route 100. we're hearing eyewitness accounts of those frightening moments on the road. route 100 became a wild race course for one driver. police say before the man crashed, he was weaving through traffic violently rocking the steering wheel going more than 80 miles per hour. >> i didn't know if i was going to survive that or not. >> reporter: 23-year-old heather is pregnant. she said she was on her way home from a doctor's appointment when the driver's pickup truck almost slammed into the car she was riding in. >> i didn't know what was going to happen. >> reporter: state trooper tried to pull the driver over but police say that's when he became more erratic. >> at that point the truck accelerated to speeds between 90 and 100 miles per hour. he was passing vehicles on the left shoulder of the roadway.

>> police say some vehicles were very off the road to off the way. others were slamming on the brakes. with so much going on they're saying it's a wonder more people weren't hurt. >> reporter: finally the driver lost control. even now she can't shake the images. >> i saw him getting out of the car and arm was wherebied around the tree and there was blood all over his face. a shame that happened. >> reporter: the driver was borrowing the truck from somebody they still haven't figured out what motivated him to take such a deadly ride. at police headquarters eyewitness news. >> and police are still trying to find out who the driver was. superintendent joe harrison announced tonight that he's leaving the school district when his contract expires next year. that ends his 12-year run leading the district. his replacement will be in charge of the 26th largest
