not guilty verdicts. they were guilty verdicts on lying to police officers and declining to talk to the media about the decision. the prosecutors said that casey anthony suffocated her daughter because she didn't want to be a mom. >> she chose to sacrifice her child. >> reporter: but from day one, the defense attorneys claimed that caylee accidentally drowned and her father helped to cover it up. >> he said it was an accident that snowballed out of control. >> reporter: anthony's father was to blame, the defense attorney says. they claimed he sexually abused anthony. after the verdict, anthony's lawyer said he felt he helped save a life. >> i'm happy for casey. i'm happy for her and i want

two dozen people are sent to the hospital in florida after a tanker truck rear ended a county bus. two were put on back boards. the bus driver suffered a neck injury. raging flood waters ripped apart a bridge sending villager flying in china. rescue groups had to use ropes to pull two dozen to safety. more than 200 may be spanned -- stranded in nearby towns. investigators say that the suspect in a maryland professor's murder is taunting them. this man is a stock trader and yoga teacher. he had a relationship with a popular accounting professor at america university. he made investments with her

it looks like july. >> it was a gorgeous morning outside. we had the clouds coming in and some are giving way to thunderstorms. overall, not a bad day. here's how it looks on the radar. down at the beaches, we're seeing more in the way of thunderstorms. most of the state is not seeing much at all. here are the storms lining themselves along the beaches. they're drifting around. we shall're probably going to see one or two around ocean city. this one is making its way to the south. we'll switch it over and show you, we have showers around. those got out of here. this morning, they were beautiful. here's the next round with clouds building up. the reasons that the thunderstorms aren't moving up, there's not much wind out there. it's sort of out of the northwest. it's so light, if you pick up a thunderstorm, it goes in different directions. 92 degrees now in baltimore. 89 in d.c.. the dew point isn't all that

bad. it's in the 60s. it's humid, but it's not in the 70s. that's one good thing going on. also, it allows the temperatures to drop overnight. 69 last night and topping out at 92 degrees today. we'll continue the trend of warm weather and because of that, the air quality alert is extended for a lot of places. a you will of the counties -- all of the counties are code orange. we have a front in the area. that's giving rise to the showers and thunderstorms. it's in here. here's a new front moving in our direction. the way it plays together, as long as this front is around, this is going to be here. it's enough that we could see a few pop up. this front comes in and kicks off the stalled front and brings in another chance for scattered showers possibly lingering into saturday.

hello, i'm vic carter. here's what people are talk about. just a short time ago, casey anthony was cleared in the death of her daughter. mary has more. >> reporter: well, she was found not guilty of the murder charges against her and the manslaughter counts. she wept as the judge read the verdict. the jurors reached the verdict after 11 hours of deliberation. she was convicted of four counts of lying to investigators.

from him. the judge says he'll likely not allow that. it could influence the jury. he's the latest baseball player to face a jury. barry bonds likely avoided prison time when convicted on one count of obstruction. his trainer refused to testify, chooseing to go to jail instead. clemens case is stronger. he could spend years in prison if found guilty. the trial is expected to last up to six weeks. the fbi is involved into the investigation of a disappearance of a college student from howard county. jessica kartalija is in the news room with the latest on the investigation. >> reporter: the 27-year-old went missing in macon, georgia.

test results are pending on a body found near her apartment to determine if that's her. the state of the body made the identification difficult, they didn't elaborate. the fbi is expected to receive other evidence. thank you, jessica. since the remains aren't identified, the police said they're continuing to work around the clock, looking for her, hoping she may still be alive. search teams are looking for a missing allegany man. the man was on a boat in a lake near pittsburgh when it capsized. nasa's final shuttle mission is getting off on a bad foot. astronauts arrived, there's a 60% chance that the launch will have to be delayed because of rain. atlantis will make a final supply run to the international space station before the fleet is retired.

into a 13-year-old murdered girl's phone days after she vanished in 2002. the police say that the suspect gave them a false sense of hope she was still alive. the paper hasn't commented yet. they admitted to other high profile phone hacks. an escalator accident at a subway stop in china leaves one dead and dozens injured. the victims fell over after an escalator malfunctioned. investigators say that they're trying to find out what happened. we're learning more about a deadly police shooting in san francisco. as we report for wjz, one of the two officers involved had a taser and didn't use it. >> at first, i thought they were fireworks going on.

>> reporter: he heard four to five shots as the police officers confronted and shot to death a man in the civic center station. the chief said it began at 9:34 p.m. with the call of a while male. >> he was a white male in a tie died t-shirt. he walked around the platform with an open bottle of control. >> reporter: the two officers arrived at 9:45. within a minute, the unidentified suspect had been shot. >> the guy had a knife and the guy used a bottle as a weapon. one of the officers is injured. our officers used the force which they felt was necessary in the defense of their lives. >> reporter: the suspect was pronounced dead an hour later. both are on administrative leave.

they closed the station to corral the witnesses. they had about three or four officers at each exit and entrance. they were making sure no one left the station. >> reporter: one of the officers was armed with a taser. it's unclear why he didn't use it. he believes the officers acted propertily. they said there should have been another way. >> if the cops got a gun and he has a taser, also, the taser should stop the guy. >> the police department is the lead agency in the investigation. they're also conducting their own investigation into the shooting. six are recovering after an unruly rider prompts an accident in virginia. a man's hat flew off and got jammed in the wheel of one of the cars causing the collision. workers asked the man to remove the hat before the ride started.

27 americans capsized off of the coast of mexico. one died and seven others are still missing. >> reporter: a u.s. coast guard helicopter joined mexico's navy monday in the search for several missing. one american was killed when the fishing boat capsized sunday morning. >> they all had to take what they had. they had the life jackets on. they implicated they were in the water for 15 hours. >> reporter: some took this trip every year. jan's husband joined this year by chance. >> apparently, one couldn't go and rich was offered a trip for free. >> reporter: three were rescued by another boat. >> i feel lucky, i do.
