sophomore graduating with an "a." >> reporter: boosting the graduation rate was one of his top priorities but closed failing schools and added more schools that focused on career and technical classes. >> every once in a while you get something back that basically tells you, keep at it and keep going. >> and dr. alonzo says, that is exactly what he is going to do and another reason they are seeing a boost for graduation they have a campaign that allows teachers and students to go door to door asking students to come back to school. roughly a 6% increase from the year before. >> that is positive news for sure. we have some clouds beginning

in the newsroom to explain how a group of strangers saved his life. >> he became pinned underneath the vehicle. take a look, the child is trapped and with the help of several smart continues, they lifted the car off the ground and pulled the boy out. witnesses say the child was alert and stayed calm thanks to strangers who talked him through the whole thing. >> the incident happened after the child's grandfather dropped him off at elementary school. he spent six days trapped in a ravine. explaining, the man's determined children saved his life. >> reporter: he was trapped in a mountainous ravine after his car plunged off a road. he did what he could to survive
