casey anthony's fate, it's now in the hands of a florida jury. the final arguments made by the prosecutors. good afternoon -- i'm adam may. it's deliberation dade. after six weeks of testimony, the jury has the casey anthony murder case. karen brown has more with a wrap up of the clouding argue -- closing arguments. >> reporter: jurors are now deciding on the casey anthony case. prosecutors got the last word. >> his life was better without caylee. >> reporter: her hard partying is evident that she didn't want to be a mom. they tried to prove she suffocated her daughter.

>> duct tape was on the skull before she decomposed. >> reporter: to get a guilty verdict, the prosecutors must convince the jurors beyond a reasonable doubt. the defense claims that caylee accidently drowned in her grandparent's pool. >> there's the proof she could easily get outside. >> reporter: and that her grandfather tried to cover it up. >> these photographs tell the truth. >> reporter: in their final rebuttal, the prosecutors pounced. >> people don't make accidents look like murder. that's absurd! >> reporter: if convicted, she could face the death penalty. as you see, she sat stone faced during much of the closing arguments. occasionally, she shook her head. it's been a dangerous day

on maryland waters. a young boy drowns at sandy state park. mike hellgren has more on the efforts to save the child's life. a little boy has died. he went missing in four feet of water in south beach's area. people formed a human chain. >> he was on the leg. his arm touched his leg and he picked him up. >> reporter: a park employee did cpr on the 6-year-old victim. >> they're well trained to mitigate emergency. >> the park was crowded with more than 1000 people. the 4th of july holiday was one of the busiest here. it was scary. everyone was like, where he at? >> they should have their vests on and stay with their kids at

all the time. >> reporter: the fire department couldn't say how the boy went missing and offered this warning. >> if there's silence, there's a problem. someone should maintain a watch. if you can't swim, please wear a personal flotation device. >> reporter: this is the second tragedy over the holiday. a little boy flipped on an inner tube. 13 people have drowned in anne arundel county so far this year. i'm mike hellgren, wjz, eyewitness news. mike, thank you. divers are back at a pennsylvania lake searching for a missing western maryland man. a 50-year-old went missing over the weekend. a boat he was in capsized. three others were also on board the boat and they were all rescued. i stayed out with the boat sinking and looking for the diver, two, three minutes at a time looking for the diver. i was trying to find the guy.

if he's guilty. a shooting in memphis leaves a police officer dead. it happened in a busy district. the police man was shot. he was responding with several other officers to a domestic call at a hotel. an unidentified person was also shot and killed. a new twist in the case against a former police officer in seattle who's now accused in a 1957 murder. here's the story. >> reporter: jack mcculla's stepdaughter and nieces left the courthouse. they've been expecting him in course. instead, they heard the announcement that he's in the hospital. >> he's in harbor view and he can't be brought over. >> reporter: a bail hering was for monday, it was a shock to his niece. >> this is my uncle, he's a

wonderful, kind, loving person. a little girl lost her life years ago, this is awful. >> reporter: he was arrested wednesday as the suspect in a 1957 murder. he was then known as john, he lived near this 7-year-old, who was abducted from her neighborhood in 1957. it was a huge, national news story. president eisenhower asked for daily updates. her remains were found five months later. people at the retirement home where he lived with his wife were stunned. >> i was shell shocked. >> he was not the person who would do that. >> he was taken off of the force in the 80s after convicted of having sex with a 13-year-old girl. well, the stocks are closed

today, but there's still business news. >> reporter: we'll see if the investors remain in a buying mood tomorrow. on friday, the dow closed highier. the nasdaq gained 42 points. fireworks will light up the skies and bring in big bucks. taxes on the sale of fireworks generate $1 billion nationwide. some states that ban the sales are reconsidering. massachusetts and maine are looking into legalizing the sale. it's been two years since the great recession ended. the recovery is split between wall street and main street. average americans are dealing with job insecurity and gas prices continue to increase. the corporate america is doing well. profits are up 50%.

this is the air national guard band. it's part of the celebration ending with fireworks at 9:00. are the fireworks going go off without a hitch? will we have a problem. there are storms out there now. there's a little bit of concern. we have a lot of fireworks being canceled. this is what we're dealing with now. it looks worse than what it is. we'll have it opened up on the national composite. we're concerned with everything happening here. most of this is heading to the south east. if you're in the south, this is more of your concern. it's mainly this area here. we'll switch it back over to the local radar.

