. this is wjztv, wjzhd and wjz.com baltimore. from the city to the counties to your neighborhood, now it's complete coverage, it's wjz, maryland's news station. hello, everybody, i'm denise koch. we begin with breaking news. an american visionary has died. steve jobs has just passed away at the age of 56. he is the man that brought us the mac, the i-pod, the i-pad. reports if wjz on his worldwide impact. >> it's incredible with its multitouch interface. >> steve jobs was the face of apple. a drop out, ecofounded apple.

he was just 21 years old. he revolutionized the pc with the macintosh. jobs was forced out of apple in the mid 1980s after a tiff with the board. but he was -- jobs transformed the music industry with the i- pod and made i tunes the largest music store. then started a tablet revolution with the i-pad. one of the richest people in the world. steve jobs made a black turtle neck and jeans his trademark. he beat pancreatic cancer in 2004 but his gaunt appearance 4 years later. >> jobs shot back with humor but jobs' health deteriorated and he had to undergo a

transplant. it was during a second leave of absence that jobs decided to step down from apple. apple has not released a specific cause for jobs death but his family said he died peacefully. a police pursuit, live at police barracks. explains why troopers were chasing that truck. >> investigators say the man was driving erratically. he had his hands on the wheel like this and was purposefully swerving across lanes of traffic. this blue pickup truck wrapped around the tree, the driver dead. say the man was going more than 20 miles over the speed limit and swerving all over the road. >> he actually moved into the

slow lane closer to the trooper and continued to rapidly move his wheel back and forth. >> the man lost control of his truck. when the trooper approached again he sped away going close to 100 miles per hour. >> vehicles were running off the road way. >> the truck eventually ran up an embankment. you can see the traffic nightmare. >> i sat in traffic for about an hour and a half. >> reporter: lanes closed for hours. drivers floored when they heard what happened something that's crazy. that's no respect for everybody. i'm surprised it didn't turn into a pile up. >> reporter: investigators say it's a miracle no one else was hurt. maryland state police have not yet identified the driver. we know he was not the owner of that pickup truck. it appears he borrowed the truck from a friend.

megan, thank you, detectives don't know why the driver fled from police. spilled coffee leads to a frightening. take a look at this car dangling over an embankment. she spilled coffee. when she reached over to clean it up she accidently hit the gas instead of the brake. she was not hurt. new audio recordings from a disoriented michael jackson. they come from the cell phone of dr. conrad murray. kenneth gibson has the latest on this case for wjz. >> the jury heard the michael jackson slurred voice in court >> prosecutors displayed a

schoolteacher. she was also a 60 year member of delta sigma thata sore orty. >> you know they were educators so they have affected the lives of many people and that's why you see such an outpouring of love here tonight. >> donald patterson was 78. he was the lifelong educator himself and became a soup superintendent of schools. >> he worked very hard with students in moving them ahead. and even after they retired they still worked with young people. >> after years of dedication to their careers, life brought the couple together. they met and married in 1987. those who knew them say they were dedicated to a life of service something and the students here can see what commitment to the community does. >> reporter: donald patterson is survived by a son who is now

an adult and several, 3 in fact grandsons. we should point out that burial services are scheduled for tomorrow. donald patterson would have turned 78 this saturday. condolences for the pattersons and their family have come from the mayor's office and even the white house. help is on the way for people devastated by flooding from tropical storm lee. just declared cecil and prince charles counties disaster areas. now people living in those counties are eligible for fema money to help in the clean up and repairs. the rest of the country is catching on to something we already know, the ravens are pretty popular. the 14th favorite team in the nfl. the same poll names the ravens as one of the favorites to win the super bowl this year. would hue. i hope that happens. it will be purple friday

a wind change. that will give us some cooler air on thursday. but by saturday the warm air starts coming right back into the region. quick look at the tropics, felipe, there it goes. it may become a hurricane late tonight briefly before it gets out to the north, northeast. it may actually bring rain to england, scott land and wales. but believe it or not ophelia brought a lot of rain just two days ago. that was way out here past newfoundland. so now has winds of 63 miles per hour. nothing to worry about because it's headed out to sea. bay temp around 66 degrees. could get down to 46 or so. with cool conditions tomorrow. sunshine all day along. a little bit cooler and then the next 5 days, a little warmer, 70 on friday. 76, look at this, saturday
