'll zoom in on this, that this wave is going to make itself -- make it over the mountains and make itself known in the mid- atlantic. the general track is going to
12:04 pm
be south but not exclusively south of the area. that's why we have our clouds in the region right now. we'll put a 50% chance of an afternoon or very early evening shower or thundershower in the forecast. i think this has cleared out by the time we start doing fireworks. 50% chance now, we may be seeing a little moisture. we'll take another look at this coming up. back to you. heat and humidity are not keeping crowds from celebrating the holiday. thousands are joining in with big parades around the area. we're live in towson. >> reporter: a lot of people out here having a good time listening to the bands. it's quiet right now. bands have been coming through getting the crowd going with the patriotic music. a lot people started like up early this morning to get good
12:05 pm
seats. parades are happening in towns and cities across maryland today. for kids on the fourth of july, a parade ranks right up there with the fireworks. >> it means a lot to us. i'm in the air force, so it means quite bait to us to get to celebrate and spend time as a family. >> for adult, a day to celebrate the red, white and blue is more than just about counting their blessings. >> this is a day to appreciate what a tremendous blessing we have in this great country of ours and to appreciate the men and women who put on our uniform to defend our freedoms. >> it's a great day to be an american. >> a parade like this is not cheap to put on. this in towson costs in the range of $30,000. the good news is all of that paid for through generous donations and through the generous sponsors who all have floats in the parade. a lot of people are enjoying
12:06 pm
this having a good time. back to you. >> thank you. after all of today's other events comes the real star of the fourth of july holiday, the fireworks. all appears ready in the inner harbor for the fourth of july celebration with its thousands of fireworks to light up the night sky. the show will last about 20 minutes this evening. we're proud to be a sponsor of the fourth of july fireworks show which will begin tonight right after 9:30. still ahead, a visit to the truth troops, lawmakers visit afghanistan. a royal welcome, crowds greet will and kate as they visit prince edward island. >> will there be some weather worries on our holiday? marty has the answer next. ,,,,,

it's deliberation day for the jury charged with deciding if casey anthony committed murder. they've been sequestered for six weeks and are hearing final arguments from the prosecution
12:10 pm
before meeting to figure out their verdict. karen brown reports for wjz now from orlando. >> casey anthony's fate will soon be in the hands of the jury. jurors must discoid if the 25- year-old murdered her 2-year- old daughter caylee. this morning they heard prosecutors present their rebuttal to the defense's closing arguments. >> our position is that the facts in this case show beyond a reasonable doubt that this was a premeditated murder of a young child. >> prosecutor jeff ashton first focused on the case's forensic evidence trying to convince jurors that casey anthony killed her daughter more than three years ago by covering her face with duct tape. >> that tape had to have been on that skull before she decomposed. >> defense has tried to inject doubt into the case by saying caylee accidentally drowned in the family's pool and that casey anthony's father covered it up and they say the
12:11 pm
prosecution is smearing her character by claiming she killed her daughter because she got in the way of her hard partying lifestyle. >> the reason you don't have that evidence that they're desperately trying to find is because it's an unprovable case. >> people don't make accidents look like murder. that's absurd. and nothing has been presented to you to make that any less absurd. >> the jury must consider seven charges including first degree murder, which carries a possible death sentence. >> casey anthony is also charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, aggravated child abuse and four counts of providing false information to law enforcement. back here we're just few hours into the holiday. already there is bad news on the water with two separate rescues. we're live at sandy point state park. >> reporter: good afternoon. what happened here involves a
12:12 pm
five or six-year-old boy who was pulled from the south beach swimming area here at sandy point state park rescued by a park employee who performed cpr and called 9-1-1. it happened in about four feet of water. we're told that the family was nearby. we don't have details about how the boy got into the water. he is now at the hospital with serious and life threatening injuries. sandy point state park is closed to visitors at this hour. new visitors that is. not because of this incident, because the park is at capacity. we're told there have been 13 drownings so far this year in anne arundel county. this boy did survive. he has serious life threatening injuries. back to you. >> thank you. an unexpected storm capsizes a fishing boat in mexico leaving one u.s. tourist
12:13 pm
dead, seven missing. the boat was about 60 miles south of the baja california in the sea of cortez on a fishing trip. there were 44 people on board when two giant waves hit it and flipped the boat over. the search continues for the missing. three united states senators are in afghanistan this fourth of july. there they have a lot to say about the president's plans in that country. in kabul, republican senators john mccain and lindsay graham call the string too risky. they say it could put american troops and their mission in jeopardy. the white house is standing by its plans saying successes on the ground especially the kills of osama bin laden have made it a viable one. the duke and duchess of cambridge, william and kate, resume their tour of canada today with an official welcome to prince edward island. they arrived yesterday after leaving quebec city where they encountered some anti-

monarchist protesters. they leave canada for a trip to california this friday. still ahead, will mother nature allow your holiday picnic to go on? marty has the answer. the stock market is closed for the fourth of july holiday. copd makes it hard to breathe,, so i wasn't playing much of a role in my own life, but with advair, i'm breathing better so now i can take the lead on a science adventure. advair is clinically proven

all right. beautiful down at the inner harbor right now. i'm saying beautiful because we have relatively cloudy skies, a few peeks of sun. it's very comfortable. temperatures are going to go a degree or so higher than we thought this morning. the high should be 91 degrees even with clouds. it will be warm and humid. look at radar. we're a bit concerned. there is a wave, an upper air feature, if you will. it will come chugging through the ohio valley. i've drawn, if you will, loosely speaking, a track for you. primarily this will stay south of the area, but not exclusively. i'm talking about you folks up in the northern tier counties and southern pennsylvania.
12:18 pm
it's not impossible as this wave follows a stationary front that we could see maybe from 4:00 to 7:30 or cork maybe a passing shower or thundershower. we have a 50% chance. we have this nice flow coming around an area of low pressure. it's making a warm day feel more comfortable than yesterday's warm day. having said that, we got two different things going on here. 84 now with 52% humidity, winds calm. low to mid-70s western maryland, 82 hagerstown. mid-80s washington, d.c., pax river, ocean city. 81 westminster. low 80s rock hall, kent island and annapolis. it's loosely organized, upper air feature. it's just meandering along. the mountains will take some of the power out of this thing.
12:19 pm
i don't think we have a washout this evening at all. with any luck at all, this is over, said and done with by fireworks time. believe it or not, one this me anders south of the arks skies will clear out to a rather partly cloudy condition. this high pressure will run our weather through the week. this is one of the biggest vacation weeks of the year. weather is going to cooperate. i can control these sky backgrounds. i've made it mostly cloudy because that's the forecast. do understand wave 50% chance of maybe a passing shower or thundershower before we go partly cloudy and fall to the mid-60s tonight. we have a good shot at 91 degrees tomorrow, hot with sunshine, some passing fair weather clouds.
12:20 pm
