hello again. i'm don scott. >> jessica kartalija. >> it's breaking news, a day after a social security administration employee was shot outside his job in woodlawn police arrest the man who they say pulled the trigger. >> reporter: good afternoon. the suspect is now facing several charges including an attempted first-degree murder murder. gary stokes, jr. from gwynn oaks shot the man outside the social security administration headquarters. stokes was trying to rob the man. he is charged with first sexual assault robbery. >> the injuries are considered nonlife-threatening. today marks the end of a nightmare for american student

amanda knox. she's returning to the u.s. after spending four years in an italian jail cell. >> reporter: her face says it all. amanda knox is free. the 24-year-old smiled as she showed her boarding pass. knox's friend spock to amanda before she left. >> she said i'm not on my plane but i feel like i'm flying. >> reporter: knox wrote a letter saying those who wrote, those who defended me, i love you. amanda. knox look relieved. knox broke down as an italian appeals court delivered her fate. jurors accused her of murdering her british roommate. two hours later inmates cheered as she left perugia's prison.

the kercher family spoke with reporters here in perugia this morning and said they are shocked, upset and still without answers. >> someone who has done this. >> reporter: knox's supporters in seattle watched the verdict and can't wait to see her home. >> god speed and see you soon. >> reporter: knox said she wanted to return to her life, her future. reporting from italy. >> prosecutors say they will appeal but legal experts say the chances of the u.s. extraditing knox to italy for another trial are slim. a woman was sexually assaulted just off of campus. wjz is live at police

headquarters. derek valcourt just finished talking to police. >> reporter: police say the 20-year-old student was walking to her campus apartment when she was attacked by a man who told her he had a gun. this happened in the alley parking plot in the 3200 block of love grove street saturday morning. that's a popular area. police say the victim was sexually assaulted and the suspect tried to rape her. he ran away after the attack and the victim never did see a gun but the suspect told her he had one. the suspect was a black male between 6'1" and 6'2" and wearing a dark colored hoodie. the school has issued an alert but so far, no arrest has been made. >> thank you. we'll bring you the updates at 4, 5 and 6:00.

we now know more about the death of former raven orlando brown. he died from complications of diabetes. he was found dead in his south baltimore apartment two woox ago at the age -- weeks ago at the age of 40. a new gonzales research poll is giving us a look at the minds of voters. the economy and job remain the top concern and the president's approval rating has dropped 5%. a johns hopkins professor is all smiles today. dr. adam riess is among three people to receive the nobel prize for physics. the scientists had been stud dig the universe. he will share the $1 1/2 million award with his two corecipients.

we are having our first dry day in quite awhile. take a live look outside. you'll see evidence both in the sky and big white clouds and the temperatures are warming up but it's still on the cool side. today it is meteorologist tim williams in the weather center. >> it is a good afternoon, considering the dampness, cloud cover, day from day we've had. this is a really nice change. we're seeing more and more sunshine. temperatures are responding to the sun and the warm air' nice lie -- air very nicely. 63 at bwi marshall. 60 down on the shore. around the state we're watching the low prsh that was responsible for those scattered showers for the last few days moving out. drier warmer air is moving in along with high pressure. we'll see temperatures getting closer to our normal high of 71 degrees. the forecast you will probably like coming up in a few minutes.

the prosecutors in the manslaughter trial of michael jackson's record show that he was juggling too much the day he died. >> reporter: jurors could hear the voice of dr. conrad murray for the first time today. prosecutors may play an interview police interviewers conducted with michael jackson's personal physician two days after he died. he said he gave michael jackson propofol. two doctors at ucla medical center testified murray never

admitted administering propofol. >> he never mentioned propofol to you? >> reporter: absolutely no one doctor said jackson would have died even if she had known he was given propofol. >> there was no chance of treating mr. jackson successfully. >> from what i know now, no. >> reporter: the coroner said michael jackson died from pan overdose of propofol -- propofol. prosecutors are trying to establish that murray wasn't focused on his superstar patient. they claim the houston cardiologist used a pair of cell phones to talk to patients, his daughter and a love interest prior to michael jackson's death. dr. conrad murray is charged with involuntary manslaughter.

thinks the answer is a new government program. >> you have businesses who are excited about certainty relative to taxes, i think this country will take off. >> he is pushing congress to pass the entire jobs bill but republicans say they want to vote on just the proposals an which they agree. apple is going to unveil his new i-phone 5. believe this or not, it's been more than a year since the iphone 4 came out. it's rumored to be slimmer with a larger screen and it wouldn't be led by steve jobs. apple's new ceo, tim cook, is expected to take the lead today. in pennsylvania a bare took over a family's back deck. a bird feeder attracted the bear cub. he seemed to have fun.

more. the northerly component is keeping us cool. getting gusty, indicating that the brament is -- barometer is going up. 59 in elkton. 60 on the shore. everyone coming in between 59 as you see in west minister. 63 is the magic number over towards kent island, d.c. at 64. low pressure is moving out. high pressure is building. the pressure between the two is creating this wind, squeezing it together. we're getting these double digit readings. that low is what was responsible for giving us those showers over the last woke or so but the high is going to build in warmth. we'll see more blue sky and lot more, we'll see say more -- say more spring like temperatures. this is your forecast for the next foreseeable future with the clear conditions moving in. the clouds are breaking more.
