an italian jail this time for good. an italian judge overturned her murder case. >> we're thankful that amanda's nightmare is over. we suffered for four years for a crime she did not commit. >> not only did she suffer. >> reporter: knox pleaded with the court. i did not kill. i did not rape, i did not steal. i was not there. >> she was extremely worried. all the last week has been extremely difficult for her. >> reporter: the american and her ex-boyfriend spent four years behind bars for stabbing kurcher. but independent experts testified that the dna test was unreliable. the kurcher family seemed stun when the verdict was read. they released a statement saying we still trust the italian justice system and hope

police car and spends two hours on the run. vincent avia somehow got out of his handcuffs and his jump suit before he jumped out of a police car. officers caught up with him on york road and he now faces additional charges. panellic panic at the social security sector. it forced the whole facility to shut down. mike hellgren has the story. >> reporter: the police response was large and fast. officers scoured the woods for clues after a social security administration employee was shot during a bold robbery while on his lunch break. it happened before noon and a short distance from social security administration headquarters where nearly 10,000 people worked. this mother who lives very close to the shooting scene and asked that we not show her face is scared for her safety. >> it's showing that people don't have a consciousness and

we're not safe no matter where we go whether it's the city or the county it doesn't matter now. >> reporter: the massive saa headquarters went on lock down as a precaution. police used dogs and collected bags of evidence. police say whoever did this took off down woodlawn driver. the victim that saa workers collapsed near the i70 overpass. many who worked for social security were surprised. >> even if it's down here it's any where that somebody just shoots somebody. that doesn't make any sense. >> reporter: the area is not immune to crime. an apartment owner was killed near by. >> it's happening all over in this city. it's happening all over. they got guns and they're just uncontrollable with them. >> reporter: now the search is on for the suspect as the victim recovers at the hospital. the saa's commissioner urged all employees to be cautious and said they are beefing up security in the parking lot

surrounding the campus. in woodlawn, mike hellgren. wjz eyewitness news. the victim is being treated at sinai hospital. a strange smell shut down the subway. firefighters did not find anything dangerous in the air. all of the subway stations are back open tonight. we have just learned what killed former raven orlando brown. the medical examiner tells our media partner the media sun that brown died from complications of diabetes. brown was found dead in his apartment last month. the former offensive lineman was only 40 years old. fears of food contamination after another death is blamed on listeria. now it's turning up in lettuce. megan mccorkel has the latest recall involving lettuce. >> reporter: the latest recall involves lettuce and it comes

on the heels of the biggest listeria outbreak in decades. a farm recalls 33,000 bags of lettuce after a bag tested positive for listeria. >> we're testing product. we're being audited all the time. we're testing it at our plant. >> reporter: the recalled lettuce is from true leaf barn. it's bagged lettuce with a use date of 10/31. lawrence kate nville died after eating cantaloupe. his family spoke out to wjz. >> in this country and today that shouldn't be part of it. people should be responsible for what they're doing. >> lesteria can be very deadly. that's why there's very little time or no time after eating the food. >> reporter: washing the food

a new campaign to win over supporters of same-sex marriage in maryland. a bill came very close to passing in session but this time it has the government's muscle behind it. adam may explains why this time it'll be different. >> reporter: governor o'malley was practically silent on this issue. now he's front and center and he has new stronger supporters. just months after the governor announced he will sponsor a same-sex marriage bill. >> i'm a maryland for marriage equality. >> reporter: she's starring in the first web campaign video released by a new coalition of supporters. >> i'm looking forward to see some people change their mind. >> reporter: this time the naacp is jumping in the battle a potential game changer already lobbying african american lawmakers who voted for the bill last session. >> we want everybody to have the right to have the way they want to live.

we have weather coming up. a chemical plant in dallas created a huge plume of smoke. the latest tests show there's no threat to the public. no one was injured and the cause still is under investigation. a 22-year-old student in maryland is being charged with a deadly car accident in vermont. segler left a house party with seven classmates. sebler drove his car off the road killing a 17-year-old. seber is expected to be released on bail to his parents. two people arrested after a bear attacks them inside their central pennsylvania home. the bear changed their dog into the house in the middle of night. one person suffered a back injury. another had a leg wound. wildlife experts think the bear was probably just protecting its cub. testimony from an emergency room doctor from the trial of michael jackson's personal physician. they asked dr. conrad murray what happened to jackson.

he responded the pop star was extremely dehydrated. murray is accused of giving jackson a lethal dose of the powerful anesthetic. the this is the second week of the manslaughter case against dr. murray. a tragic twist to have the awarding of the noble prize for medicine. ron stineman won the award today but the problem is he passed away three days ago. the award is normally only given to people who are living but the group agreed today to change the rules to give stineman the award. he used his research to treat himself during his fight against pancreatic cancer. the recent cold weather will have stink bugs heading inside your home to seek a warm spot for winter. sealing the cracks around doors, windows and vents will

coming in tomorrow. it'll be a pretty pleasant day. temperatures probably about 10 to 12 degrees warmer or more by tomorrow afternoon. now as that high pressure builds in it'll get a little warmer. a weak front in the north shouldn't do anything to us but it may drop temperatures north of us a couple of degrees. we expect temperatures most of the week to get at or above normal. so very fine weather finally headed our way. quickly to the tropics philippe not going to do any harm. back out to the west and back into the ocean. it may become a hurricane briefly before it dies out in the atlantic ocean. there may still be a little bit of passing shower or spotty drizzle in some parts. nice 67 tomorrow. compared to the low 50s today.

and coach harbaugh sent his players on a vacation. no work outs. the ravens reached their bye with a win. twice the ravens returned the fumbles for touchdowns. four turn overs totals. a decade ago the ravens did win a super bowl playing defense like this. they talked more about their effort today. >> i think all the guys out there that have been a part of the ravens defense can take pride in that performance last night and understand that's how the ravens defense. that's what they remember it as the best. >> i mean we've really just shown the potential we have. but you know it all matters on where we go from here. we've shown how dominant we can be and how versatile we can be.