we'll show you, these storms are pulsating to the east. they're moving slowly. it will take seven hours to move eastward. they'll fluctuate in intensity and when the sunsets, they'll lose strength. we'll have to monitor this for the next few hours. we'll show you from earlier today, most of the day has been dry. we've had the clouds coming in out to the west. here's how it looks to the south. that's the biggest concern for severe weather. severe thunderstorm watch in effect until 10:00 tonight. the reason you see the other counties is because of the code orange air quality because of the high humidity levels. 88 degrees in baltimore and the warmest all day long. nothing that extreme. above average as we have been. we'll be like that for the rest

of the forecast here. the average is still 86 degrees. here's the storm that's bothering us. it was a cold front yesterday, now, it's in the process of stalling out to the south. it will stick around and we'll see rounds of scattered showers and thunderstorms firing along the front. when we put that together, you can see, here's the front, it stalls out and doesn't move much the next few days. it's scattered about. by wednesday, another front is coming from the northwest. this eventually will get the pattern moving again and it will bring a renewed chance for thunderstorms on thursday and friday. each and every day, we have a chance of a thunderstorm out there. as far as temperatures go, it's warm. all throughout the country, it's warm. behind the front, we don't have much cold air to come our way. out on the waters, light wind, east winds at 5 knots during the day.

protect what hasn't already burned. the fire scoured the reservation's watershed and cultural sites. thank you, the governor is asking people to avoid using fireworks because of the dry conditions. the sexual assault case against dominique strauss-kahn has taken a twist. a young french writer said that he tried to rape her in 2002. an investigation is underway into that claim. he's accused of attacking a maid at a hotel in new york. he's now out of jail after the prosecutors raised questions about the attacker's story. afghan police released a person from the attack last week. 20 were killed. all were suicide bombers. this is the full extent to the inside of the hotel. the afghan security forces are

news. now, pepco restored power to 15,000 customers. we could be in for some of the storms in our area. outside, it's hazy, hot and humid. there's a severe thunderstorm watch for southern maryland. we have weather, traffic together. we'll look at the radar. most of the action is to the west of us. it's moving eastward. this is mainly in the mountains. it's moving to the east. it's seeing a few thunderstorms popping up. the worse of this is heading down into southern maryland. we'll see this into 10:00 tonight. this is what we're concerned with for the fireworks. this rate is going to take five or six hours for us to see this. there are a few thunderstorms popping up in between the

a teen in texas is facing murder charges after she throws a pot of boiling water on her boyfriend. he was talking to another woman. he was rushed to a nearby hospital with 2nd degree burns. he later died. a biker dies. he lost control of his bike after an antihelmet rally. he hit his head on the ground. a helmet would have saved his life. investigators are trying to decide if they found the body of a missing university of indiana student. >> reporter: the police pulled the body from a creek this morning. their're trying to find out if

this was connected to the disappearance of lauren superior. the police have followed up on several clues. denise? an autopsy is scheduled tomorrow. some are on edge after their neighbor was mauled by a black bear in her yard. here's more on the brutal attack. the police tape surround the reserve, it's known as the mel mountain reserve. the predator attack team is on the hunt for a black bear. apparently, it attacked and killed a member of this close nit community. >> she was an elder in the community. she was really well looked up to. she had a real sense of dignity wherever she went.

it was a sad loss we're experiencing. >> reporter: the victim who lived on the reserve was missing for five days before her daughter contacted the tribal police. the remains were emaciated and the body was fed on by animals. >> reporter: the officers know that the victim was alive when she was attacked by the bear steps away from her house. the cause of death is still unknown. why the bear attacked her is still unknown. >> we set up the area to try and capture the animal. >> have you captured the animal? >> we won't be able to identify that accept through dna. we have a good idea as far as coloration and the testing will be done to confirm it. >> the family, well, we would really like to thank the people

well, we're a little bit hazy, this is the one night of the year, well, maybe there's two, new year's and 4th of july. we don't want clouds or rain. >> well, this is true. everyone wants to know, what's it going to be for the fireworks. there are so many fireworks going on around the region, we have to show you the first warning doppler weather radar. we have thunderstorms heading in the direction. we have a few hours and well, it's a sort of area of the thunderstorms that's going to change off to the east. they'll build up and die down. it's not just going to come in as is. this batch down here, this is heading for the southern parts of the state. take a look in western parts of maryland. this is heading towards the baltimore, metro area. you can see the thunderstorms north of us, they're moving to the east, south east. this is what we're watching
