community. police concerned with a fate of violent crime in charles village. >> unacceptable and atrocious that this activity is taking place in this city. >> reporter: just before 6:00 a.m. a man was approached by a robber. he gave up everything he had but the robber shot him in the leg any way. >> you know, you can't walk down the street without somebody trying to rob you. >> reporter: the shooting brings back bad memories just feet away flowers marked the spot where 23-year-old researcher was killed when a robber stabbed him. >> it's this economy. i mean, it's a violent world. >> reporter: about half a mile away from today's student a johns hopkins student was sexually assaulted right here on this ally. now the university is on alert. >> and -- >> on bike -- campus police are keeping launch as the

route 100. we're hearing eyewitness accounts of those frightening moments on the road. route 100 became a wild race course for one driver. police say before the man crashed, he was weaving through traffic violently rocking the steering wheel going more than 80 miles per hour. >> i didn't know if i was going to survive that or not. >> reporter: 23-year-old heather is pregnant. she said she was on her way home from a doctor's appointment when the driver's pickup truck almost slammed into the car she was riding in. >> i didn't know what was going to happen. >> reporter: state trooper tried to pull the driver over but police say that's when he became more erratic. >> at that point the truck accelerated to speeds between 90 and 100 miles per hour. he was passing vehicles on the left shoulder of the roadway.

>> police say some vehicles were very off the road to off the way. others were slamming on the brakes. with so much going on they're saying it's a wonder more people weren't hurt. >> reporter: finally the driver lost control. even now she can't shake the images. >> i saw him getting out of the car and arm was wherebied around the tree and there was blood all over his face. a shame that happened. >> reporter: the driver was borrowing the truck from somebody they still haven't figured out what motivated him to take such a deadly ride. at police headquarters eyewitness news. >> and police are still trying to find out who the driver was. superintendent joe harrison announced tonight that he's leaving the school district when his contract expires next year. that ends his 12-year run leading the district. his replacement will be in charge of the 26th largest

in central maryland right now. the forecast is coming right up. cameras catch a massive sinkhole opening up in the middle of california road. it happened near the university of california san diego campus. police closed roads and redirected traffic. they're trying to determine what caused the sinkhole, they think a ruptured storm drain could be to explain. virginia grandmother could spend up to 35 years behind bars for killing her 2-year-old granddaughter. she tossed the infant from a walkway. it was reportedly mad at her son-in-law for getting her daughter pregnant out of wedlock. the jury did not buy her insanity defense. disturbing new evidence about michael jackson's drug use. reports of wjz from los angeles. >> authorities found dozens of pill bottles and viles in michael jackson's match and after his death, including the

drug that killed him. >> did you locate on the floor a 20-milliliter boat f of prop follow. >> it took more than an hour for the investigator to help explain all the items taken from the home. prosecutors say jackson had prescriptions for a number of sedatives and painkillers. she claims she didn't document certain items including finding propofol in an iv bag until almost 2 years after jackson died. >> would you agree with me that you made substantial number mistakes in your investigation of this case. >> no. >> prosecutors called toxicologist to the stand who testified jackson's body was tested for numerous drugs. he told the jury the eatic lidocaine and propofol showed up in the system as well as in the syringe and parts of the iv found next to jackson's bed.

high demand and sale them at exbosh ant prices a form of drug speculation. >> i think if it's not criminal, it should be made a crime. >> she'll continue to do whatever it takes appealing to lawmakers to get pharmaceutical companies to come down on their prices. >> reporter: at the universe/of maryland i'm jessica, wjz eyewitness news. >> the good news, his son is expected to make a full recovery. a group of medical experts will soon recommend that man not get screened for prostate cancer cancer. women in their 40s they don't need mammograms, one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer. elementary school students are scrubbing toilets for detention in texas. instead of studying, kid were handed cleaning supplies in order to clean the bathrooms.

this year as they're in california, not a cloud -- nbc a couple of them up here in new york state, but that's about it. beautiful high pressure set over the region, that will dominate, weather conditions all weekend long and as it moves off the east coast, what will happen is those winds back more to the south and southwest that's where some warm air is sitting, temperatures have been in the 70s and 80s over the midwest, that's moving in our direction, nice warm up coming here on saturday, sunday, and on monday as well. now, quick look at the tropics. it's category 1 strong, look at it, nowhere accept way out in the atlantic, initially as it gets through the waters, it will die out. it may cause rain in places like scotland, ireland, yes, that's about 3 or 4, 5 days maybe. there may be something developing down here.
